US '12 Presidential Update
For the benefit of all of those of us in Europe, Asia, Antarctica and elsewhere, that is, for everybody who doesn't hang feverishly on every flash event in the upcoming Presidential election here, those who do will post here from time to time with tidbits that might just well affect your well-being in terms of incineration, etc.
when I'm alone, I will look at them
shocked and just whisper quietly
"You can see me?"

Well, the champaigns take longer and longer - it's only logical that at some point they'll start before the previous election.

Just as a horrible sidenote: In the early 90s, polls showed that every sixth austrian felt that Austria should become a part of Germany... Kind of "Heim ins Reich."![]()
Let's see when the austrian catholic church canonizes Haider as St. Joerg

Nah, I agree with your Paul and Salma Hayek pick.
I doubt Dr. Paul will run again though. Perhaps Chuck Baldwyn and Salma Hayek?

A reopening in 2104 might be called for.
Who's running in 2104? I need to get a word in now because I don't think I'll be around then.
Will there be web browsers in 2104? Or an internet?

No. People will have nanomachines in them right below their ear. Have a look at Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for hints of what the future will be like...

That is true, but hey, he could run and get elected! Look at that old fart named Reagan!
Regardless of all that, (and maybe I'm counting far too many chickens before they hatch) I take pleasure in announcing that Rand Paul, Ron Paul's son, will be running for a Kentucky Senate seat. (Let's hope he can pull an Obama and run for President after only two years of being in the Senate)

Edit: "Disappointed soldiers in the Ron Paul Revolution, take heart. Your leader may have been defeated in '08, but He was not vanquished. For He hath given unto you a Son to continue His work. And He shall be called Rand Paul. And He shall run for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. And He shall have gloriously curly locks of salt-and-pepper hair that shall drip with the oil that shall fuel a libertarian uprising!"

Massive queues to register? I've never seen one. Long lines to vote, yes, but to register--not in my experience. When I moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, recently, I was automatically registered to vote when I took out a driver's license. Ohio might be different.
There used to be significant problems registering in some Southern states, but I think those days are gone.

Don't they have enough points to vote at? We don't seem to get that even in high polling and both countries are not that super in high percentages.
At the first Holyrood elections in 1999, 59% of Scots turned out to vote.
However, in some constituencies just four in 10 people used their vote.
The numbers who voted were equally low at the General Election two years ago - the lowest in any Westminster election since 1918, when women did not have the vote and many men had not returned from World War One.
Parts of Glasgow had particularly low turnout rates, with the Shettleston constituency the lowest at just 40.6%.

It entirely depends on what sort of election is being held, as almost certainly the case in Scotland.
The last national election here had a turnout of 61.7% of eligible voters, but for school board elections, the number might sink dramatically. Or it could be higher, depending on the issues involved. The variability among states in 2008 was considerable, ranging from over 78.5% in Minnesota, where most voters can read,to 50.6% in West Virginia, where most can't interpret the signs that say, "Vote Here."
Anybody who fails to vote "because the lines are too long" are liars in those areas where early voting is allowed, which is to say, the majority places in the U.S. Problems persist, though, as is the case in Scotland.

I doubt that.
They will undoubtedly need a centrist to even think about competing with Obama.

To out-Obama Obama? I think they'd rather whine & moan about 'socialism', Evil Liberals, terrorists etc. and send in another fire & brimstone fundie to get all the voters who drank the 'health' insurance mafia's cool aid.

My money is on Mitt Romney. Conservative enough for centrists, fiscally so, at any rate.
I'm still hoping for Palin, however. She's on the "death squad" bandwagon again. Gotta love the ditz.
Sarah Palin: The Pelosi Bill Was Rammed Through on Saturday, But Sunday’s Coming
..........
We had been told there were no “death panels” in the bill either. But look closely at the provision mandating bureaucratic panels that will be calling the shots regarding who will receive government health care.

Please run her, my Republican friends. She's good for the party...the democrats, that is.
What will Obama have to do to lose in 2012? I'm not sure, but he'd be a shoo-in if he'd call for a public hanging of the folks who gave us our economic 9/11.
And the news is worse than we imagined!
As indicated here.

Implement a carbon tax. Other than that, I see nothing that stands in his way for another term.

That will never happen.
Neither one of them will see the white house.
The Republicans lone shot at getting the White House is if the Republicans nominate Ron Paul.
Otherwise, it's

(By the way, I find it interesting that my state's Governor is probably going to run for the Repub nomination. Have things really gotten that bad?
