Custom search Encoding field

Hello,

I think it's a pitty that the Encoding option of a custom search can not be changed from within Opera.
I you want to create a search which would work with international characters (like almost always) you have to:

  1. Create the search
  2. Close Opera
  3. Open/edit search.ini
  4. Find your custom search and make the following change :
Encoding=iso-8859-15
Replace by :
Encoding=utf-8

PS. If you create the search automatically with Create search… command, the Encoding is guessed from the web page. But sometimes, you have to create it from scratch, and in this case, an Encoding field would be welcome.

Good idea +1 (even though I won't use it).

Please put the charset field in the search engine edit screen.

It is very easy, the setting is already in the ini file, only the field is missing and this prevents the manual creation of unicode searches.

I'd think that usually it should be set automatically if you're creating a search from a web form ...

It still doesn't work in Opera 2.60.
Here is a quick test case :

  1. CTRL+F12 ; Search tab
  2. Add... ; Name: "utf test" , Keyword: "bug" , Address: "http://google.com/search?q=%s" ; OK ; OK
  3. F8 ; "bug tiếng Việt" (or any other no ASCII search) ; ENTER

You shall see "http://www.google.com/search?q=ti?ng+Vi?t" instead of "http://www.google.com/search?q=tiếng+Việt".

Good idea for sure, it took way too long to edit .ini files manually
