Opera's Default Paths

hi
i'm using opera 9.5 beta 1 build 9903

i just installed it, but i got some issues.
if you gop to help -> about opera, the programm shows you its default paths.

its showing me:
Preferences
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\msa\Anwendungsdaten\Opera\Opera\profile\opera6.ini

and

Cache
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\msa\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\Opera\Opera\profile\cache4

so it chose the default C-directory for it, but on the installation before, these files were in my opera-installation-folder, not in that default-folder on C...

is there a way to change that? especially the cache-folder, i dont want that to be on C:.

You can change these paths under 'User Prefs' in the Preferences editor opera:config ...

But why did you post that under "Opera's websites: Feedback, questions and discussions", that's definitely the wrong forum.

Please get it moved to where it belongs...

Moved ... but as far as the paths he'll need to force it back into single-user mode like his original was. Find the file OperaDef6.ini in the program folder, with Opera closed find the line "Multi User=1" and change it to "Multi User=0", that's the only way to get Preferences onto a non-system drive.

(There may be a hyphen in that line, it may read "Multi-user=1" ... just search for "Multi" and you'll find it.)

Yes, the cache and other files can be forced to other directories in opera:config, but if he wants Preferences (opera6.ini) to be on D: then switching back to single-user is the way to go.

thanks a lot, now everything profile-related under "paths" is now set to the opera-installation-folder, thats what i wanted.

It's strange to me - why beta installs itself as multi-user version by default, when in most cases it's used (or rather tested) just by one (most advanced) user on an exact computer?

I was surprized seeing this happens even if stable Opera is installed with single-user profile.

There should be at least an option to choose at install time.

Try classic installer.

So ... that means ... oh, classic installer of this:

http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?ver=9.50b&platform=windows

Recently I was using directly the latest snapshots for install.

OK, thank You!
(seems like that classic installer is the best)

One more thing - as I can see, there's no option to "Choose" a cache directory from there:

So, how I can change it to whatever I want?
(not just between defaults in single-multi user modes?)

http://www.opera.com/support/usingopera/operaini/

http://www.opera.com/support/usingopera/operaini/#userprefs - here we can find:

"Entry:-------------------Description:---------------------------------------------------------------------Default (if available):----Configure from UI:

Cache Directory4------Full path to cache directory. Empty string = use default cache4.dat------""---------------------------------N/A"

Well, back to Opera6.ini or what?

But there's no setting for cache directory!

Great.
After some googling I managed to change cache directory in FF from its UI & it seems like ... Internet Explorer (!) has the simpliest method for user to choose that directory!

Yes, I know where I can check what my Opera cache directory is, I even can write there something different, like "I hate IE!", but this doesn't affect the REAL cache directory, cos:

or to "set" it any other way!
(see "Choose" button above & below that "setting" - it is absent near "cache" line!)

New setting just doesn't "apply" & directory remains the same instead!

Close Opera, open opera6.ini, under [User Prefs] add Cache Directory4=C:\Path\To\Cache

OK, seems like it works at last, in both 9.27 & 9.50, thank You.
(isn't it too complex anyway?)

Sorry, where?

I didn't find anything like this in "opera:config" & as I've found in:

http://www.opera.com/support/usingopera/operaini/#userprefs

this setting can't be changed from UI.

Oh, this is one more discovery for me!

(seems like they never end)

Opera needs "ask Tamil" embedded feature in "help" menu!
