Opera Mini always ask for permission to coneect on Blackjack II Cingular Network
Generally I like the Opera Mini 4 Browser - however it has one very frustrating problem on my Samsung Blackjack II on Cingular Network. It asks for permission to use http for communication on every web page access.
It would be OK if it was once per session (or never) - but every new page is driving me crazy.
Anyway to work around this?

You get used to it. It's just another keypress.
Seriously, check out howardforums.com or mobiledia.com ( they're sites dedicated to mobile phones, smartphones and pda's.)
It used to be a simple matter of changing the permissions in JAVA settings from 'always ask' to 'never ask' or 'ask once per app.' The carriers got rid of the last two options by masking them when the phone was "branded". Easy enough to change with a pc, a data cable, and software to modify the phones programming. From what I understand, now you have to go into the JAVA program itself and change it- which voids the warranty.
*Feel free, guys, to correct any inaccuracies in my statements here.*

I'm confused. I've been told that permissions are handled by the JVM. Maybe I misunderstood the answer. I'll try to find the thread.
207952 is the thread id.
IIRC, as with the BJ, the BJ II too uses the Jblend KVM, with its really restrictive scurity model.
Solution: Trash Jblend. Install and use Jbed instead.

If you purchased your phone from Cingular, you are probably accessing OM with the Intent Midlet Manager.
If so, in the Midlet Manager, before tapping on the Opera logo to start the browser, tap and hold the logo to get a pop-up list of options. Slide down to "Security." Be certain you have "Session" checked wherever possible.
Also be certain you have a socket connection selected in your settings.
They are no longer called Cingular, it's been AT&T for about a year now. Also, AT&T stopped using the Intent Midlet Manager because the company who made it closed up shop and went out of business. They've switching to using Esmertec's product.
for Esmertec JBed, there is a patch that can be ran on a certain file that will disable the net access warning message.

It does - after all, Opera Mobile is a full-fledged browser directly accessing Web resources; Opera Mini, on the other hand, uses a transcoding server.

scrap opera mini and go to opera mobile... works great on my BJII
This is some of the worst advice I have ever seen given on this forum.![]()
Still better than advising going for a competing browser

Thanks for the link but I don't think I'm reading this correctly because it's specific to a certain version of Jbed. More specifically, I was looking at this section:
===
Skipping the Connection Permission Prompt (Only applies to JBed)
One of the only negatives of using Jbed, over Jeodek, used to be that any time an application wanted to access to the Internet, Jbed would ask twice if you want to allow the action. It will also forget this permission next time you ran the application, so you would have to give permission every time you ran a Midlet that tried to access the Internet. Thanks to forum user g-funkster, a work around for this annoyance has been found!
1.) Copy the file \windows\appdb\selector.utf to your PC (make sure backup this file first in case something goes wrong!)
2.) Remove read-only attribute
3.) Open the file with a hex editor, and find the line
Code:
domain=untrusted, \
Replace the text untrusted with the text tckmax. Add space characters between the x (in tckmax) and the comma (otherwise connection warnings or a nullpointerexception error may occur). The above line may appear multiple times in the "selector.utf" file, each corresponds to a different Java Midlet you have installed in JBed.
If hex editing is too blackhat for you, g-funkster has created a desktop application that can do this for you automatically! You can find it here.

For the Samsung Blackjack II Esmertec JBed, I don't have that file as I look on the file system using Total Commander. Am I looking in the right direction?

Are you sure you
1. looked into \Windows\appdb on your phone?
2. configured Total Commander (if you meant the desktop WinCE filesystem plug-in usable over ActiveSync) to display hidden files?

I think so:
1. I don't have an AppDB directory under Windows. It just goes from Accessories, ActiveSync, AppMgr, Favorites, etc.
2. Total Commander shows hidden files by default. I also searched for that selector file and no dice.
I'm thinking that that note applies only to the other version of Jbed and not the embedded JBed that comes with the BJII.

OIC. Try looking into \Program Files to see if there's a Jbed or an Esmertec Jbed directory in there. If there is, it must contain an appdb directory.

Sorry, I'm new at this. Do I need to uninstall the JBlend, install the Esmertec Jbed and then Opera Mini for this to work?
Friday, 22. February 2008, 01:52:55
1. Went to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361526
and downloaded the Cloudyfa_EsmertecJbed.cab listed there to my BJII.
2. Went to mini.opera.com and downloaded Opera Mini 4 again. The install looked weird since it kept saying 'Error' at the top but it just kept going.
3. Opera Mini 4 started right up and using sockets, I've finally gotten rid of that HTTP prompt.
Nice!

I found the latest Esmertec Java here:
http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthread.php?t=226832
1. Uninstall previous Esmertec Java
2. Uninstalled Opera Mini 4
3. Installed new Esmertec Java
4. Installed Opera Mini 4
Seems to work smoother.
