Opera 9.6 loads gmail fine for me, but as of today (13-10-2008) clicking on any link within gmail usually fails - nothing happens. It sometimes decides to show me a mail, but the unread mail count does not change even after opening a new mail. When I go to the spam folder and click on "delete all spam" nothing happens. The google talk often goes nuts and shows me as disconnected.
However I don't see anything freezing or opera eating up 99% CPU, it seems to be behaving itself. If I switch to the old version of gmail, everything goes crazy, 50% CPU usage (I have dual-core) and everything freezes.
Has google changed their gmail code yesterday?
Edit: I just downgraded to 9.27 and gmail works perfectly fine here. Looks like 9.6 messed it up. I'm going to stick with 9.27 till opera fixes these horrible bugs.

I invite you guys to check out Zoho Mail. It has all of the features that make GMail good, but minus some of the bad points. And it works with Opera. That's mail.zoho.com.

gmail works fine for me, although i use the http://mail.google.com link. is there a reason you use the disablechatbrowsercheck=1 url? what does that use.
i do have the setting in gmail to always use https checked though.
so far gmail is the ONE site out of all the sites i visit the most often that is working 100% for me.

Try to load gmail with https
when i go to http://mail.google.com the loading hags, but when i go to https://mail.google.com the site loads and gmail is working fine.

Doesn't work here even with https. Google did something a few days back - I'm sure they changed some code. Gmail used to work with 9.60 earlier.

I really wish we could get an update from someone at Opera about these issues, since they've been ignored for months.
Wednesday, 22. October 2008, 08:08:02
I do get the double space problem, although I've had that for a while now.
Also a new problem I've had since 9.6 is when I click in the body area to write my email Opera cannot put the cursor at the top of the email. It always puts it one line down. Obviously all I have to do is start my email, then I can go to the start and backspace to remove the unwanted blank line at the top. But I wonder whats started that? Anyone else having this problem?

Snap. It worked fine until about 4-5 days ago. Now I get a message saying :-

Opera was not able to connect to the server. The server may be using the unsupported SSL 2 protocol, which is not considered safe enough for secure communication. The site owner should upgrade to TLS 1.0 or newer.
Make sure your Internet connection is active and check whether other applications that rely on the same connection are working.

If you press the Wand button without success, try to press afterwards F5. I made it and then gmail opens and works without any problem more.

Suddenly, it started working again, about 2 days ago. Great, I thought. Then, I downloaded 9.61. And, I get the above error message once again. Now, it also happens that neither IE or Firefox will open Gmail, either. Which suggets the problem is Gmail. But....As I cannot open my gmail, I cannot fire off a WTF to Gmail!

The https trick above does not work and produces the same effects. Identifying as browsers other than Opera offers no change.
The upgrade to 9.62 showed the same behavior.
Friday, 31. October 2008, 05:46:43
9.27 also lets me download from sites linked via php to image venue type sites that 9.50 onwards seem to block (ok its safer that way but I know the risks and am prepared to take them)

I used to get the messages that I forwarded to myself using the opera client, through the gmail server. Now when I check gmail, opera will not download those messages that i sent to myself, even though they are in my gmail box.
It worked fine and then just stopped. I can't relate it to any sort of opera update, was using 9.61 when i could use it and when i couldn't. Now using 9.62, but it still leaves those messages in my gmail inbox.

If gmail stays open for a long time in 9.5+ versions of Opera, browser tends to freeze from time to time, starts eating memory and CPU and keeps hanging in processes even after closing.
Friday, 14. November 2008, 09:01:09
It uses 100% CPU and takes forever to load, just displaying "Loading..."
The problem has already been reported several times:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=249514
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=252996
I can only use the plain HTML or mobile versions. Version 2 of Gmail doesn't work because I don't have broadband Internet.
Saturday, 15. November 2008, 02:45:31
I do get the double spacing while writing, but i use the M2 client to send anything, so it's not a problem.

Problems noted:
1. I have tried disabling chat to see if that helps anything. It doesn't really help at all.
2. I used to be able to select "Older version" which was a faster Gmail version for me, as Opera is really slow with Gmail even before 9.60. However, I now cannot select "Older version" under this newer version of Gmail.
3. When I use "standard" version, even with chat disabled, it is extremely slow.
4. If I use HTML version, it is faster, but certain features are not available to me, including creating new labels! I am allowed to create a new label under 'standard" version, but it takes forever.
5. Reading email, deleting email, archiving email, everything is an extreme effort under the new Opera.
6. I might add I am using Opera for Mac.

I just tested this. No problem at all using HTML version. It is instantaneous and the label can be used. Removing the test label was also instant. Turning Chat on or off makes no difference.

The problem is not linked to Opera. I have Opera 9.26 for some days already but just today (2008-11-20) gmail launched a new display which doesn't work in Opear unless I click older version.
I don't see link to make feedback to them, they always stick to Firefox code which renders poorly everywhere else almost on purpose. They don't care about standards or interoperability.

There is something wrong in your opera config. I've found the same problem, after removing opera6.ini gmail strart working just fine. Maybe you customized styles processing and that broke gmail

One more thing I'm using gmail themes since yesterday with no problems. using opera 9.62 on vista32. So no problems whatsoever with opera, has usual
you guys must have a broken config of some type, like cancel told.

Hey I wouldn't want to loose all my config !
I may loose everything like settings, personnal info, mime settings, etc ?
I never changed the custom styles (whatever they are, I don't even know them).
When they released their themes now the layout is broken. If I click on older version it takes away all my CPU and hangs. Only HTML works.
I think gmail has always been very nasty over Opera. As if they did that on purpose.

How can something be broken besides gmail ?
My Opera works with everything including the gmail just the day before.

The problem with opera and gmail and other google services are with the login. Since friday I'm having trouble login to gmail (it can be done just by refreshin the login page after sending the credentials). And other user have revealed me it is impossible to login to youtube with opera using the google account, since friday too.
So some google upgrade to the login system in some of their services has disrupted opera users experience (or usuability of services).
