This is meant as a central thread for all suggestions for improvements to the Opera synchronisation feature.I'll start

Some (a lot of people) have bookmarks that are not fit for public viewing, for whatever reason. This can cause embarrasing situations when you synch your home and work/school Opera. It would be helpfull if you could exempt folders and bookmarks from being synched.

How cool it would be to close Opera at work with 15 tabs open or so and then at home reopen it and continue the browsing?
How about RSS synchronization? That would be VERY useful, if you have 30+ news feeds and you read the messages at work then you don't want to waste time to go through messages that you've already read -- that's why I use Google Reader, even though is much slower and crapier than Opera RSS implementation (BTW, Opera needs a "open link from RSS" shortcut, or "view link", that's "v" key in Google Reader)

1. Display a "Synchronized Result" window to confirm any changes made after first synchronize process completed. Basically, show a popup window with a list of newly added bookmarks from both the server/browser during initial sync process (1st sync process upon startup & on demand). Preferably with dates & origin (come from server/current browser)
2. In the "Synchronized Result" window, allow user to decide which newly created bookmark should be remove/delete (from both browser & server). Display a checkbox for each newly created bookmark to allow user to remove selected bookmark. When done, press the OK button to delete all checked bookmarks & close the "Synchronized Result" window. All deleted bookmarks will be moved to trashcan (just like when we delete any bookmark in the bookmarks panel).
3. Add a "Search Duplicate" option in the "Synchronized Result" window to search for duplicate bookmarks of all newly added bookmarks. This option will help user to decide whether to remove the new bookmark or keep it. So, after pressed the "Search Duplicate" button, a number [no.] will be displayed beside any new bookmarks that got a duplicate, such as my.opera.com [2] if there are 2 copies of my.opera.com bookmarks with same URL were found (dates doesn't matter). On second thought, maybe Opera should do this automaticly?
I hope the opera developer will consider to add this extra step into the Synchronizer. That way, people won't get annoyed by keep getting duplicate bookmarks after each sync...

Great. Looking forward to that...
Anyway, how about the idea of showing a list of newly added bookmarks after the sycn?
This will let the user know what's changed to help they easier in keep track of the bookmarks...

+1
hopefully the devs also think of making synchronization 'session only' - or call it 'guest mode' - or 'temporary synch' -- or whatever but implement it!
the more items Opera can synch (optional) the more I like it

i would like to suggest for the synchronization icon to have its own status bar because the "synchronization disabled" status is always shown and im not really used to it, i think the icon is enough to understand the status.
and
i would like to suggest a way to synchronize rss feeds even just the opml only so that i might use the opera feed reader.

Here's the list:
Bookmarks
History
Cookies
Saved passwords
Saved form data
It doesn't do notes, the personal bar, or speed dial, of course...
I thought I would note that in hopes that Opera might feel like, having led the way to browser synchronization, it now needs to catch up!

Good point...
But come on here--you aren't helping one bit in pushing Opera to sync my passwords.

Mozilla Weave 0.2 was released not long ago, but while it is certainly in its infant stages, it already support many sync options. So question is, what will it take to make you guys start supporting more sync options too?!
Obviously this would mean an Opera update (unless the core is already ready for it and you can do some magic to make it start work with the servers...), but untill then perhaps some "official Link news" would be nice to keep the dark clouds and doubts away, know what I mean?
Thanks,
Your Link minion.

You can do this by removing synchronization icon from the Status Bar (why do you need status bar at all???) and adding it to a Main Bar.
At Status Bar "Sync Now" displays annoying text.
At Main Bar "Sync Now" DOES NOT display any text!
Status Bar: right click on a synchronization icon, then click "Remove From Toolbar".
Main Bar: right click, then click "Customize" -> Buttons -> Browser -> Sync Now.
This way you will ad Sync Now button to your Main Bar, and will see only:
1. Green buttn if it's enabled,
2. Grey button if it's disabled,
...and no text accompanying it.
Hope this will help until Opera developers make your wish come true.

1. Works with Opera 9.51
2. Works with Opera 9.52
3. Does NOT work with Opera 9.60 (Build 10447)
Opera Sync Now worked fine with previous version of Opera.
Then I installed Opera 9.60 on several machines (minut before that I did Sync Now and it worked fine) and Sync Now does not work on any of those machines (with Opera 9.60), but still works on machines with Opera 9.51 and Opera 9.52.
It seems Opera 9.60 can not synchronize.
I even tried with synchronizing only 4 (out of 6) categories for synchronizing (leaving out "Type History" and "Searches"), but still no succes with Opera 9.60.
Just to repeat: everything worked just fine with Opera 9.5x and still workes fine on other machines (same router, same switch, same everything).
Sync Now worked on machines that now have Opera 9.60 just a minute BEFORE I installed Opera 9.60 - Sync Now worked on those same machines when they used Opera 9.5x.
Windows XP, SP2, is on all those machines.
