How to Change Speed Dial Thumbnail Images

Hi. I changed the thumbnail images of my speed dial screen. It's annoying to look at tiny webpage images where nothing can be read at all! It's simple.

1. Go to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\profile\thumbnails.
2. Use an image editor such as Adobe Photoshop, and create thumbnail images of your choice at the size of 192x156 pixels.
3. 'Save As' the thumbnail images in your thumbnail folder. Remember to use .png format.
4. Restart Opera and see your Speed Dial screen come to life!

Thanks for the tip. I have heard that you should save them as 'Read only' to prevent updating in Opera...

Hi, I was wondering how you made your opacity to 0% for your speed dial. I'm really trying to get rid of the gray part of each tile.

What do you name the .png files as because it's not working at all for me. :frown:

The png files should retain their original name.

EXCELLENT! Worked like a charm! Now my Speed Dial looks as sharp as what you can get on the FireFox counterpart....and as always, on my computer, the screen draws faster than Firefox's.

We need a collection of these thumbnail images so those of use with less talent can have nice speed dials too p:

I can confirm this. After having spiffy looking thumnails last night, today they were all gone as Opera "updated" them and wrote over them with pictures of the web pages again. So today I took the images I made yesterday and write-protected them and copied them to the thumbnails directory again.

For those who don't know, you write-protect your images by right-clicking the file in Windows Explorer, click properties and there will be an option to make it read-only.

hi

I apologize for bringing life to such an old thread but where do you get your custom speed dial images from? I came across a website that lets you create and download other user-created images but now that I need it, I can't find the url. Homer: Doh!

Found it!

Please share if you know other resources.

I've been using Paint.net to edit my images. It has a wand which automatically selects an area and then you just delete it to get a transparent background. Getting a decent image is the hard part. It takes a bit of time but I found it fun.Opera.png

This is a great topic - I plan to get my png's all fixed up tonight right after work.

The reason I was poking around in this forum, though, has to do with the titles on the Speed Dial panels.
Does anyone know how to change those? I mean, USA Today reads, "News Weather, Enter..." I'd prefer
if I could just make that say USA Today. It seems that only Google and Opera do it right, so we have to work
around the gunk that less sophisticated web designers throw at us.

Thanks for any pointers.
