*** Beta Testing Rules - Read Carefully Before Posting ***

Please do not use the Beta testing forum for anything other than discussing issues/bugs in preview/beta/test versions.

We will not hesitate to close, move or delete threads and posts that do not stay on-topic, or that are not useful to the beta testing of Opera.
  • This is not the place to get help with Opera, to post about problems with other versions or feature requests and questions.
  • Be specific when reporting problems.
  • Remember to include details about the problem, such as operating system, exact URL (if any), the exact error message(s), and so on.
  • Before posting a new thread, try to search the forum to see if the problem has already been discussed.
  • Rants and raves do not belong in the beta testing forum. If you need to let off steam, this is definitely not the place to do it.
  • Make sure thread titles are brief, but informative and relevant. "Can't use Opera anymore" is a bad title. "Opera crashes on startup" is much better.

Regressions - problems that have appeared in the latest version but were not in the previous one - are of particular interest. Also mention this if you report a bug through our bug tracking system. If you are reporting a regression, it might be a good idea to prefix the summary with "[Regression]".

We will of course allow a certain amount of "chatter". Threads with "first impressions" are welcome, at least early after the release, but try to be specific when reporting problems - unless you have nothing but praise smile

I find these huge threads - "list all bugs here" to be really useless. They disrupt[1] the whole purpose of "threading" and are far more dense to search in finding if problems have been previously reported[2].

Could you make a specific rule dissuading people from this way of posting please?

[1]Everyone responding to each other in a non-linear fashion with added noise of many other points being discussed simultaneously.

[2]Problems should have a clear title, individual threads will yield far less 'noise' when being searched for (a single click to the thread rather than fighting your way through 200 posts). Meta-threads lose content within them when searched for, and make it harder to find specific information. One also fails to get an overview of 'hot' bugs from looking at the forum, as there is only a heavily updated single thread with no visible 'content'.

Excellent point.

Such a thread in itself is not harmful, but issues get buried in the thread, rather than being available from the forum overview.

A "list all bugs" thread can be somewhat useful, but not for specific reporting. It can only be used as a kind of "last minute look" at the list. But it cannot be used for regular testing and reporting.

Perhaps a preferrable alternative to a user-run "list all bugs here" thread would be an Opera-run, sticky, "Opera 7.2b Issues/Bugs Already Reported" (limited to bugs reported in the forum, of course - no need to maintain a wholly separate bug list). In such a thread each post, entered at the Opera reps' leisure, would consist of a brief one or two sentence description of the issue/bug, and a link to the thread where the bug was brought up, discussed, etc.

This might be useful to the developers as a concise, non-littered checklist; to beta testers as a way to avoid reporting or digging into old issues; to beta users as a quick way to locate work-arounds; and to testing veterans as a way to simply tell newbies to RTFST (ST = sticky thread), rather than having to do a search, find the thread which already dealt with their issue, insult the newbie, and link to the thread.

We are not allowed to publish official "known issues" lists, so that is not possible. Sorry.

And please don't try to convince me that it would be a good idea. I am not the one who needs to be convinced (it is not my call), and we've had numerous discussions about this in the past smile

I would like to remind everyone of these rules - they apply for the latest betas/previews as well.

And remember - this thread is not here for problem reports. Please post in other threads about problems and issues, or create a new thread.

That goes for any problems you might have. Any such posts to this thread will be deleted.

Would you have any objection to an unofficial, "official" list? Assuming one of the mods would be willing to undertake editing it (e.g. deleting irrelivent or duplicate posts). It could be open for everyone to post in and restarted for each and every beta/preview release.

Any Mod willing to assume the mantel? angel

If a moderator maintains the list it becomes official in everyone's eyes. To be an unofficial list it would have to be edited by an enterprising non-moderator. Would you like to undertake this project? Whomever makes the first post to create the thread is able to edit that post to keep up with changes...
The problem with satire is that it cannot be understood by the people who most need it.

A non-moderator would be unable to delete anyone else's posts. We can try it, but I predict it would have a relatively low signal-to-noise ratio.

Someone could put a blog, or a Wiki, on their website, and keep the list there.

Then we could all link to it in our sigs... wink

I hope this cab be usefoul:

0) Unfortunatly some in some websites are incompatible
Problem Example: to enter in my personal area at the www.intesabci.it

1) IMAP - Using imap protocol to access in my mailbox:
Opera mail show me the new messages but when i try to read them is impossible to download the body.
Example of Problem: using pop.tiscali.it as imap server.

2)RSS feeds - they stops to arrive
They comes regularly for weeks and then for some days the stops, but going to the web site and subscribing again you can recive all the lost messages.
Example of Problem: in the www.tomshw.com rrs

3) Bittorrent 8.10tp
some creshes (mot so much) and when if you`ve to delete one file just downloaded (not shered, also after quit of sharing) you can't except closing and opening again Opera
Also some traker (with autentication required) refused Opera
Example of Problem: (link in mininova.org)

4) Some errors (the radio can't start or it suddenly stops) playing on air radio with media player (maybe media player fault), but using mozilla no problem. Or Also using vlc pluging indtead of mplayer is ok

5)i can`t use ftp to upload. I think it is not implemented, but it could be easy to add..

welcome to the forums, 2-d. You've posted in the wrong thread. This one is about Beta Testing Rules.
1. Problems with websites should be reported in either General Opera Discussion or in Open the Web.
2/3. IMAP and RSS problems can be reported in Mail, newsgroups, chat, and newsfeeds.
4. Plug-in related problems belong in General Opera Discussion.
5. Wishes go to the Wish-list forum.

Also, please do a search before starting new topics; most of your questions/remarks have been discussed before.

Per request ...

When reporting crashes to the bug tracker, please include a crash log. You'll have to email it to the address that you receive upon submitting the bug. Thanks.

Well, talk about not being clear, you say this thread is "NOT here for problem reports", yet in your first post on this thread you say:

"Be specific when reporting problems.
Remember to include details about the problem, such as operating system, exact URL (if any), the exact error message(s), and so on.

So where do I go to report problems, here, or not here?

I'm not sure what's unclear. This particular thread is not here for problem reports. You should create separate threads for that.

Maybe you don't understand the difference between a forum and a thread (or topic). A thread deals with a specific issue/topic, while a forum is a "group" where issues/topics related to that are discussed.
