Workaround that allows me to log into my bank?
Hello all:I just got a new 0 dB, silent computer and have it running XP on a 8 GB solid strate drive. I thought I'd go for a super lean install, get rid of IE, OE and much XP baggage. So I went looking for a fast, lean browser - found Opera and installed it last night. I played with it for several hours, and am very impressed. Lots of very practical features, fast, and seemingly very little excess. It appears to be right up my alley.
However, it hangs after entering the userid/pw and pressing 'Login' on my online bank site https://webbroker.tdwaterhouse.ca/ . I found a 2+ year old post in this forum about someone else having trouble with tdwaterhouse - http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=90429 .
I am happy to use a kludgy workaround if this is my only frequented site that doesn't work with Opera, but I do not understand the posted workaround:
Possible workaround: When the login fails look at the error message, copy the given address by clicking-and-dragging to select it, paste it in Opera and replace LogOnValidate with StartPage. Does that work? I do not have a Tools-Advanced-Javascirpt Console option, just a 'Java Console' and an 'Error Console'. (version 9.25, build 8827)
I'm really hoping that the suggestion is not to use IE on the TDWaterhouse site alone, as my initial attraction to Opera is to have a very lean, fast install of XP and my common web apps. I would like it if I could get away without installing IE and OE at all.
Thank you for any help getting TDWaterhouse working with Opera for me.

Banking sites are notorious for this sort of problem...
Before anything else have you tried making Opera identify itself as something other than Opera? A good 80% of the time that solves a lot of problems.
Go to your login page, and before anything else...
Press F12>Edit site preferences...>Network. In the Browser Identification drop-down, choose "Identify as Internet Explorer". Before you close the dialog, go to the Cookies tab and click "Accept cookies", and on the Scripting tab, make sure that at least "Enable javascript" is checked.
Click OK and see if you can log on.
If not hit F12 again and try "Mask as Internet Explorer".
If you still can't log on try "Identify as Firefox" and so forth.
If it still comes up no dice, then, well, you'll need help from someone more competent than me:right:
Good luck!

I just tried all of those options, and no dice - it still hangs after I press Login. Any other things to try?
Also I have an off-topic question about Opera - is there a way to tile 2 (or more) tabs in one user window? Lets say I wanted to read your post on one side, while trying the things you said in the other side on my bank window?
Thanks.

Just to add to BPM's post, there is also a button for tiling windows. It's natively present on the "Main bar", but you can of course drag it anywhere you'd like (I put it on the tab bar). Also I have an off-topic question about Opera - is there a way to tile 2 (or more) tabs in one user window?
Tools>Appearance>Buttons>Browser -- drag and drop the "Tile" button (there's also a "Cascade" button)

Yep!Lots to explore.
As for your bank site, sorry We're now officially over my level of competence, but I'm sure others will hop in with other ideas/cures. The only other tip I'd have for the moment: Don't hesitate to write to the site's webmaster. They often aren't aware of problems like this because they never bothered to test in Opera, but are willing to fix them once it has been brought to their attention.

It took 3 or 4 retries, and a few minutes before it seemed to kick in ??? - but it works now! Thanks a lot!
What I did:
1. Saved your file fix-tdwaterhouse_ca.js to c:\TooSteep\Opera\UserJS on my local HDD
2. Edited Tools->Preferenced->Advanced->Content->JavaScript Options... to include c:\TooSteep\Opera\UserJS under 'User JavaScript Files'. (Enable JavaScript is turned on.)
3. Went to your special preferences edit link and turned on : 'User JavaScript on HTTPS'
(I have a question about this? Does this JavaScript get executed with every site I visit? If not, how does it know to run it just when I am on the tdwaterhouse site? Thanks.)
Saved everything, exited, restarted and did a logon to tdwaterhouse.ca again.
Thanks again.

// ==UserScript== // @include https://*.tdwaterhouse.ca/* // ==/UserScript==That means run on any page that starts with https:// and contains .tdwaterhouse.ca/
It shouldn't take multiple attempts. It should just work the first time.
