Google Chrome Interface in Opera

I like the interface of google chrome very much, Is it possible for opera to do the same thing, I dont want any toolbar on the top and even the status bar appears when the user hovers to any link.

Right click on the Toolbar, choose 'Customize', and turn on or off any toolbar you do or don't want. Seems pretty simple to me.

As for status, it's set up in the same place, and you can decide where to put that, too... Top, bottom, on/off, etc...

You can not turn off the toolbar of [File Edit View Bookmarks], I donno what it is called.

Yes you can, it was a default keyboard shortcut in past versions but it has been removed. The functionality to add it back, however, is still there.

Go to preferences >> advanced >> shortcuts >> keyboard setup >> edit >> application and add the following:
Action: Enable menu bar | Disable menu bar.
I chose for it to work with Alt F10.

You can customize it the way you prefer it.

Edit: You can also add a button to do the same, as per Squirt's reply.

well, I'd like a way to rearrange the positions of the tab bar, personal bar, main bar, navigation bar, address bar, etc. For example I want to put personal bar under the tab bar, while the address bar above tab bar. Is there a way?

You can also show/hide menu on opera:config page -> search for "Show Menu"

Opera's toolbars are designed to be just "holders" within which you have almost total liberty to do as you please. In other words, you don't move the toolbars (well, you can move them to the top bottom, left or right, but they'll always keep a specific order) you change what's inside them. Watch the video here to get (just) an idea of what can be done.
The two exceptions are the menu bar (see discussion above) and the personal bar, which has a different purpose than the others (it is more or less an extension of the bookmark function).

You'll find a panopoly of button choices, including several that reduce the menu bar to a button that you add to another bar.

Now this seems the most relevant Chrome thread to post this (we already have loads popping up)!

Apart from the obvious performance benefits, the UI is the most interesting for me. It does already look a lot like Opera, but the 2 other bits I like are the hidden title bar (when maximised) and the hidden status bar.

I've already disabled the status bar in my Opera (9.52, Linux), but recently I've really found the need to quickly see the URL of a link. My workaround is by waiting for the tooltip to appear, but I like the way Chrome does it:

When the mouse cursor is moved over a link, the address of the link is displayed at the bottom left of the screen.

- almost like a pop-up status bar. Is there a way of mimic'ing this in Opera?

I haven't tried, but I'm guessing there must be a way to remove the title bar using full-screen mode (not sure how that would affect the minimise/maximise/close buttons), but has anyone done something similar?

AFAIK, F11 is the only option to make the title bar disappear. (I'm not sure, but there might be customized buttons for max-/minimise/close.)
But, there's another problem with F11 and that's the Windows task bar which will disappear also and making it impossible to change to another program using the mouse (but Alt+Tab still works).

There are some fullscreen buttons in the wiki that are useful (I like Fullscreen + scrollbars, address bar and page bar (top))

I'm not in Windows, but as you say, the task bar is also hidden (hence fullscreen mode). It's not quite the same as Chrome, but I have a feeling that's the best we'll get (for now)

Right-click the toolbar you want it on (I use the Main bar) and select Customize. Click on the Buttons tab and then on Status. Drag the "Status Field" item to the toolbar. You can test it while you're still customising: just put the cursor over a link and you'll see the url pop up where you put the status field.

True, although I have already hidden the main bar. Status field cant be placed anywhere on the tab bar and it looks damn ugly if I put it on my address bar (eat's a lot of space).

Before I had a "show tooltips" checkbox on my View Bar. And when I wanted to see the address I had to enable this. Now, this CSS is just great and it looks beeeaaautiful!!!

@AyushJ: Thanks for the brilliant CSS!! Exactly what I was looking for to acheive this.

I've tweaked a new version to be more "traditional" tool-tip style, check it here if you like: link-url-popup.css. Looks like this: chrome-ui-tooltip-white.png

Yup...thanks! This is excellent! When used with the Toggle Menu (On/Off), it really increases the screenspace. In the attached pic you can see that I have more screenspace (following the suggestions given above) in Opera as compared to Chrome.Screenshot1.JPG

Wrong, Google chrome has more space, just remove the bookmarks bar.

While I dont want to argue this ad infinitum, but if I remove the bookmarks bar in Chrome, then my access to my bookmarks in Chrome is (1) either restricted to being online and/ or (2) increases the number of clicks becoz I will have to go through the "Customize and Control Chrome" button. This means more on-browser navigation. The way I set it up maintains an approximate parity between Opera and Chrome. After all, one does not compare 'apples and oranges'...though, on a lighter note, we often find comparisons between 'apples and microsoft'!

Your example : For example- if you downloaded the WinChanger.exe to your C:\ drive, then you can run it by going to Start-Run-Type:
c:\WinChanger.exe Window-Disable:#ClassShell_TrayWnd
^^ it will disable your Start-Menu button, to enable-Press WindowsKey+R:

Yes. You can use a batch file to start opera which will first run opera then the winchanger command after some seconds(to give opera some time to display the window) ..

@snf: making a batch file is pretty simple. Just create a plain text file, write the instructions inside, save it and change the file format from "txt" to "bat".
To make the batch wait for opera to start, you can use sleep.exe (http://unattended.msfn.org/files/global/sleep.zip)
this should work:

Start "" "%PROGRAMFILES%\Opera\opera.exe"
C:\Sleep.exe 5
C:\WinChanger.exe Window-Title:#CLASSOpWindow

And here are some questions:

link-url-popup.css shows the links relative to the current page, eg. "/community/forums/". Is it possible to make it always return full links? (http://my.opera.com/community/forums/)

Also, is there any way to make it show Tooltips? (Just like the Status bar does)

Here's a comparison you-all might be interested in: Chrome does indeed give you more screen for page images, which it readily gives over to banner advertizing... Go figure.

I really like the idea of the link-url-popup.css, however it doesn't seem to work reliably enough to disable the status bar and regular url popup balloons just yet:
on pages like wikipedia.org it doesn't get shown 'on top' (z-index 9999 doesn't seem to be the final answer?). Same for pages with links like www.rtlnieuws.nl

Can anyone confirm that this hide menu trick works in Vista?

With Tamils advice I've tried creating keyboard shortcuts, added a menu button to the address bar and disabling the Show Menu in teh User Prefs in OperaConfig but ALL the time the menu stays there.

Perhaps this shortcut doesn't apply to Vista?

Change the padding: padding:3px 6px 3px 3px !important; (top right bottom left)

Yes, use the width property e.g. width: 50%; or width: 300px;
