Nokia 3600 issues starting Opera mini

Hi.

I have recently purchased a Nokia 3600 slide, which came with Opera mini on memory card.

I have been succesfully using Opera Mini on my old Nokia 6500 until it broke.

I have the settings from o2, which I saved and now have MMS, wap browser and all functionality 'except' Opera Mini.

Opera installs, but gives me the error 'failed to connect to the internet' when I launch it.

I appreciate is more of a mobile question, as it is prob how Opera tries to connect to the internet that is the issue. I have been through all the phone settings etc, and there is no obvious way to link Opera to the GPRS connection. Neither can I find an option on Opera to choose which access point to use.

Opera was brilliant on my last phone, and I really would appreciate any help from someone. There was a previous thread about an identical problem, but was locked before any replies due to poor thread title.

Info-Nokia 3600 slide, provider o2 (uk), pay as you go, 3G sim card (albeit in a 2G phone) plus latest Opera Mini version.

Here is hoping...

Thank you.

All you need to do is use the Phone menu option, Activate as Default in All Applications.

Many thanks for the answers.

I have changed all the settings etc, and set as default-Second poster-this has no effect.

The first reply was interesting, as yes, I cant edit an access point. Confuses me as to the next step. Any 'easier' way of putting it?

Damn annoying as the phone had Opera pre-installed on memory card.

Sorry, there's no "easier" way to set the proxy, the only way is to send the configuration file from a computer through bluetooth. I can create the configuration file for you if you want to have a try. Please give me the following information:
Provider:
APN:
Proxy:
Port:
User name: (if needed)
Password: (if needed)

You don't need a proxy for O2-UK, the O2 supplied settings work fine. (Note, this didn't used to be the case, until the latter part of last year an http proxy was needed.)

Can you tell us what appears under the following settings:

In SETTINGS>CONFIGURATION, what appears next to 'Default config. Sett' and what appears next to 'Preferred Access pt.'

Different service providers in different countries use different internet settings, so you can't use the configuration files I created for other service providers.

I have created the configuration files for Smart Philippines according to the infoemation you provide.

APN:smart1 Port:8080 http://sorrytesting.googlecode.com/files/smart8080.prov
APN:smart1 Port:9201 http://sorrytesting.googlecode.com/files/smart9201.prov
APN:internet Port:8080 http://sorrytesting.googlecode.com/files/internet8080.prov
APN:internet Port:9201 http://sorrytesting.googlecode.com/files/internet9201.prov

Thanks for answering. Sure........

Settings/config......Default config. Sett = Prepay (when pressed only other option is o2)

Prefferred access point= My access point.

Pers config sett=My access point. When I press this I get..........

Account name = My access point.

Access point settings gives:

data bearer = packet data (when pressed only other option is GSM data)
Bearer settings when pressed gives:

Packet data acc.pt. =internet...no option to change, only change name.
Network type=IPv4
Authentication Type=Normal
User name = Payandgo
Password=Password (set by me according to o2 setts)

And thats it sad

That's your problem, you have the wrong settings. The packet data acc. pt should be payandgo.o2.co.uk.

I would delete your settings and have O2 send them to you. (Either from the website or use the Get Settings option in the O2 Menu on your phone) When they arrive make sure to say Yes to the prompt to activate all settings.

Hi.

Have done that loads of times. (get settings etc)

All this does is set you up for mms, wap etc.

I deleted everything, and used get settings-it calls itself PREPAY, not what you thought it would say. (.co.uk etc).

However, this has no 'influence' on access point settings, that Opera is looking for. Only O2 Wap browser rubbish etc.

Thanks for answering though. BTW, O2 UK does not support this model of Nokia...Not sold by them. I bought it unlocked, brand new. As O2 do not support it is that maybe why?

If the proxy is not needed, you can just add the access point manually on the phone using personal configuration. As far as I know, most service providers and nokia just send you the settings for phone's built-in browser and MMS, access point is not included.

