Icons for background browser windows (not tabs) in page bar
There have been long discussions about grouping of tabs in the past, with some interesting ideas.Until that gets possible, the method that is closest to tab grouping is to use multiple windows, each with a collection of pages that are somehow related. Main drawbacks: It's hard to tell by the items in a cluttered OS taskbar which is the window I need, how many browser windows there are in total, or if I'm still in the same window as before.
Basic idea:
- In addition to the list of tabs for the active window, the page bar could show a clickable item for each open window. This item could show title and favicon, and one tiny dot or stroke for each tab (with colors indicating new tabs etc).
In addition:
- Drag and drop tabs or adresses to these icons, to move/open in the specified background window
- Sticky titles make it easier to recognize a window. Usually, the title will be the one of the active page (in that window), until changed by the user. Windows opened from sessions could inherit the session title.
- Tooltips telling more about the window content.
This would answer many of the arguments for tab grouping. And unlike most tab grouping solutions, it is primarily a GUI enhancement, without changing much of the internal organisation of tabs and windows.
As usual, I imagine this to be an optional feature.

btw, I know this is possible with the windows panel
But honestly, I don't like having the panel open all the time!
