opera doesn't save nzb files?

xp pro sp2 fully updated
opera 9.5 9716

Opera doesn't save nzb files but in stead saves them as fcgi files.
Anyway to correct that?

First thin I think is try updating to the latest weekly 9721.

I am not initiated in the world of newsgroups but I think nzb are part of that world. What is supposed to happens when opening an nzb file? Is it mandatory to open a newsgroups client? Which one do you prefer?
Opera always the latest snapshot (default), Comodo Internet Security 2012 Windows 7 SP1 (default), Vista 32 SP2 and XP SP3 triple boot......AMD Phenom II , 4 GB RAM, MSI 850G-E53

When Opera renames a file like that, it does not change the content. The server you downloaded the file from listed a file type that Opera thinks should have an extension of ncgi (though I'm not certain what that would be). You should be able to fix it easily enough ...

It is not a problem with nzb files only - it's been a known bug since a few months ago. Basically - there are situations where dynamically served content will be saved as the "filename" from the original URI. For example - newzbin generated .NZB files are saved as "default.htm". I hope that will go away soon.

Unless I hear Opera solved the problem I don't want to install the next weekly.
I like my current settings.

@EricJH
Yes nzb's are for newsgroups, opera should open them with my newsclient Grabit.
Now I can only save them as default.cfgi files.

Yes there is indeed a workaround for this bug, but I use nzb's daily, and its quite annoying to save the *.fcgi file as *.nzb file everytime. Rather than: click "create nzb" -> open (with newsleecher).

And this bug has been around since the first alpha release.

Ah, then .fcgi must be the extension on a redirector. Not knowing the site you were talking about I couldn't say ...

The site I was talking about is binsearch (according to adbrite over 140,000 Unique users per day), but the bug is not site specific. All the big nzb sites have this problem, altough the symptoms differ.

If there is a nzb search site that somehow isn't troubled by this bug, I would love to hear it.

Interesting ... I tried a couple and the result was reported as having a file type of "temporary", whatever that means. sad

I have also noticed this problem and am certain it is not specific to NZB files. The cause is Opera ignoring the filename sent in the Content-Disposition attribute if the filename value is not surrounded by quotes. This is as much the server's fault as it is Opera's because AFAIK filenames are supposed to be sent as quoted strings.

Edit: Arrrgh, my first post and it's a known bug - [BUG 280678] Files are often saved with the incorrect file extension

I have the same problem on americanexpress.com when downloading my account activity. It wants to save the CSV file as "action" with no extension. I hope they fix this bug. It is really a hassle, but Opera always seem to get the big bugs out of the way when it comes time to release a beta.

No, at least for the latest Windows weekly, the problem is still there. The bug they're referring to is an older and slightly different one, if I remember it correctly.

By Junyor

@oscardt: Yes, the extension bug is fixed. There's still a problem with Content-Disposition, though, which could be causing the problem you're seeing.

woohooo!!! jester yes thank you team opera!

They finally fixed it in the latest weekly (build 9815), well, atleast my nzb problems.

If you experience other download problems you should report those on the blog, or file a Bug report.
