The problem with this forum is that a small number of members are discussing many issues. It's clear that they won't always agree, but I feel that some of the heat from previous threads is transferred to every new discussion, thus putting even more emphasis on the existing disagreements. Some posts from the past can be considered personal attacks, and we don't need that here, now do we? I'm not trying to look like an , but this is what i found somewhere on the internet, and it looks pretty useful:

Public Discussion Tips
* Make messages brief and to the point so they will be read.

* Before posting to a group discussion, read through previous messages to get an understanding of the tone and nature of the discussion.
* When building on others' ideas, summarize those ideas first when possible, so the original messages do not have to be revisited and the connections are apparent. This can be accomplished using partial quotes or paraphrasing.
* Contact the discussion moderator if problems arise.

"Netiquette"
Be Courteous: This includes refraining from posting multiple, identical messages ("flooding"); posting large images or files that can slow download time; and avoiding typing in all capital letters (considered "shouting").

Stick to the Topic: It can be aggravating opening a message expecting one topic (based on the subject line) and finding another topic being addressed in the message. Be sure to start a new discussion thread with a unique subject line if you want to address a new topic.

Be Kind to Others: Multiple points of view are often explored in online discussions. While it is fine to disagree with another's viewpoint, online forums are not the place for personal attacks (sometimes called "flaming"). Respecting the rights of others to share viewpoints openly allows multiple facets of a topic to be explored.

Remember the Human: Sometimes called the "golden rule" of netiquette, this rule reminds us that, though we are not communicating face-to-face in online discussions, we are communicating person to person, not computer to computer.

"Lets be adults", I don't think anybody takes that advice?

A simple topic about a game that is not just played by kids anymore because of the ageing fans....And they throw a fit and complain because of a topic they are not used to. The complainers end up offending somebody, even if its just a kid, we need to respect all users. These days you would probably not be able to tell who is an adult because there are "adults" that act like 12 year olds and there are kids who can carry on a conversation like a adult.

I think you posted this to the wrong thread. Unfortunately the code to move a post from one thread to another got broken years ago and hasn't been fixed since.

It has the looks of an old bug that has either has remained unfixed or a regression. My guess is that the function that calculates pages include all posts, including the deleted ones, while only the undeleted posts are actually displayed. If the number of deleted posts is high (in a long and/or contentious thread) the discrepancy may be a page or more.

Ok....how does the 'Great Wizards of Opera' intend to resolve this problem, or do I have to make a new thread as a PART 2 or Continued?

I lazily reported the problem here: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?id=11281592 (in parenthesis, that is the forum to report bugs and have some chance of having them fixed). If there is no quick fix soon, making a Mark 2 thread might be the best workaround. That thread is pretty long.

ok....Thanks Jax.....I'll give it about a week, & if the status hasn't changed, I'll do a Phoenix Thread to pick up...& when a solution is eventually found, the next issue will be if we can combine old & new, or keep the 2 parts locking the old in favor of the new.

i keep getting new reply notices for this thread but there are no new replys.

Another bug long unfixed. This thread is a magnet for spam and other deleteables, but even after the post has been ripped apart and destroyed the notification remains. This little annoyance can be felt in other parts of the Opera community as well.

Can we have an information note, please, on why threads are disappearing?

They don't seem disappearing - they're just hardly reachable. Having a direct link or so, you're able to get there...

I was able to access the thread I was after by going to my browsing history and clicking (poking actually) my last succesfull visit.

The main page is still not helping. I wonder what's going on.

String, if you have a friend having just posted there, the main forum page may be still useful.tss.

Maybe they're disappearing, maybe they're just hard to reach-- but right now there's half a dozen threads I can't see at all. Period. Two of them are mine, further-- if I want to make a thread disappear, all I have to do is reply in it. Poof, it's gone never to be seen again. In order to have any chance of seeing this one again, I will subscribe to it so I can see if the powers-that-be are any closer to fixing this.

Yesterday, I was able to get into a couple of them by clicking on friends, then clicking on their post count. This would show the threads posted in, then I could get into the thread that way. This morning, that doesn't work either.

Special note: Be aware that any "improvement" carries within it the seeds of its own destruction. I first came across this fact when reading of old sailing ships, the placement of the guns forward in one case made for a more stable shooting platform, but it came at the cost of making the vessel heavy by the bows. She later drove under in a storm, all that weight forward did her no good. The same thing is true of these apps. You can improve the thing right up to destruction. I wonder if they've achieved that here.

Oh, shit! This topic seems to have disappeared from "My Topics" I'll check it now... For just a case I'm going to add it to "FavOrites"...

The topic has shown up in both "My topics" and "Subscription" - but!..
.. But try it yourself --> the button "Add to favs" seems not working...

If they keep it up at this rate, before long we'll have so many work-arounds figured out that we'll be able to go in and fix it. I'm not sure they want that happening.

Now I have to ask. What in tarnation is an "ini page"? I haven't encountered one of those things since Windows 95, and certainly not on a website. Back in the day, if you knew how to tinker with the ini files and maybe write some halfway decent DOS code, you could fix nearly anything that went wrong in the early Windows offerings. Now, all that stuff has been replaced by the "registry", and if you make a little mistake in Windows Registry you've just turned your computer into a doorstop-- until you re-install Windows.

Now I couldn't see it in the lists (nor "subs." section, of course) again..!

Yes - that was my hope - to get some form of official feedback on what is happening.

By now these forums occupy a niche in our social lives. (maybe worth a separate thread that, unless it gets lost)

I was hoping they'd fix this. I was out from 3:30 Tuesday afternoon Chicago time, just got back a few minutes ago. Same old same old, maybe a little worse if anything.

Yesterday, I got curious about this so I ran a test. What made me curious: If I try to access the boards from the Opera browser, I got the alert that the website can't be found, try looking in Google or check your spelling. If I tried it in Firefox, I got in--- not that this is an accomplishment because it's apparent at once that once in, the D&D forum is still badly crippled.

So, the test: I'm always signed in when I come in here using the Opera browser. So, I logged off, then tried to access D&D, to see if it was browser-specific or if something else is going on. I got in, same as Firefox. So, I can't get into D&D or the Lounge, or certain others perhaps, if I'm logged in.

Now, when do the powers-that-be plan on fixing this thing, or do they plan on letting it limp along like this for a while?

SO it seems that attack has done significant damage to the Opera servers, no wonder I haven't been able to get a hold of any of the Dev team members. So if anyone gets a hold of this, my most likely idea is that they are working on it the best they can to repair it.

It was a bug that they fixed last week (on Halloween, to be precise), everything should be fine now ...
