Opera Software
Just to clarify a little. No, it's not spam, and yes, it is a free feature. HitsLink is one of our major partners. You'll notice at the bottom of just about every Opera.com webpage a bit of text that says "Web analytics powered by HitsLink". The new traffic analysis system available to individual bloggers is currently being tested out by a handful of MyOpera members, and will be widely available later.

musefreak: If you want to use HitsLink on your own (non-Opera) site, that's where the pricing you mentioned applies.

And what a nice feature! You get some great detail here and useful for tracking where traffic is coming from, which countries are popular and so on. My only slight negative comment is that it's replaced the old hit counter that showed on the profile. It would be nice to have both for those who have been around for ever. But yes, a good additional service from Opera.

Where the Smell Came From

Thanks, Tamil (rapid response ... !) I hadn't (I don't think). The link on my Preferences page went to http://www.hitslink.com/login.aspx (which didn't work), but I tried the link at the bottom of the Community page - http://os.hitslink.com/ - which did! All logged in and happy (wow ... so much information ... ! Now I can do posts on the search terms people used to find my blog ... !)

Thanks to everyone involved in this!

I'm also having a problem logging in.

I think the problem in my case is that the username cannot contain spaces. At least that is what it says if I log in at the top right corner. It will log in but when I try to confirm my account details that's the error it gives me. "No spaces in username"

We already know.

I asked HitsLink before the weekend, and they reported that there were some problems with usernames over a certain length, but the issue should be resolved. Could you retry now?

I've sent an inquiry to HitsLink about this one. I assume it is on the HitsLink page you get this problem?

I'm getting this problem when I try to log in. I can get to the stage where it asks me to confirm my account information, but then I cannot continue because my account id is more than 16 characters. And the page will not allow me to change the account id. It's a bit frustrating. :irked:

HitsLink is on to it. They promised me it would be fixed today (US time I assume).

Please do note that this is still a very limited test phase, and that we do expect som snags before we can launch it for everyone.

Is there no one worried that a BLOG site gives out so much identifying information? Everyone is so
happy and for what? There are some users that I have talked to that don't like this new feature,
myself including. Up until now I really didn't want people to know what city I am in...but oh well
it is done now......

To me it is TMI...(too much information) for a blog. So when I end up dead in some field
you guys will know why. Just kidding.... :left:

I thought we had told HitsLink that we didn't want to show who was visiting. I'll look into the matter, as we didn't really want this to happen, AND we have built a similiar system (but one which adheres to the users' invisiblity setting in prefs).
