Opera Mini 4.2 beta feedback

As you all probably know by now, we just released Opera Mini 4.2 beta. We would like you all to send us some constructive feedback in this thread. Remember that bugs should be reported either via your phone (Menu -> Tools -> Help -> Bug report) or through the bug report wizard.

Thanks,
The Opera Mini team

Permissions disappear again, I mean on my P1i it still asks me for permissions, after just two times I used OM 4.2.
Why??

The having-to-click-twice-on-a-result-to-open-it problem on google search, is fixed! Thanks, Opera!

Once thing needed even in Opera Mini 4.1 is the ability to copy & paste. For example, often send myself mobile URLs I find using my desktop via SMS to my phone, then would like to copy & paste into the address field in Opera Mini. Likewise, I'd like to be able to copy links form Opera Mini to my phones clipboard for use elsewhere. While I'm at it, how about the ability to arbitrarily select any text on the page and copy it?

Ok ok. I'm not talking about 4.2 . Despite GoJoeGo's attitude, it's still a minor release and with ' no ' popular requested features available. So, where's the Opera 9.5 for S60 ? Forget not, Skyfire has come a long way and honestly, handles pages much better than Opera 8.65 or OM4.2 .

Tried the new Opera Mini Beta 4.2, once again, very disappointed that it crashed my Nokia E51 phone using Psiloc Font Magnifier! The original fonts on the E51 are way too small for this middle-age guy, no choice but to use Font Magnifier! If only the best web browser will take that into account, perhaps one day when another new version is released?

First of all, Thank you, Opera Mini Team for bringing out such a fine and innovative browser!

I'm pleased to report that 4.2 is working great on Esmertec Jbed/Windows Mobile 5/i-mate PDAL.

Feedback :
How about making the black skin the default? (after fixing the progress bar, of course.) It'd also be in tune with the default black skin in Opera (Desktop) 9.6.

Feature Requests:
1) How about adding a scroll-bar or automatic text scrolling in the 'Enter text' prompt? When typing long messages like this, the text becomes hidden after a screenful of typing and one can't see what they're typing. :|

2) An option to force-indentify the device as a handheld or desktop (just like in Opera Mobile) so that we may force a website to load the full/mobile version. (Eg: Orkut)

Opera mini 4.2 seemed the same with the previous version, except that you can change skin and can play video, but still uses the built in browser and uses the phone network instead of wlan when you are using the wifi. Hoping for more improvement..

@Gundamdriver: what, because it doesn't add the features you won't, "not much is improved"? Laughable troll

What? It is not expected to have new features? Cone on, read the wishlist.rolleyes

Opera Mini 4.1 has been released for a long time, I think it is normal for someone to expect new things in new release?

If no features are added, I do expect there are speed or stability improvement. Today I spent some time on reading RSS on Google Reader, when I tried to visit some articles posted on Digg, server timeout occured frequently, and I think the case is worse than OM 4.1. Do you call this an improvement?

I thanked the Opera team, but I just think they need to work harder on it.

What happens when you click on a link?
In my phone, it opens pocket IE with a link called "stream". Clicking it opens the video in my media player (CorePlayer). Maybe you should try installing CorePlayer if you don't have it already...

Hello I'm using Opera Mini 4.2 Beta on Nokia 6630 based on S60 2nd Edition FP2 platform, but Opera Mini still opens Real Player to play videos from Web (m.youtube.com). Is there any solution so that Opera Mini will itself play videos?
Also please try to add Tabbed Browsing in next beta of Opera Mini or atleast add transfer window as in Opera Desktop so that we can browse web pages without having to wait for Opera Mini to complete the transfer first. Also option to 'pause&resume' transfers will be nice to see.

Youtube videos doesn't work on my SE W910i. When I select a video I arrive at a black screen with VCR controls and the text "video" in the bottom left corner. No video or image is visible.

I still prefer using Opera Mini 3.1 because of the tab browsing feature.

Opera Mini 4.2
Fonts, I am so irritated on the font size.
When "mobile view" is not activated, the font size is too large for my 240x320 screen. When I set it to 'small' font size at the settings, it became too small.. :-( How about creating another font size option and change the 'small' to 'extra small' then between extra small and medium there is small. Now I will choose 'small' bigsmile

My suggestions:
Please enable also tables on mobile view and gif animations too..
Thanks... Opera Mini browsers still the best for me and my Nokia 5310 XM.

Sorry, but we're working on it. It seems to have disappeared for some strange reason. You could just flip your phone. That apparently works.

THANK U OPERA TEAM 4A GREAT FEATURE I JUST FOUND IN OM4.2!!

its a new option in opera-mini server-side configuration page..now we can see perfectly pages that use complex scripts (languages like chinese, arabic, hindi, etc.) on any mobile even if the phone doesnt support that font.
type 'opera:config' in address bar. in the page that opens, select 'yes' for the option - use bitmap fonts for complex scripts. click 'save' button at the and of page. now enjoy pages in any language!!

thank you OM team once again for this feature!!

NOTE:- although its a server-side feature and i dunno 4how long it has been provided so it will work even in older versions of opera-mini. and it will increase the data-usage while viewing pages with complex scripts. so people with limited data-plan should use it with care.

Anyway they kinda fuck up on this one. I had all my feeds in 4.1, which were synced and then I installed 4.2 and synced it, to realise my feeds weren't synced. Now i realized that the 4.2 deleted all my feeds in Opera Link and replaced them with the default feeds from 4.2. So now I don't have my feeds in 4.2 (which i never had), but also neither in 4.1, since 4.2 deleted my feeds from Opera link.

Thanks Opera....

Appears that Airtel( India) has blocked this 4.2beta too just like 4.1, for their 'net on phone' users. Though the service works well with OM 3. There is no such problem with bsnl, wap or gprs.

I haven't found any problems with 4.2 yet. My only comment is that the loading/progress bar is an odd colour in most of the skins. Especially the red bar in the Black skin. A very minor point though.

we've waited for so long but the new great features are only the 'cool' skins, a nice 'fast' new server, and video streaming.
well, how about
the multiple tabs? copy-paste? download manager? and all the really possible features that have been written in the big wishlist thread?

but thank you for this version release. this improvements is better than no improvement at all.

Hi there guys. new to forums - been using Mini 4.1 for some time now.

I just went to 4.2 and not sure if this has been mentioned, but it does not save my settings preferences.

I will change it to Font - Small and turn mobile view on and nothing happens. When I go out of mini and back in, neither is checked.

I am on a BB curve 8310 running OS 4.5.0.93

12. November 2008, 21:15:27

We need an option to choose how media links are passed outside of Opera Mini.

On my archaic LG8500, I can stream YouTube when the media player is started with the built-in browser through .

With Opera Mini 4.1, I can remove the http:// proxy part manually after it is forwarded to the built-in browser, and view the stream. With the new 4.2, the media player fails to start by Opera Mini, and the link is also unavailable to the built-in browser.

An option to choose how links are passed can easily resolve the problem.

Dear Opera team, please, have a look at new version of GMail for mobile phones.
They made Exit button to minimize application by default in Java version.

I have Opera running in background on my Sonyericsson K610 almost all the time.

It is always very annoing (with any Java application) to specificaly say on my device
that I dont wont to Close App but Minimize.

Thanks!
