Something is up.. 3 times already GMail seem to freeze. I had a unread mail, but whenever I hovered my cursor over the link it didn't change into a hand. I *could* reload the page, and that fixed it all 3 times.

All my mails coming up with double-spacing.

I thought I was the only one....
Opera 9.6 loads gmail fine for me, but as of today (13-10-2008) clicking on any link within gmail usually fails - nothing happens. It sometimes decides to show me a mail, but the unread mail count does not change even after opening a new mail. When I go to the spam folder and click on "delete all spam" nothing happens. The google talk often goes nuts and shows me as disconnected.

However I don't see anything freezing or opera eating up 99% CPU, it seems to be behaving itself. If I switch to the old version of gmail, everything goes crazy, 50% CPU usage (I have dual-core) and everything freezes.

Has google changed their gmail code yesterday?

Edit: I just downgraded to 9.27 and gmail works perfectly fine here. Looks like 9.6 messed it up. I'm going to stick with 9.27 till opera fixes these horrible bugs.

http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1&disablechatbrowsercheck=1 won't load any more, since upgrading to 9.60. I can still use gmail with http://mail.google.com/ but if I then click the link to "older version" (which I believe is the same as ?ui=1) it can't load.

Somehow with the new update the 'blinker' to type doesn't appear in the 'body'. So I can't write emails no more.
I'm using a mac with leopard and last time I checked everything is updated.

Hope there is a cure soon!

Regards,
Mark

I mentioned this a few days ago. For the first couple days of having 9.6, GMail worked fine, but then it went haywire. It is as though GMail did something different. Won't load unless I click "basic html." Everything that used to be on one line now wraps to a second line.

I invite you guys to check out Zoho Mail. It has all of the features that make GMail good, but minus some of the bad points. And it works with Opera. That's mail.zoho.com.

gmail works fine for me, although i use the http://mail.google.com link. is there a reason you use the disablechatbrowsercheck=1 url? what does that use.

i do have the setting in gmail to always use https checked though.

so far gmail is the ONE site out of all the sites i visit the most often that is working 100% for me.

Doesn't work here even with https. Google did something a few days back - I'm sure they changed some code. Gmail used to work with 9.60 earlier.

Wednesday, 15. October 2008, 16:04:17

Same here....still does not work for me even with https......and like the fellow before me said, for a few days, it worked fine with 9.6. It must have been something Google changed.

My big thread on Gmail problems with Opera versions more recent than the 9.50 betas is here: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=250415

I really wish we could get an update from someone at Opera about these issues, since they've been ignored for months.

I seem to have the double space issue (Debian and 9.60)

My gmail works fine. I've not had any problems--I'm currently using 9.61 but not had any problems with gmail for some time.

I do get the double space problem, although I've had that for a while now.

Also a new problem I've had since 9.6 is when I click in the body area to write my email Opera cannot put the cursor at the top of the email. It always puts it one line down. Obviously all I have to do is start my email, then I can go to the start and backspace to remove the unwanted blank line at the top. But I wonder whats started that? Anyone else having this problem?

Snap. It worked fine until about 4-5 days ago. Now I get a message saying :-

I do not know if it can be helpful to you, but I had the problem with gmail that Wand was keeping writing my ID and password without getting in.
If you press the Wand button without success, try to press afterwards F5. I made it and then gmail opens and works without any problem more.

Suddenly, it started working again, about 2 days ago. Great, I thought. Then, I downloaded 9.61. And, I get the above error message once again. Now, it also happens that neither IE or Firefox will open Gmail, either. Which suggets the problem is Gmail. But....As I cannot open my gmail, I cannot fire off a WTF to Gmail!

Monday, 27. October 2008, 17:15:44

Help. Hilfe. Secours. I am still getting the error message as in my first post. Yet, when I use an old version of Opera Tor I had on a USB stick....voila!.....Gmail opens!!!!! In 9.61, IE, and Firefox, however, it does not????????

I'll echo what others have said about gmail after the upgrade to 9.61. Prior to this upgrade, gmail loaded fine. Immediately following the upgrade, gmail always sticks in the Loading phase, never completing, and causes Opera to start using massive amounts of CPU to the detriment of the entire system (XP SP2 2GB RAM Dual Core CPU)

The https trick above does not work and produces the same effects. Identifying as browsers other than Opera offers no change.

The upgrade to 9.62 showed the same behavior.

I'm also having problems with Gmail after upgrade to 9.61. Page seems to lock up. If I use Fire Fox to open Gmail first , then Gmail works in Opera! I tried rolling back through the versions 9.50 etc. same problem until I loaded 9.27 which works fine and fast with Gmail.

