This new version has NOT fixed the notification problem for me. :frown:

Might I suggest bug fix releases like this get some sort of differentiating version number for people to make sure they have the correct version (i.e. 9.5.1b1-a or something like that) Right now, the only way we can tell we have the new version is the file dates as the file sizes are the same between the two versions.

thanks!

Hi, could you try to uninstall previous version, reboot device and install the new one again? It might not help, but it's worth a try.

If it doesn't help, could you please post your device type?

This has fixed the problem for me!
HTC Hermes (AT&T 8525).
I just ran Opera Mobile, surfed to a site, closed it and my notifications were all still set properly
Now I can get back to testing it

Same for me. I also have an HTC TyTn-ATT 8525. I already posted this but just in case will do so here as well. You need to remove all files and previous versions of Opera and then reinstall the new beta release. It does work.

Just checked it in my AT&T 8925 (Tilt), running the OE ROM, and the notification bug has been corrected. Just to note: I uninstalled the previous version and restarted before installing the newest beta.

Glad to be able to test this again. Thanks to the Opera Team!

This new version has not fixed the problem for me. I uninstalled the previous version, restarted and then re-installed. However all my favourites were still there, and the problem remains. Is some sort of registry setting not being uninstalled when I uninstall the software? Are there any other files I should be removing after uninstall?

This time I uninstalled, soft reset, then reinstalled, but the problem still exists.
I have an AT&T 8925 TILT (HTC Kaiser/ TyTN II) running the official ROM from AT&T with no modifications.

This is the same phone I am using - in the UK on O2. New build does not fix problem, removed program, deleted Opera 9.5 folder in /application data/ then restarted.

Problem still occurs.

Odd that it would work on mine but not on yours... would lead me to believe something else is up.This may be silly, but you did remember to re-set all your sounds before making a judgement, right?

I'm 5.2.1622 (Build 18128.0.4.2). What are you running?

I did remember. I tested it several times as I am restoring the Notifications portion of the registry and then checking that the restoration took place in the notifications control panel.

My system is CE OS 5.2.1622 (build 18128.0.4.4) (I got this latest version from HTC, which is an AT&T sanctioned version from here http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=67&act=sd)

I have done the same thing and am using exactly the same phone and software build: CE OS 5.2.1622 (build 18128.0.4.4) - the updated Beta is not working for me either.

Just tested this new build on my Verizon XV6800, and the notification bug have been fixed!

Now, the next thing to go should be the memory problem. I must say, after 2 hours with this new build, if that one other flaw is gone, I'd be more than willing to pay for such a high quality browser.

bug still there after installing new beta on a Palm / Treo 700 wx (WM 5/Spanish ROM).

Previous version was removed, Opera 9.5 folder deleted followed by soft reset before installing new version. (I made sure all traces of earlier beta were removed from main memory. No information whatsoever had been placed in storage card).

Fired up the new build, and last page loaded in previous build flashed for a fraction of a second before homepage was loaded. ????

In any case, as stated in first line of thread, notifications are still disabled....

At this very moment I am not sure if link followed downloaded the fixed version or if I did not remove old version completely before re-installing...

Will try again and report back...

make sure to remove all opera 9 folders including from the device program folder, application data, and windows folder. i noticed opera files in all 3 folders. then re-install the new beta and you are all set.

The new version fixed the notification problem for my AT&T Tilt.

It also seems to have solved a problem I had navigating the GMail website. Using the old version, I would be stuck in the right half of the page when accessing my inbox - thus not being able to open my mail. I'm now able to navigate the entire page normally.

Is that the update that came out back in Feb or March? Something in that time frame? If it is, updating to that caused more problems for me than it fixed so I had to roll back. Could it be an issue with that particular build being touchy?

It is that update. For me however, it did wonders for my phone and has been rock solid ever since. There are different hardware rev's of the phone and I had mine replaced 3 times before I got one that was stable but this one has been fantastic with this OS build.

To all those having problems with this update not fixing the notification bug, try redownloading the cab file. I tried 3 or 4 times to get the notifications to work with the build i downloaded yesterday morning to no avail. I redownloaded this afternoon and it worked no problem. This is exactly what i did:

Re-downloaded and transferred the cab file to my storage card
uninstalled Opera via "Remove programs"
Manually deleted any "Opera" folders in the \Application data, \windows, storage card, and \program files
soft-reset the device
re-installed from the new cab file

Notifications now working (finally!)

I found the culprit (on my PDA). The uninstaller for Opera is not removing the "Opera 9.5" folder in Application Data. Once I removed this one directory, I was able to reinstall without a soft reset and my notifications are now working.

Just to be clear, this is what I did to fix the Notifications bug using the fixed version of Opera Mobile.

1. Uninstall Opera 9.5
. a. Click Start/Settings/System Tab/Remove Programs
2. Open File Explorer and delete the "Opera 9.5" folder in the Application Data folder
. a. Click Start/Programs/<File Explorer is located different places on different PDA's>
. b. Click My Device/Application Data
. c. Tap and Hold on "Opera 9.5" and delete
3. Install latest version of Opera Mobile.

GMail not working after all - I had posted a message saying that I was able to navigate normally on the GMail website after installing the update. Unfortunately, that was true only between the time I installed the update and the first time I rebooted by AT&T Tilt. Now the same olg GMail problem (not being able to navigate to the left of the page in the inbox) still exists. Sorry about the misinformation!

Worked for me great. I'm so happy to have the notifications working again, it was hard to go back to opera mini as mobile is a great browser. By the way i have a XDA Orbit 2 (HTC Touch Cruise).

I am happy to report that uninstalling, manually removing the Opera folder from Application Data, and then soft resetting and re-installing worked. This is a great browser and I'm happy this problem is fixed. I plan to buy it once the bugs are ironed out.

Unfortunately, one huge problem remains: the Repeat checkbox for the Reminder sound is still permanently grayed out. Can anybody from Opera comment on how to remedy that problem?

Edit:

Hey, after a bit more Googling, I was able to find a solution which worked perfectly for me. Note that I had to close all my applications including the Sounds & Notifications panel, otherwise it wouldn't work. http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/27/how-to-enable-repeat-play-audio-sound-notifications-in-windows-mobile/

I can acknowledge that this new beta doesn't disable the notifications on the HTC Touch XL. I did a full backup and after running Opera 9.51b1 (still beta 1? why not beta2? same name, but different builds creates confusion), the notifications are exactly as I left them. I did a registry comparision so I know exactly what has changed. I'm back to beta testing it!

The new beta fixed the notifications problem in HP111 classic. I think it should be highlighted that this fix only prevents from disabling the notifications but does not revert the setting that were modified by the previous beta.

This update fixed the bug on my AT&T Tilt, running the OEM, un-modified ROM. Thanks!
