Search engine sorting (move search engines up/down)

Why is there still no option to move search engines up and down, so you can sort them on your own? I want to have Inline search and history search at the bottom but no, Opera stacks them in the same order as you add them. And plz don't tell me to edit the INI file because in era of GUI i'm not going to mess with the config files. 2 extra buttons and few lines of code that would move the actual search engines up and down is not too much to ask imo.

Guess what, that was posted exactly 2 years ago (yes, by me). And guess what. They still haven't done anything. Isn't that just R ?
Countless more useless features are more important than something as basic as this.

This is ridiculous. I'm trying to switch from Firefox after being wowed by 9.5 and something as basic as arranging search engines is not possible. How can such a simple feature take 2 years to implement.

Some other feature omissions surprised me such as not being able to resize search engine/url field and the tab bar when set vertically. Opera should get the basics sorted before adding superfluous features. *cough* Bittorrent client

Yes this would be a very useful feature and would improve users search accessibility too.

For the time being, a helpful .jar basaed workaround you may find here, speaks en, de, fr, lu. Thanks to the author, I think mikko211 is,
[edit]I'm not sure who the initiator is actually -- anyway this little .jar is help indeed, thanks. up

Some are older than that, but yes they do read the forums, they just don't make decisions based only on what a few individuals want. It is a wish-list, not a demand list.

Then some threads are to be upped for ever, since they don't bother to even reply with a simple yes/no. I too read the forum description but we have no damn evidence.
I suggest if a wish is not feasible they should lock the threads, to spare unnecessary hopes. That would be less rude than the current carelessness.

Does it mean that we have to write as many as possible topics to get the developers to implement, finally, the feature? How about bug fixes? I've been writing about Opera's useless changes of search encoding for a long time, but the developers decided to turn to webkit instead of fixing the bugs. Do they care about users?

This request is perfectly feasible. There's no need to close the thread. You would be less rude if you didn't insult the developers for being careless just because they don't implement the feature that you want. They will prioritise and cannot possible add everything requested in this forum. Features do get added regularly.

Instead of posting duplicate threads, use the advanced search, and add a comment to an existing thread to support the request. Almost every feature in this forum has been requested in previous threads.

That's the trouble. People think that by complaining constantly about some bug (off-topic in this forum) or feature request it will get implemented sooner. It won't. They have a bug tracker to organise their work so they already know about it. Duplicate reports only waste everyone's time.

I expect that they will fix critical bugs and those that require less work, before trivial bugs or those that require more work.

Pesala, the majority of people just uses browser and suffers from the absence of feature. Only a little part of people reaches the site of developers, goes through registration and creates a topic. I mean, it is not only a strong feeling of wishing for something, there are many people that wants the same feature too. If there are many topics devoted to the same thing, I think, it's worth implementing. The topicstarter suggested a great idea, but you've posted in the topic, that developers doesn't need to implement it, that it's just a moaning, the head of the topic is a doub/trip/qudrup/*/*/le-posting.

I have the impression that the developers doesn't want to improve the browser, just write the code, because it's writable, think out another unite. In the last benchmark of THG Opera has taken last place, it looks like, the authors won't include the browser in the list next time. But… we have Opera Unite!!

That claim is not supported by any evidence. If anyone is suffering from the lack of a feature in any application they would surely make an effort to contact the developers. Registering on their official support forum would be an obvious first choice.

Improving their products is the only way they will stay in business. Your idea of what constitutes an improvement may be different to their's.

I have said no such thing. I said, "This request is perfectly feasible. There's no need to close the thread." Moaning about "useless changes to search encoding" or that they "don't care about their users" is off-topic and liable to get the thread closed.

The reason it should be closed is, as Tamil pointed out in his first reply, that it is a duplicate of a previous thread by the topic starter. It would be a significant improvement for those who use lots of search engines. I am not sure how many add more than a couple. I manage my own search order by using a customised menu.

By reading the previous thread you would have found a link to Sort Search Engines extension. That should satisfy most who need this feature.

I am struck by the fact tamil has made available a search engine java app that is handy. I further believe the issue to be a wider applicability of the browser as a platform base for cloud base across multiple device generations and forms ...that would bring opera along quite nicely.
Version = 12.14
Platform = win32 & 64
System = win7-32 & win8-64
sadly nothing for HP Pre 3 & Touchpad webOS☎
sadly o-android4 is very unstable ;^(

It's not a developers problem, rather of communication.
As I said, a simple yes/no to 5+ years old threads that have indeed input from many Opera users should not be too difficult I believe. I'm not expecting every single thread to be considered obviously.
The alternative you are giving is a kind attention of yours but off-topic, as we want implementations into Opera, not downloading/tweaking anything else.
Thank you for your concern.

It would not be possible. They do not generally disclose Future Plans. If they said “No, this will never be implemented because there's already an extension for it,” people would still ask for it to be built-in. If they said, “Yes, it will be implemented in Opera for Webkit,” if it wasn't people would complain, “You said this would be implemented, but it wasn't.” A generic statement, which they have already made is “Post your wishes here. We will consider them for future versions.” So there is your answer — they are already considering this feature request, but they cannot say if or when it will be implemented.

Extension support was implemented precisely to add features that only some users want, but I still think this should be built-in. Its not worth installing an extension unless you're constantly adding/removing search engines.
