Kruptos 2.0 is amazing. Great encryption software. I've using it for two years now. I love the way it allows you to work with your important files using Explorer's context menu.

- Opera is my "little browser that could". No matter how often I cheat on it, I always seem to come back home..
- AdMuncher Seriously best adblocker for Windows. Speeds page loading and worth EVERY penny.
- ATNotes freeware stickies for super quick reminders
- Foobar2000
- TheMasterList as my time/task manager. Different/quirky but worth the learning. Author very responsive.
- CCleaner
- KeePass Opensource password manager
- Picasa
- XXCopy for stable commandline backups
- Quicken (but looking for alternates, no online crap)

SmartFTP (best FTP client I have used, but sadly it's not free anymore)
WinSCP (best free FTP client I could find)
Trillian
Quassel (on linux)
VLC
GIMP

For me there is:

KatMouse
Proxomitron (with Sidki's filter set)

And above all:

PowerPro. Most useful program ever, but not easy to configure at the beginning. Very small footprint.

Never used Windows 7, so I don't know what its taskbar does, but I'm sure that something close to it can be scripted with PP. Not easy, though. I relay mainly on PP's mailing list at Yahoo Groups for complex stuff. There is very knowledgeable people there and the author is a regular.

I mainly use the program for launch stuff from the tray, roll windows to caption, keep track of browsed folders in my computer and clipboard entries, minimize to the tray, assign keyboard and mouse shortcuts and simple stuff like that. I'm no expert, so stuff like sending messages to windows and such is beyond me. Recently I made an old app without tray support tray aware so it starts, minimizes and closes to the tray and it was kinda hard but rewarding. It is a ver powerful utility.

Another very useful app to me is Locate32. It is a database-based search utility. It is a UNIX locate clone for Windows and with a GUI on top. It delivers inmediate search results once the database has been built.

For win95 you can download gdiplus.dll from the files section to use *.png's with transpanrency.
Then with some elbow grease and a lot of reading trough the help, you can do almost anything, here's some examples: (click images to expand)

(incomplete win7 taskbar with labels)

(minimalistic desktop)

the following is a LiteStep theme I'm porting to PowerPro which is 98% complete and as you can see, PowerPro enables us to have a lot of functionality + eye candy with a tiny footprint of ~1.7MB

I'd fully agree with skye11! I have XYplorer running ALL the time my system is active..well, except for the few moments when I'm installing a new beta vers of it, which is almost once a day! Yes, it's that actively developed. And as you can see by my profile, I maintain a user based blog of updates to this app.

I also use:
Irfanview and Picasa for images...
SyncBack for doing backups...
AceHTML for my HTML coding...
POP Peeper for checking email...