If that doesn't work, then I think you do need a proxy for the access point, try my method to set up the access point.

judedon, would you kindly make me a .prov file as well? I have repeatedly attempted to create my own using a .wml file and the xml2wbxml.exe software with no success. It imports the settings successfully but still the java apps report that they have no Internet connectivity. Perhaps I am doing something wrong...

judedon> would you be pls. so kind and try to make profile for Nokia 3600slide and my particular situation, I'm not sure I got all the necessary info though? It's kind of confusing, there is no info about proxy etc. provided?! Czech branch of T-mobile GPRS pages:
http://t-mobile.cz/Web/Residential/Internet/NastaveniGPRSVTelefonu.aspx
(they list proxy and port only for WAP not for GPRS)

APN: internet.t-mobile.cz
Primary DNS: 62.141.0.1
Secondary DNS: 213.162.65.1

--
Btw. my older Siemens phone still works great with Opera Mini (4.1) and the following settings (few years old by now):
And I didn't have to know/set proxy, port and such things..

APN: internet.t-mobile.cz
Primary DNS: 62.141.0.1
Secondary DNS: 62.141.0.2

Thank you very much for your help

Hi Mesuge! I visited the linked page you provide, there seems to be two different APNs, wap.t-mobile.cz and internet.t-mobile.cz. The first one uses a proxy and second connects directly. If it is included in your data plan, you can use the "internet.t-mobile.cz" APN in access point setting, so there is no need to set the proxy, no need to use the provision file, and if you are only allowed to use the "wap.t-mobile.cz" APN, I can make a configuration file for you.

Hi judedon, thanks for your kind and fast response, anyway I sorted that out by deleting all the older and default setups/configs and played with filling the "internet" word inside the APN tab, which was not making sense to me in the begining since I was accustomed to other format with DNS. Now it works, however, shame on Nokia and telcos/operators, who don't document this workaround as much as they should..

What worked for me (finally):
I have a Nokia 3600 Slide running software version 4.86 RM-352
My issue was that the Internal browser worked fine but none of the JAVA Applications (Opera, Gmail) would connect to the Internet. They were able to initiate a GPRS connection (the little "G" appears in the upper left), but still no connection.

I finally got it working by going into my Settings>Configurations>Default Config. Sett. menu, deleting everything listed. Then I used the following config file, changing only the Proxy IP, Port, and Username/Password. (I don't have cingular, but I just left the name, it doesn't matter) I'm honestly not sure if the bottom section "APPLICATION" did anything or not. I sent it to another mobile phone, then bluetoothed it back to the 3600 slide, and it imported the settings successfully. Then I had to go back in to Settings>Configurations, and select Act. Def. in all Apps. Then everything worked fine! So don't give up, I've been working on this for weeks, but this finally worked.

The following is the WML file I used, before I converted it to a .prov file using "xml2wbxl -o NokiaJAVAProxy.prov NokiaJAVAProxy.wml"
(you must have the app xml2wbxml.exe):

Greetings.

I've got Nokia 3600 slide too.
I've tried everything to make opera mini work (either the preinstalled v4 or the newer v5)
but both give the error 'failed to connect to the internet' when I launch it.

So I'd like please a configuration file for (I hope that these are enough/suitable):

Provider: WIND GPRS
Data bearer: Packet data
Access point name: gwap.b-online.gr
User name: wap
Password: wap
Authentication: Normal
Network type IPv4
Proxy server address: 192.168.200.10
Proxy port number: 9401

@ Newdarkblue - Have you defined Java network settings as well? It's already explained somewhere around here, and I can't remember how it's done on Nokia S40 phones, but what you need to do is make sure the Java applications use the same network settings as the built-in browser does.

@serola-For s40 phones, you need a provisioning document (.prov) to run java apps.
You can create .prov file at http://myprov.co.cc but the site is not opening so im unable to create the file for newdarkblue.

"Bandwidth Limit Exceeded", which means you may be able to use it again in next month (tomorrow). Too many people have visited the site during March, thus causing the exceeding of monthly limit.

EDIT: Though there must be some other way confused This .prov file thing sounds really akward bigeyes

No, but if the reason is what I suspect, then that should be the case. When you rent a Web server to run some service, you are limited by "bandwidth limit". In practise it means amount of bytes downloaded during the month. For example if you put a high quality video on your server, and it suddenly comes very popular (many people download it), you will soon exceed the "bandwidth limit". Somewhat missleading term, I know, when it's actually more about the monthly amount of data allowed to be transferred.
