I bet if you place Facebook as a SpeedDial entry, the icon will stay there all day without disappearing - unless you click on it. Then an hour or so later it is gone.
(I also think the "time" is actually number of pages. So the more different pages surfed, the quicker the icon disappears. Maybe.
)It is predictably senile, and they come back every day when I restart Opera. So I make sure my common icons are in between my less used ones so I can just click onthe gap to launch the page. Weirdly they are all behaving at the moment and I have been on this PC for 2.5 hours using Opera.
Tried that - didn't work. I erased the .idx file and placed facebook in my speed dial. Restarted Opera and the favicon was there. I then entered facebook from the speed dial, closed Opera, re-opened Opera and the favicon was gone. Needless to say there is a new .idx file.
While I was at it, I erased a whole pile of .idx files since they seem to do no good. Didn't help. I have several other sites in my Links bar and the favicons seem to stay, but other sites seem to be constantly affected.
This is more of an irritant than anything, but it would be nice if Opera could clean it up.
This bug is still in the version 10.x betas, so maybe they will get round to it after they finish that. It is a cosmetic thing and there are more interesting problems to work on. (And I assume none of the programmers use a Personal Toolbar or they would of addressed it by now)
the best way to solve this problem is manually putting icon urls in search.ini
for example the icon code for www.download.com will be as follow:
ICON=http://download.cnet.com/favicon.ico

but remember after all the editing by SearchEdit you will have to add the icon code MANUALLY.

You are talking about a different issue when setting up search icons. I had your search icon issue when I upgraded to 9.something, but soon fixed that one and it has never come back. Whereas the Personal Bar icons will reliably disapear each day after a few hours.
This is now a very old bug, and I assumed long ago that no one at Opera has been able to reproduce it as my old bug reports never got anywhere.
Learnt to live with the madness - it is only cosmetic.

This is NOT the skin that is the problem. The icons disappearing are the "favicon.ico" icons that are stored with Bookmarks. They only disappear from the personal bar. And only for sites I have visited in this session. This is part of the operation of Opera. See this thread and others for more waffle on what is seen. Yes - we have tried all the obvious stuff.
And I think you may want to remove that stupidity quote from your signature as it feels like that is being directed to those you are helping. Calling someone you don't know stupid is not the best way to start a conversation. I guess you didn't mean it to come over like that, but it is easy to misread it like that.
Edit: Just for you, I have reverted to the Standard Skin to re-confirm this happens on all skins. Will update this post later this evening once the icons blink out.
Edit 2: And I return two hours later to report that even while running with the Standard Skin, the icons still blinked out. Comically I actually saw them all go this time. Again - ONLY the websites I have visited. Just over Two hours after starting up Opera. As I waved my cursor up towards the Personal Bar, about to click on a bookmark, all of the "used" icons blinked out together. A quick "wiggle" of the bookmark icon, dragging it a mm to the side, forces a redraw of the icon, and back it comes.
I'd like to know what's working for you.
The side bar seems appealing in that I gain more vertical pixels. On the other hand it's annoying because most pages I'll need to horizontal scroll, and my darn trackpoint doesn't scroll horizontally in Opera.

A quick restart of Opera fixes in. Or just a small "drag and drop" to move it half a millimetre, and then move it back again. This is enough to redraw.
Ultimately - I live with it. Better than swapping to alternatives like Firefox

Fixed Bug DSK-229231 (Favicon disappears a while after clicking a boomark on the personal bar)

In some ways, I'll be sorry to see the bug go. It has been around for so many years now it feels like an old friend.
I am still too nervous to install the 10 Betas as I rely on my M2 email too much. I need to know the email is bullet proof before I swap to the new browser.

Please fix this. It is just idiotic that it hasn't been fixed yet.
You're apparently not using the latest beta builds, right?
When your icons disappear, do they come back if you do the old tricks listed above? i.e. a slight drag and drop to change position? Or a browser restart? And are the only icons disappearing being the ones you have used?
Once it is fixed it should keep staying fixed. It was fixed but not any more since I upgraded it to 11.10

And I have 2 new (for me) bugs:
When I close one tab, often another tab is also closed at the same time.
And when I left-click on a link, sometimes a menu pop-up appears. Seems like the mouse event goes haywire.

There is a simple answer to your question... I assume the favicons are being wiped as they would allow someone to work out which websites you have visited by the dates on the icons. So clearing History for Privacy reasons does logically remove the icons as well as these are stored in the same location as the favicons of ALL the websites you visit.11.11 - still here. When I clear page history, history of download and date and time visited pages, it delete favicons too. WHY ?!?
But... there should be some method to keep the favicons of Bookmarks in a separate location.
Looks like the new favicons were not thought through fully when the new method was implemented.

P.S. I've just noticed my IMDb favicon has disappeared, I know other people have had problems with this particular favicon, but just clicking on it has brought it back. This favicon behaviour has also happened on SeaMonkey versions with IMDb in the past.
Somehow I suspect that it has something to do with this: I have many pages open (for example 20) when I shut down Opera. And when I restart Opera, it loads them again automatically. That requires quite a lot processor power and it slows down and interrupts bookmarks loading.
Opera team: please fix this horrible bug!
The problem continues in 11.50 (due to ship any second now), and AFAIK was never commented upon even once by anyone from Opera throughout the beta process.
With all the icon issues over the years, I'm surprised that Opera still uses the "unique" system of storing thousands upon thousands of separate icon files. No other browse resorts to that method.
I wonder if this new issue is tied up in the same mess?
