8.65 won't start after trial to enter registration key

I ran Opera mobile 8.65 on my WM5 (on Cingular 8525). Trial period expired. Bought licence. Uninstalled Opera. Reinstalled from PC to 8525. When I start 8.65 it only gives pop-up saying to buy a licence at the opera website then closes, giving me no chance to get into the progam to enter reg key. Now I have a licence/key but cannot get into Opera to even enter it. I get frustrated with this behavior(similar issue last week with PCTools!) and now looks like I must pay the opera people just to contact them and ask why their software is road-blocking! Any ideas what I should be doing that I'm not? thanks, dave austerman

I have a similar issue except that I get nothing when I try and execute Opera Mobile. I had the beta version ( v8.85 ) installed which expired so I uninstalled, soft-reset and installed the latest 30day trial version I download today ( 10/3/2007 ). Now when I try to open Opera, I get nothing. I have tried executing the OperaLaunch.exe and OperWM.exe directly in File Explorer as well as the shortcut.

WM2003SE
Axim x50v
Installed in Built-In Storage
strange folder structure created, "Built-In Storage/Opera/../../Application Data"

I'm guessing the trial version sets an entry in the registry (or file that isn't obvious), that stays after the uninstall that is read by the subsequent installs? I doubt they want to let us know what that flag-switch(wherever it is) is called or it would be easy to get the new install to run again for free. Maybe I'm way off here. They tell me they are aware of this type of problem and are working on it. Sounds like they've had more than a few people with this issue. It's a huge issue. Thumbs way down on their implementation/transition delivery here. This should be a really simple process. They have my money and now I am dead in the water and just waiting. I wish us luck for a speedy resolution but I'm not holding my breath...

 I'd like to purchase licenses for both my PocketPC 2003 and WindowsMoblie 5 handhelds.
Since the software won't run even to give me a Device ID for the purchase, I guess I'm out of luck.
They must not want the money I'm willing to send them:down:

If I purchase a license today for 8.60, will I be automatically eligible for a free upgrade to 8.65 once that's finally fixed?

Hi,

Has anyone heard when a fix for these problems might be available.

The two times I have heard back from them they just explain that they are well aware of this exact problem and they are working on a fix that will be available "soon". I wrote them back again to ask them what "soon" means but have not heard back yet. Hopefully the forums will alert people about these problems and limit some purchases so it will keep the pressure on them to work fast!

Here is how I got around the problem of 8.65 trial having expired, and then 8.65 exiting before showing yout the registration info. This is on Cingular 8125:

1. remove software 8.65 (I then deleted the directory it was in also)
2. download 8.60
3. select register now on 8.60 and it will show you your device id (this is a unique opera id, different from your pocketpc id)
4. buy a licence from opera.com using that device id (I did this on a pc) and they email you a registration code
5. complete registration of 8.60 on the pocketpc
6. download and install 8.65 which upgrades 8.60 and uses the same registration code

Now you can use 8.65 again!

Thanks for the tip. I used this method, and it worked--but only if I install Opera 8.65 to the default (internal) location. If I try to install it to SD, it just flashes the Opera logo quickly then disappears, without the app launching afterwords.

Is anyone else having problems installing 8.65 to an SD card?

Thanks alistairs. I had the same problem. My "30 day" trial suddenly expired the second time I ran 8.65 and I couldn't run the app to get to the buy page or find my device ID. I tried the solution you suggested and it worked without any problems.

Spain

Hello

The last patch release for Windows Mobile Opera 8.65 does neither work on my Qtek9000 (WM5) with Spanish language. I have tried to install it first in the card storage, an then in the main memory, but it does run in any case. As someone says before, the program ends when the little splash screen with the Opera logo is displayed.

In my device, the folders created by the installer are "\Application Data\Opera\..." and "Archivos de prgrama\Opera\" ( "Tarjeta de almacenamiento\Application Data\Opera\..." and "Tarjeta de almacenamiento\Archivos de programa\Opera\" when I install the program in the storage card"). The paths in the file opera.ini seem to b correct: they are "\Application Data\Opera\..." in any case.

I bought and registered the version 8.6 in 2006 and it works very well in my device. I also have tried 8.56 beta without problems, even using it in the storage card. But the version 8.65 does not work although I registered 8.6 before. It is more likely that the problem is caused by the non-English ROM, not by the registration code, as it is commented in other threads.

Regards.

I have installed 8.65 after I unistalled previous version (8.6). I have not made special clean as deleting register entries.
After I have verified that ver. 8.65 does not work, I have installed 8.6 again and it works.

I also had the same issue.. I ran 8.65beta until it expired. I installed 8.65 (release), and no joy. Just the popup saying to buy a licence and no way to register.

I uninstalled 8.65, installed 8.60 and said I wanted to register. Did so, uninstalled 8.60, reinstalled 8.65, and it worked.

All installs were done to main memory. (SD card used exclusively for video.)

All my 8.65beta bookmarks were still there, so this is a good workaround.

The same problem with hx4700 - Opera 8.65 doesn't work elsewhere than on SD card even it was excellent on iPAQ Filestore as 8.65 beta

Solution - version 8.60

On Smartphone (Qtek 8010) Opera 8.65 works much worse than 8.65 beta - freezes and is slower

Can anybody from Opera Software solve it? This is a very negative effect in the time you want people to purchase something that was free and working much better !!!

Ok, this is getting very frustrating for a PAID product. I need to reinstall 8.65B, but can't. I'm trying to find 8.60 so I can go that route, which I shouldn't have to do, but I can't find where to d/l. Can anyone help? Thanx.

Thank you.
I D/L'd 8.60, and it ran but it wouldn't accept my registration code. I'm using the same device. I still tried to upgrade to the 8.65b, and still getting the "expired" message. I'm running this on a Moto Q, and the 8.60 version I used was opera_wmsp_800.msi.
