How To Remove ones name from someones 'Friends'-list?

How can one remove ones name from someones 'Friends'-list, if one doesn't want to be there at all? (Because, for instance, for political, ideological or just personal reasons.) In my view Friendship is something mutual, made in accordance with one another. Not a One-Way-Traffic.

Other than asking them to remove you, I don't think it can be done.

Thanks for thinking. I already asked to remove my name but the individuals involved did honour my request. Wich signifies that they give me the two fingers :headbang: I presume.
Ofcourse MyOpera's webmasters and/or moderators can change the way of incorporating ones name.. (like asking permission before) but are they willing to do so?

They were kicking that idea around for a while. I don't think it's a dead issue, I'm sure the ladies here on Opera would feel a little better if a friend confirmation thingy were installed.

The system should also include "Why this person wants to be your friend"...that would be nice..I think.

I see that I have 80 people who list me as friends, including several I've banned before they added me. (After they asked to come back they added me.) A number of other people added me just because I was helpful, even if it was just reading my posts here. The latter, I don't know from Adam (as the saying goes), but I don't mind - it's actually kind of flattering.

So personally, I don't see the issue here. Of course they're not really my friends, I know who my real friends are and I'm sure they do to.

I've wanted this feature ever since i got added by somebody whose sole blog entry was links to hardcore pornography. At least Blocking somebody should remove you from their list.

Note that links to porn can get the poster banned, you could just tell one of the mods who it was ...

i would definitely prefer that someone gets my permission b4 being able to add me to their list, as i am on SEVERAL people's pages, that are new within the last couple of days and only have 1 or 2 other people on their friends list, which makes me believe that they are adding me JUST bcuz they like the number of ppl i have on my friends list. but, even though i have a few pages of friends on my friends list, that is because MOST if not all of them were asked if i could add them, and some, though they have not answered that question, have told me that they do not mind me adding them to my list, but that they would prefer to wait until they get to know me more, before adding me to their list.

i think this should be done with everyone.

ASK THE PERSON BEFORE YOU ADD THEM, DON'T JUST ADD SOMEONE BECAUSE YOU LIKE THEIR NAME, OR YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW SOMEONE THAT KNOWS SOMEONE ELSE, THAT KNOWS THAT PERSON. THAT IS NOT RIGHT, AND I PERSONALLY DO NOT LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there are a lot of us that agree with that...i have friends on my list, that though they have not added me, i have at least asked for their permission to add them, or at least let them know that i was adding them b4 i did so, so that they knew who it was that was adding then....and also only add those that i talk to in posts most often.

sry, but when ppl start adding me as a RANDOM add, it pisses me off

Well this message here will turn one year soon. What should I get it for birthday?

It's still not implemented and I still get added to peoples friend list even I never ever talked to them.

"Friend" is a VERY STRONG word for me, and I feel to be connected to a person I don't know what this one will blog about.

What if this person writes postings which differ completely from my opinion? For example a person who supports americas war strategies? I don't want somebody to read there how cool it is to blow up some "terrorists", then turn over to this users friend page and finding ME!

So please I need 3 things:
- A way to see who put me on their friend list (just in case I missed a message s.o. added me or the message got lost)
- A way to remove myself from their friend lists if I want that
- A way to decide on new requests if I want to be on their friend list.

Please help!

Best,
Daniel

You can see who's added you by opening your own Friends list, and clicking on the link near the top that says 'Friendly People'.

Only ONE person can place other Opera members on ones Frieds-list: the person her/himself. No one else. The real problem is not how to put another Opera member ON a list - but how to REMOVE YOURSELF FROM ones Friends list. That problem is still not solved after 1 year. And I still do'nt want to be on the list of a downright idiot, or a nationalistic US war-veteran, or a Born-Again-Christian evangelist, or a pro-live (sic) activist, or a chick-litter. Is that clear..my dear theoddbod? Try your teeth on that one..

You completely misunderstood theoddbod. He did understand the problem absolutely. He answered my question #1 very good. I want to see who added me to his friend list. That's the way it works and that's fine.
Now that i know who added me, we need the info how to get off there if I don't want to be there.
This thing can't come from theoddbod, but from the myopera devs which abandoned this thread completely it seems.

Thursday, 23. October 2008, 17:03:41

All i can do is point out that they said they intend to add friend confirmation to My Opera. You're not the only one on the list of people you don't want to be associated with, eitaps.
There is supposedly a pretty major site upgrade/redesign coming soon...whatever soon means. There's not much the devs can do in this thread except give a status report.

So sorry for misunderstanding!

Thursday, 20. November 2008, 21:48:35

Isn't there an option to delete them from your list via their Info page?

If not, try adapting this link :

There you can remove people which YOU once added to YOUR OWN friendlist.

But this thread is about how to remove MYSELF from OTHER ONES friend list.
We now have a completely new redesigned opera community. Guess what's still missing?

Removal of the other person from your own list shouldn't be hard ...

If I wanted to remove you as a friend, the link is http://my.opera.com/SqueakeyCat/about/addfriend.pl?rm=y so all I need to do is replace your username with theirs and I should be able to remove them.

Sure, it's not hard. It's even in the GUI now.
Log in, go to your "Friends" page, go to "Edit Friends" and click "remove".

But that's not what this thread is about!
It's the other way round!

Imagine I would add YOU as MY friend. I can do that without any problem, without you being able to do anything against that.
Then try to get from MY friend list again. How can you do that?

If it bothered me, I suppose I could always ban you. :left:

No, I don't ban people I don't like. And I don't pay attention to who adds me as a friend, many people see me post a helpful comment and add me as a friend.

Hmm ... seems they dropped the "Friendly people" link, I can't get a list of people who have me as a friend any more. I know it's pretty long though ...

For me the link is still there, on my own friends page when I'm logged in.
And banning me would not remove you from my Friends Page I think.

oh.
It seems Fred now FINALLY wanted to answer on this post but decided to delete it again immediately... Got a mail from the watch system with this content:

---------------------------------------
fred has made a post to a forum topic you are subscribed to.

An excerpt from the post:
Hi. We are aware that this is one of the most requested features on My Opera and we will add a funct...
---------------------------------------

Fred, please update the status of that feature. It's not sooo much about "I want it now", but we need official statements. So for example "it's still on our task list, but was harder to implement as we thought" or "we plan to implement it next summer" or such things...

It's the lack of any information that wears me down...

Pretty pretty please...

Which two fingers were those? There is a common insult in England that utilises two fingers. Most non-English don't realise what it means.

It is sometimes referred to as a 'Harvey Smith'.
