Opera 9.5(83) for UIQ3 - Bugs and issues thread!!
Let me start this.Regarding flash support, lately UIQ3 users got limited support on Opera 8.65
http://www.uiqblog.com/2008/09/02/swmail-releases-flash-pluggin-for-all-uiq3-phones/
Its on latest firmware for g700 and g900 and was unofficially ported to the other UIQ3 phones
However, it does not work on Opera 9.5...can we hope this to be changed for next version???

I tried changing colors in opera:config (I think the correct one is "Color.Form.Text" under "Adaptive Zoom", the "Colors - Form.Text" seems to change the font instead) to #000000 but without luck.
Also tried to toggle the "User Prefs - Enable styling on forms", but with that option unchecked only button texts became black. (They were all white before)

I downloaded the beta and tried installing but I got a message prompting me to install software "SEMCSEZPlatformID Version 1.0" first.
I've Googled "SEMCSEZPlatformID" but haven't been able to find this file anywhere. Anyone have any ideas, I'd really like to try 9.5 on the Z8

ares07, try this to enable Flash on G700 and G900 (from Known issues in release notes):
Browser plug-ins are disabled by default due to non-existent or incomplete system support for Flash content. They can be enabled by the user for experimental purposes only, via More > Tools > Change settings > Advanced > Allow plug-ins.
This should enable the same flash plugin as used for Opera 8 on these phones.

That is opposite as you wrote above!
The same plugin working on my P1 and Opera 8, does not work on Opera 9.5

karl, i´ve done that...still does not work...i´m using a P1 with the g900 pluggin installed, but i asked a friend with a g900 (latest firmware) to do the same, and also did not work...
we´ve used http://happytreefriends.com as a test...it works with sound and animations on opera 8.65, but does not work on opera 9.5

keypad support, especially for scrolling, preferabley customisable like Opera Mobile 8.65 for Series60 is a must.
I like to use my phone one handed so don't like to fiddle about with a stylus on the touch screen, this means I have to spin the jog wheel on the W960i far too much to scroll up and down through a large page. A single press of a key designated for up, down, left, right scroll would be much more efficient. Just like Opera Mini and Opera Mobile S60. Touch screen functionality doesn't mean you have to completely abandon the keypad does it?
Is it possible to increase the text/font size without using zoom? A simple small, meduim, large would be ok. Increasing the font size using zoom results in text that appears slightly blurred.
On my W960i in predictive text mode, if I enter text into the Google search field on the start page and that search term contains two words and the second one disappears out of the box field provided it is lost and Google only searches on the first word, not both. Perhaps clicking in any text field should automatically open up a text editor screen like it does with Opera Mini to allow for long or multiple words to be entered. If I select the W960i on screen keyboard everything works ok.
Despite my issues above 9.5beta is clearly a huge improvement on 8.65 for UIQ. Nice work Opera!

It is on Opera 8.65 (great option!!!)
Hope it will be in the final version!

I've tried playing some swf files localy via opera 9.5 and now it works. However i tried to access happytreefriends.com and the flash animations do not play i get an out of memory error! The same site opens fast on 8.65 with flash and sound.
Other example: http://dream-mobile.info/d/load/Flash/Games/horses.swf
Plays on 8.65 but does not play on 9.5. So embebed flash files do not play.
Other problem: text entry is SUPER SLOW. I tried to post on this forum and had to gave up and use opera mini. I also experienced the same slowness when using the twitter widget

I just tried Opera on a P1 with a dark phone Theme with white letters, and I can't see anything I'm typing on edit boxes on web pages.
This is because both the edit boxes background and the text are white!
You need to override the default phone text color while browsing.
Thank you and keep up the good work!!

Do you think you can make Opera not to report as a PDA version? (in a user setting)
Sites like Google, Gizmodo and others load by default the portable version, and this may not interest us users all the time.
Can you please make Opera use the Opera Mini proxy? (in a user setting)
This is very useful on very heavy sites, or while accessing with a bad connection, as it decreases the load time/KB without loosing much.
Please take care not to leave the processor at 100% while browsing some pages.
Maybe it was javascript or other processes, but I found out I could not answer a phone call while the browser was on top.
This happened to me on adobe.com
Please *close* Opera when the user asks Opera to close.
I found out that both Opera and Widgets were on memory (and consuming a lot of processor) even though I told them to Close.
Please provide a landscape mode for browsing.
Thank you and keep up the good work!!

