Report PM (Private Message) spam here

Please report Private Message spammers in this thread.

Before reporting PM spam, read this carefully:
  • This thread is only to be used to report private message spam (not spam in blogs, forums, etc.)
  • Only report the spammer's username (preferably with a link to the spammer's about page - my.opera.com/USERNAME/about/), and we will look into it
  • Make sure that the user hasn't already been reported by someone else before posting. It is only necessary to report spam from a user once
  • Do not use this thread to post comments that are not actual spam reports

I got a notification from <noreply@opera.com> that I'd gotten a private message from someone called "myOperaGifts". But when I checked my messages inbox, there was nothing there. I guess the "myOperaGifts" spammer was already deleted, and that deleted all messages sent by him, too? Or did I just walk right into a phishing email?

Since you don't say that you needed to login, I can't guess ... but I'd probably think it was the message had been removed.

I didn't need to login. Apparently, I was already logged in at My Opera. I just wondered if this was just another spamming account by the same spammer mentioned by AHinMaine, "OperaGifts". It certainly sounds the same: "myOperaGifts". If it was already banned and the spam messages already deleted, I guess there's no problem. smile

I got this a few minutes ago from "OperaBot". It looked legit at first glance, but the TinyURL link gave it away. Well, that and the "Member since January 2008" part on the profile. bigsmile

I didn't copy the path to the "CLICK HERE" link to protect the innocent.

Me too... Is there any way you can issue a warning? Not everyone reads the forums or is as aware of security issues. It's designed well enough to make people click through the link.

People, please read the first post. There is no need to report the same spammer more than once. Posting the link to the spammer's about page alone is also sufficient. There is no need to post a sample spam message.

And maybe Opera should start considering denying mass PM for users who has under 100 posts.

Oops, sorry, didn't notice it was reported already on this page.

They seem to be implying that they're connected with Opera somehow ("our Revolution", offering an "UNRELEASED VERSION" of Opera, and the automated message thing). Lame.

Some people seem to be more involved with the blogs and might never reach 100 posts in the forums ... I mean, you've been a member for 2 years and only have 3 posts in the forum!

Of course, your basic phishing scheme of sorts - though they may or may not ask for personal information.

As far as an "unreleased version" of Opera, sounds like the Russians - they have a hacked version of Opera Mini.

I've gotten two mails from: noreply@opera.com [Opera Community] New Private Message , stating:

Opera Community Personal Message Notifier

You have just received a new personal message from OperasGifts.
If you are logged in, go to http://my.opera.com/Diver/messages/?folder=0&startidx=0&mid=3061743#msgtitle
to read it.

When I click the link, I land in the message box, but no messages are waiting for me. Is this some kind of spam?

Greetings,

diver

Let's say it used to be. "OperasGifts" was a spammer, we deleted his PMs, but not before the system sent you a message that you'd received them. He was discussed just a few messages above your post.