9.27 also lets me download from sites linked via php to image venue type sites that 9.50 onwards seem to block (ok its safer that way but I know the risks and am prepared to take them)

I don't have this sticking or freezing or high CPU usage problem, but a different problem.

I used to get the messages that I forwarded to myself using the opera client, through the gmail server. Now when I check gmail, opera will not download those messages that i sent to myself, even though they are in my gmail box.

It worked fine and then just stopped. I can't relate it to any sort of opera update, was using 9.61 when i could use it and when i couldn't. Now using 9.62, but it still leaves those messages in my gmail inbox.

Upgrade to 9.60 forced me to use older version of gmail because newer one didn't work properly. Since upgrading to 9.62 I could use gmail only in basic HTML form and that was very inconvenient. Finally turning on "pretend to be Firefox" (not sure how it's called in English version) option for gmail did the trick for me.

If gmail stays open for a long time in 9.5+ versions of Opera, browser tends to freeze from time to time, starts eating memory and CPU and keeps hanging in processes even after closing.

I'm on v9.61 and Gmail works fine for me. No problems but have to use Basic HTML view.
I am not using Opera mail access to Gmail because attachments use up 5X times their size in transfers thru my modem. Sending attachments directly from Gmail works fine.

Same problem here. I can't use Gmail with http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1&disablechatbrowsercheck=1
It uses 100% CPU and takes forever to load, just displaying "Loading..."
The problem has already been reported several times:

http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=249514
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=252996

I can only use the plain HTML or mobile versions. Version 2 of Gmail doesn't work because I don't have broadband Internet.

I'm using 9.62, https.google.mail. No problems, including https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1&disablechatbrowsercheck=1
I do get the double spacing while writing, but i use the M2 client to send anything, so it's not a problem.

Really? How long does it take to load v.1 on your computer? You never see a CPU spike?

I have to agree. Huge problems with Gmail here, to the point it is almost unusable.

Problems noted:

1. I have tried disabling chat to see if that helps anything. It doesn't really help at all.

2. I used to be able to select "Older version" which was a faster Gmail version for me, as Opera is really slow with Gmail even before 9.60. However, I now cannot select "Older version" under this newer version of Gmail.

3. When I use "standard" version, even with chat disabled, it is extremely slow.

4. If I use HTML version, it is faster, but certain features are not available to me, including creating new labels! I am allowed to create a new label under 'standard" version, but it takes forever.

5. Reading email, deleting email, archiving email, everything is an extreme effort under the new Opera.

6. I might add I am using Opera for Mac.

I just tested this. No problem at all using HTML version. It is instantaneous and the label can be used. Removing the test label was also instant. Turning Chat on or off makes no difference.

Where to flame gmail exactly ?
The problem is not linked to Opera. I have Opera 9.26 for some days already but just today (2008-11-20) gmail launched a new display which doesn't work in Opear unless I click older version.
I don't see link to make feedback to them, they always stick to Firefox code which renders poorly everywhere else almost on purpose. They don't care about standards or interoperability.

For me too. Identified as Opera, Using the Standard layout.
Fetch mail with Pop doesn't work for me, but that is another issue entirely.

There is something wrong in your opera config. I've found the same problem, after removing opera6.ini gmail strart working just fine. Maybe you customized styles processing and that broke gmail

Opera is working fine with gmail, if you can get it to login, just woke up today to realize that opera login into gmail is broken. this aint a opera problem though. I've been using the old trick of masking it has firefox just for login (once in the account it's identified has opera). so the problem is with gmail, not letting opera login and saying that opera is not compatible or something, despite it is...google is trying banning opera users again...lol...thanks to the masking feature  once more.

One more thing I'm using gmail themes since yesterday with no problems. using opera 9.62 on vista32. So no problems whatsoever with opera, has usual

you guys must have a broken config of some type, like cancel told.

Hey I wouldn't want to loose all my config !
I may loose everything like settings, personnal info, mime settings, etc ?

I never changed the custom styles (whatever they are, I don't even know them).
When they released their themes now the layout is broken. If I click on older version it takes away all my CPU and hangs. Only HTML works.
I think gmail has always been very nasty over Opera. As if they did that on purpose.

How can something be broken besides gmail ?
My Opera works with everything including the gmail just the day before.

My Opera works fine after login (And I'm using the planets skin). maybe it is some lab feature thats doing that, google says in the support page that problems with gmail, may be related to a lab feature use (they are beta). try disabling all of them if you have any enabled.

The problem with opera and gmail and other google services are with the login. Since friday I'm having trouble login to gmail (it can be done just by refreshin the login page after sending the credentials). And other user have revealed me it is impossible to login to youtube with opera using the google account, since friday too.

So some google upgrade to the login system in some of their services has disrupted opera users experience (or usuability of services).
