Opera Mini 4.2 beta feedback

As you all probably know by now, we just released Opera Mini 4.2 beta. We would like you all to send us some constructive feedback in this thread. Remember that bugs should be reported either via your phone (Menu -> Tools -> Help -> Bug report) or through the bug report wizard.

Thanks,
The Opera Mini team

notes r real nice improvement but im so disapointed [sad]
it seems just a 1-feature release (ignoring d skins). we hav such a great OPERA MINI WISHLIST thread n just 1 wish (skin) fulfilled!! n tat sumwhere down d line priority wise..
i was hoping to get performance , productivity n interface improvents after such delay in launching a new version such as better download manager or any of the thousands little but great features requested by the operamini users from around the globe..
well im really happy with the notes feature (although it could be more evolved to be really useful) but i wish myself and other opera-mini users and the opera-mini developers all the best for next time..
pesonally, m not thrilled with this release..mayb bcoz its a minor release..but then, the release cycle is soooooo long...

Hi, first I wanna thank for the best S60 browser to date, (I've also used Opera as my main pc browser for years now). My concern is that what happened to landscape mode? Theres no landscape enable/disable at Settings-screen anymore like in previous version im using (4.1.11320). Im using Nokia N82 and landscape worked before like a charm.

Sad to hear that. OperaMini could(should) exploit device capabilities supporting accesskeys W3C Recommendation. Some mobile web sites, following W3C Recommendations, already use and show accesskeys values to the user, but they are useless with OperaMini. This creates a bad user experience.

I'm an Opera Mini fan but sincerely every time I see a new release
it's always harder to find new features...

Sincerely I can't see new features in this release,
since skin in not a new fetures and the others are mostly a bug fixes or a small add instead of a new features...

Hope to see some really new features in the next release smile
Thanks Opera and have a good work.

@sblantipodi, manustays: stop whining about features, FFS! It's a minor release. What did you expect? It has a few new features. If you aren't happy with them and don't think they "count", tough. But stop whining about it. Stop being ungrateful, and stop demanding things.

1. I really want tabbed browsing... I don't understand how hard is it to implement this feature while some of the mobile browser is offering this feature already (eg. UCWEB, a J2ME app. from China). Perhaps there are some difficulties in tabpage management?

2. I am now testing OM 4.2 Beta on my SonyEricsson Z610i. Frankly speaking, when browsing a local forum (in Hong Kong S.A.R.), the response time is the same as when I am using OM 4.1; browsing other websites is fine, but there are still random freezing of loading progress.

3. I have tried browsing YouTube, it successfully passed the link to built-in media player, and I can watch video clips.

4. The skin is nice, I am using the black one.

Short summary: Not much improved when compared to OM 4.1, and I think there is still room for improvement for a beta product, especially when OM 4.1 has been released for a long time. Anyway, it is good to see the update from Opera!

As a minor release this is good. Editing long notes works just fine on my phone(nokia 5320).
Just cant figure out what was that popular wish that was fulfilled doh

I will test too!!
Two quick things:
1. Thanks for skins, silver is great!
2. When I set font to small, my native - polish - letters are still not supported.
Also, due to changes Hotmail made to their accounts, Hotmail is not possible to be seen.
Do you have any idea about it??

@manustays: how on earth does a couple of guys whining that the features they wanted didn't make it "help the product"? It won't. They are obviously not looking for pointless whining, they are looking for feedback on the actual version they released!

@Gundamdriver: what, because it doesn't add the features you won't, "not much is improved"? Laughable troll

Is there ever going to be actual text and pictures on the full page view? (I am using a Palm Treo 755 with JVM) The screen resolution supports it and makes viewing sites on full page mode useless unless its a site you visit often and know where everything is.

How about a smooth zoom in and zoom out feature?smile

I like the skinning feaure with the exception of the progress bar which is still red. Maybe a more neutral color or maybe one to match each skin?

I'll report back after some more usage. This is just first impression.

Keep up the good work. Even though Palm has abandoned us you guys are still makeing Opera mini for us.cheers

*EDIT*

I wasnt expecting this betas ability to perform the function of launching the media player to work, and to my surprise a youtube link opened up Kinoma Player for me on my treo!

I'm really impressed great work on that one.

It would be nice if when playing the video after it returns to Opera mini to put you at the page where you last left off though. Is it possible?

Some of the scrolling side to side displays are choppy and the menu seems to flicker on and off while scrolling to select an item.

Than you !
4.2 synched fine from 4.1
Skins are grat ! ( maybe you should use silver buttons (for shortcuts) on
the black skin - red ones are not so readable and are a little tacky smile )
I second request fot Notes shortcut on the main screen ( or in the menu )

@ariuszym - I think you should go to mini.opera.com/beta on your phone and download it with default browser.
You should see the link with "signitures" or something like that ...

@tranced - it is working fine for me ( SE P990 ).

edit : tranced,If you add a bookmark and assign it to a Speed dial position, it will not show in the main bookmark list. Look for it in the Speed Dial list.
