Microsoft Windows
Opera Internet Browser has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
The only option offered is a button marked "Close Program". When you hit that it obviously closes the program but there is not a solution offered.
I'm running Opera 9.25 build 8827 on Vista, although I also had this problem with the previous version of opera and it also happens on my laptop running Windows XP.

Can you answer the last question in my previous post?
Delete your cache and cookies (Tools > Delete private data) and restart Opera -- that might help.
Tools > Advanced > Plug-ins contains the list of your installed plug-ins, along with what file types they handle. it also states the name of the plug-in dll and where it is located on your hard drive.
Make sure you have the necessary plug-ins installed there. Also check if you have any occurrences of the same dll referenced from two different paths. If you do, delete the files associated with the extra copies from Opera's profile directory. Also remove non-Opera paths from opera:config#UserPrefs|PluginPath. Restart Opera after these changes.
If none of this helps, try to reset your Opera profile.

The path you requested is:
C:\Users\Hugh\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\profile\
I've deleted the cache and cookies and took a look at the plug-ins. I did find two paths to a flash plug-in:
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll
C:\Program Files\Opera\Program\Plugins\NPSWF32.dll
It wasn't clear to me what to do about that as the files are in the Opera\program\plugin folder and not the Opera\profile folder.
I haven't tried resetting the profile yet, as so far this morning Opera has been stable.

Can't the developers do something about it?

Either way, Opera was pretty good until this second day, Opera has been completely unreliable. Googlemaps don't load when I ask for directions, Logging into sites doesn't work, "remember me" doesn't remember me; nearly all interactive sites are unresponsive in some way.
Before sgunhouse can ask, I am using Firefox to access this site right now.
I saw Kit say that I should delete all my cache and cookies. I don't want to loose my cookies to the webpages that automatically log me in. To me, that's like losing my address book.

So... back up (copy) the cookies4.dat file to a safe folder somewhere outside Opera, then you can have your way with the cookies, as Kit suggested back in early 2008. If deleting some or all of them has no effect, you can always copy back the saved cookies4.dat file to its original location with no harm done. (Note: copying such Opera files out and back in is best done with Opera switched off to avoid surprises.)I'm in the same boat ... I saw Kit say that I should delete all my cache and cookies. I'm not tech-savvy enough to comprehend the advice you offered. Where is this cookies4.dat file? Is this different than wiping cookies through "internet options"?
I'll start fishing, thanks for responding!
I looked in the Opera folder and did a "search programs and files."
Thanks for chiming in!
I'm feeling pretty stupid, here.
So open Opera?
Blackbird said "copying such Opera files out and back in is best done with Opera switched off to avoid surprises."
I am assuming Help is the help I get by clicking the upper left, red box and clicking about Opera.
Sorry, I looked through that document and I don't see anything that says "cookies."

That's right. Or you can just type opera:about on the address field.

As i said, it will only show you the path for Opera's profile folder where you will find cookies4.dat. You'll have to use Windows Explorer or a similar program to go there and find the file.

Uh, how on earth was I supposed to get know this?
Right: I copy this and paste it in...My Pictures.
Then I delete it from C:\Users\Winovations\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera
Then I restart Opera and Opera should work?
If not, I can cut it from My Pictures and put it back.
The best thing to do is to first test with an new clean install of Opera to see if the problem persists.
Btw, Google Maps works fine here.

I sent this to you via email:
Nope. Things are worse.
Closed all windows. Rebooted computer.
I opened Opera.
I opened Google maps.
Before: I put in Serralunga d'Alba, Italy and it loaded. I ask for directions to Erbusco and hit enter, I get a never-ending "loading."
Now: I put in Serralunga d'Alba, Italy and I get the never-ending "loading."

Uninstall, reinstall didn't resolve issues with google maps.

I am about ready to give a big thumbs-down to opera and move on. It worked so well for a few hours. Damn.

Uh oh, you've run afoul of the forum's post timer. Each time you try to repost into the same thread before the timer has expired, it doubles the time interval. Post in another thread - say, in the Testing forum - before trying to reply here, or it will likely double it again.
