Opera Mini 4.1 final

First of all we would, again, like to thank all of you who helped us beta testing Opera Mini 4.1. You provided us with a lot of good feedback, and we are now ready to give you the full 4.1 version!

There are no big differences from the beta, but there are a lot of things that have happened behind the surface:
  • We have fixed a lot of bugs
  • Minor changes to saving pages
  • Several adjustments to auto-complete address input and upload/download
  • BlackBerry devices with old firmware now get Opera Mini 4.1 without JSR-75.

We all hope you enjoy the final version of Opera Mini 4.1!

Regards,
The Opera Mini team

The first option (link) on mobile download page should be for current (latest) release: 'Download Opera Mini'
There's propably still a link for Opera Mini 3 as well if you scroll down the page. I'm just too busy to test OM4.1, so no time to check. Link for OM3 is there because number of people asked it after OM4.0 was released.

Great  Pages I saved using OM4.1beta is now available as well. And I can edit the titles of saved pages as well :D

Edit: This improved 'Saved Pages' is absolutely my favorite feature in OM4.1. Now I can save another set of shortcuts. I only wish it could be before history section on start page. I have saved a several personal link lists into 'Saved Pages', which are now easy and quick to use. Almost like having a personal home page  Just one fast click away from OM's start page.

Links to the signed v.'s aren't apparent. It wants me to d/l the unsigned v. in us.english. I found the verisign v.,though. Later I'll try to get the multi-signed v. installed. That wouldn't work in beta.

I also believe the 'flickering bug' is also fixed  I just tested it at onemanga.com, and now the cache is automatically cleared after opening a few images. So, no more running out heap (RAM) memory after heavy browsing.

Are you downloading with the default browser or Opera Mobile?

Tuesday, 13. May 2008, 09:38:16

With Mini.

I went to mini.opera.com again and this time around when trying to download the new version, it downloads 4.01, which I assume is 4.1 really...

Tuesday, 13. May 2008, 09:42:00

Uh forgot to say thanks. Thank you OM

I just tried going to mini.opera.com with the phones wap browser as well as the default web browser on our Nokia E65 and it got the correct download page in both cases, where the first link is to Opera Mini 4.1.

EDIT: Ok, it works now. Good. Yes, some phones will report "4"."1" as "4.01".

WooHoo! The beta wouldn't save pages or images on my Samsung U600 but the final release just works! Opera Mini is one of the best things ever. Great work and thanks to all the developers.

It actually seems slightly quicker as well, but I'm still seeing HTML code in place of page elements on several sites.

Hmm.. I might be wrong (haven't used the beta for quite some time now), but isn't it new that entering several words in the address bar defaults to a google/Yandax search?

I feel the same while 'loading'. See no betterment in 'connecting' though.

I think the google search was there already on beta. And you have to use middle soft key (right&down) to select the search. Just 'Go to' will try to find an URL. But editing the saved pages is definately new and very welcome feature.

Nevertheless, what did I told you number of times? Beta versions are for introducing new features and testing them by active nerds (like me). Final version is directed to large audience. Not much new but bugs found during beta stage should be fixed. And it certainly looks good

Nevermind. Google is my 2nd. best friend!

@ jbpseudo: Yes, connecting time seems about the same, maybe a smidgen quicker. I think it's operator related.

If you enter several words with space between, and press enter, it will automatically search in Google.

Oh, you are right  But it does not work every time. You have to check that "Search 'something something' " is selected before hitting the middle soft key.

I think you can switch from mobile to web and search again, without typing search terms.

@Knutaj and Serola: Thanks. :smile:
EDIT:
At this rate, how long before Opera Software takes over Micro$oft and runs it properly? :D

Thanks for making direct address input work on my phone (Moto KRZR K3)! In the beta version, I could only enter numbers, now it works perfectly well!

If in the next update Moto users would get access to the signed version with file download/upload, that would be tremendous! I understood from earlier discussions in this forum that this would involve a lengthy process at OM developer's side, so I am patient...

Thanks again - great update!

@ ManneS,

maybe you should have another chat with your colleague. From his post, I conclude that Opera has chosen to install certain certificates and certain others not for reasons I fully respect. However, this also means that there is no technical limitation set by the phone. Please don't misunderstand me: I am not crying "give it to us underprivileged Moto users ASAP", I am just saying it would be cool if we were able to use those new features too.

I did a double check, the search field (Google, Amazon, etc.) do having a weird behavior, Google work right, but others give me Yahoo OneSearch results. Either if I type a word or open the text box without any input and select the OK key. :sherlock: Only me?

Tuesday, 13. May 2008, 12:44:54

OMG, It's soo awesome! Cheers!

BTW
Icon that I'm using for Opera Mini (Thanks SerbianFighter!):

Myeagle, there are some problems with searches at the moment which we are working on resolving via server updates.

Could you specify which language/country version of Opera Mini you downloaded and which predefined searches fail?

What I meant was that we have decided to go with these certificates, as they're most widely used, and if the phone can't handle it, it's not our fault. As my colleague also said, JavaVerified is not a good option for Opera Mini.

Well, I don't think so... I mean, the browser is recognized by the site as MOBILE, but isn't it also the browser's setting which ALLOWS that?
They fuck..d that in Hotmail this way, but it's a perfect example:
Hotmail recognizes browsers as mobile OR not, and if it's mobile - redirects to the mobile (sukcs!) mail.
AND: Opera Mobile 8.65 is recognized as MOBILE browser,
Opera Mini 4.1 is seen as a NORMAL browser..
So?
P.S. Is that possible to make a FINE icon of Opera Mini 4.1? (Phone: SonyEr P990).

Very nice release--thanks!

In OM 4, the icon was a plain red "O" while 4.1 beta had the shadow behind it. I noticed the 4.1 released version doesn't have the shadow any more. No big deal but I'm curious to know if this is by design.

Yes, it's by design. Our official (final) releases have the new icon, without the shadow.

P990i should get a nice icon if you download from mini.opera.com directly with your phone.

The same icon used to look very good on my old SE M600i, but then after a firmware updated all J2ME icons looked like scaled down crap, large and pixelated even though they where high resolution icons. Since the P990i and M600i is basicly the same hardware platform my guess is that that might be your issue, if you downloaded Opera Mini directly to your phone that is.

And on the latest firmware on P990 the latest Omini 4.1 icon (installed freshly, I uninstalled the previous beta) looks "like scaled down crap, large and pixelated". Of course, downloaded directly from opera mini site...So bad I can't put it in main menu, it looks terrible!!!!!

My version:
OperaMini hifi lemontopic int. v. 4.1.11313 20080513
the predefined search are the default:
Google
Amazon
Wikipedia
eBay
Dictionary.com
IMDb
when I did my post only Google worked, I rechecked again a moment ago ( OperaMini T9 user speed p: ) and seems all OK.
thanks

Great . But please equate capital and small Cyrillic letters in the search on page in next release, just as it is done for Latin letters. And bug with links is not fixed still :frown:. And of course Motorola users want to use new features too. Please don't forget us when you develop new versions .

Tuesday, 13. May 2008, 13:28:58

One more:
When I select letters for SMALL, it does not support polish letters!
In medium, large it's ok... Too bad 'cos small letters are perfect, it's so much more txt on the screen...
See for example on http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/0,0.html
P.S. FINALLY it does not ask me for permission on each startup. Seems fast, too.
Overally, forward!
