Plug-in detetction on a page-Opera need to do a much better job

One of the problems of opera is that its lack of user friendliness and sifficient resources to guide users for a new plug-in installation. In the current method, when user go to a page, he/she will see blank plug-in content area if there is no plug-in is installed for that content. When you click on that, it pops up a confusing message about plug-in and you click "yes" hoping that something good will show soon. Humm, you are wrong. It will take you to a confusing page like this one. You don't know what to do.

Hope opera give this plug-in annoyance a serious thought so that minimum user skill is required.

I am interested to hear from opera people about what they think their current plug-in management? Do they think they are doing a great job?

I think Opera made a very good move by looking for plugins in the plugin folders of applications they belong to. Never liked the idea of looking in Mozilla plugin folder as well as in the plug in folders of other installed Opera versions; it may be causing the multiple plugin phenomenon. (Needless to say I always edit the plugin path to just one when doing a new install).

As far as I understand the current plugin system it will discard a second plugin in Opera's own plugin folder when it was already found in the plugin folder of the application it belongs to.

I would like to see a description of how Opera detects plugins. I have never seen it. It is shrowded in mystery....:sherlock:

All those dupliacate pug-in issues and detecting from installed applications comes later. First it has to do something so that user is not annoyed by its plug-in detection at the webpages where user encounters it first. It is noteworthy that some users (surely the ones who have only seen IE in life) think its a drawback of the browser if it needs to install something in the first place.

I reread your TS. That is confusing and needs to be smoothed out.

[off topic]I don't know how FF behaves in this department but I do know from an incidental look at their forums that they have an extensive sticky post regarding plugins. Having something similar here would make things at the forum easier.[/off topic]

you are not off-topic at all. these are all related and about user experience about plug-ins. Opera's help sections in general is of ancient age.