I tried to install both on the phone memory and the memory stick - the plugin did not work both ways. I prefer memory stick installs and have it running that way right now. Is there any official advice on where to install or doesn't that matter?
Typing in multi-line forms is really slow. Landscape mode would be nice. I also wait for Opera Link but I that's on the to-do list and now that we have official builds I can easily wait for it. A more modern UI like on Win Mobile would be great, too, but probably not something that can easily enough be done on the P1i.
Besides that thanks so much for including UIQ phones in the new beta release. The Widget engine is cooool and finally I have a modern mobile browser with tabs, AJAX and password storage for the tasks that Opera Mini can't do. They are the perfect companions!

When I login to my bank, it asks me to choose few numbers from a little windows which popup.
It is supported by OperaMini 4.1, this one leads to a text field!!! In fact I cannot see my account!
So please include that.
Besides, Opera 9.5 is quite capable when comes to rendering. But mentioned lack of txt copy/paste is also a bummer.
Tuesday, 21. October 2008, 08:47:21
I missed that. But seems you can copy only what you see on screen and cannot drag it down/up. In opposition to 8.65.
I hope OperaTeam reads this forum???
Oh, and pitty Opera 9.5 does not keep connection (only Mini does).

one thing I'd like to suggest.. I can find the smooth scrolling feature on when the page is fully zoomed in (after tapping a portion of the website).. so my suggestion is it would be great to have the same feature while the page is zoomed out (before tapping)..
otherwise, great work and much appreciated

I would also like to see another feature of Opera Mobile 8.65 for S60, that is the option to only display cached images. This significantly reduces page load times (especially on slower GPRS connections) of pages that largely remain the same with only minor changes. It also obviously reduces data transfer. I find it most useful on message boards where avatars, smilies, buttons and other graphics all remain the same but only relatively small amounts of text change upon refreshing the page.
I still prefer SSR/mobile view over a full screen/desktop view and I'm pleased that is is working as well as ever

How does the wand (password autocomplete) works in Opera Mobile? I can save passwords like in the desktop version, but a "wand button on toolbar" is missing in the mobile version. I see an orange border on the login fields, meaning that there is a saved password for this page, but I cannot let Opera autofill it.
Help says that password fields will be autofilled when i zoom in, but it doesn't happen. There was a "Login" button (softkey - or menu item) in Mobile 8.65 which was working well. Any chance to have it back?

After opening like 5 pages (cache set for 6MB) Opera showed 'No memory" message.
I checked - it took about 30MB of RAM!! Without Widgets!!!
It also closed some apps in the background to make some memory free.
My phone usually has around 15 apps open and about 38MB free.
When I checked after some Opera usage, I had 10MB free and half of the apps closed!!
Scarry........

How on earth is that going to work? What would they remove? And if they had the possibility to make a "lite version", don't you think they would use that version on all phones instead of having both a lite and a bloated version?
Besides, you already have a "lite" version: Opera Mini

I would also like Opera Mobile 9.5 to remember which bookmarks folder it last used. I have noticed that 9.5 shares the default bookmarks folder with the preinstalled 8.65. This folder contains those annoying Sony Ericcson bookmarks that you cannot delete. I have created a new bookmarks folder for 9.5 that contains the bookmarks I want to have, not what SE force me to have. However when the application is exited and restarted it always jumps back to viewing all bookmarks, not the last selected folder. Alternatively 9.5 could have a completely seperate bookmarks directory than the preinstalled version 8.65.

After selecting "close" in Opera 9.5 it can still be found as an open running application in the task manager. Please have "close" do what it suggests it does (end and exit the application) or call it something else like "minimise" or "hide"
Hi 203,
Thanks for the input. Actually we considered having the close button exit Opera, but decided to stick to the default behaviour on UIQ as defined in their style guides. I agree that "close" is confusing though, we will have another look at that.

Hi ares07,
Sorry, but I cannot comment on the payment model for a final version on UIQ ... business sensitive info :-)

If you offer, I buy right now. If it becomes free, I will even buy support just like old timers of Opera desktop version. Shipping a working browser while everyone (incorrectly) thinks UIQ is dead deserves a lot.
I also think one of you Symbian guys explain the end users why Symbian going open source, S60 etc. doesn't exactly mean UIQ is dead especially after re-creation of touch screen fashion. I mean in a free time. I think people got confused a lot.
