Speed Dial doesn't work over #9

I'm loving that we can use speed dial now greater than just 1-9. However, I have it set so there are 12 and 10-12 do not work when typing them into the address bar. I can click on them from the speed dial page, but that makes the feature basically useless. I can type 1 or 2 into the address bar and go to my speed dials as usual. But if I type 10 or 11 it tries to go to http://0.0.0.10 etc. Anyone else seeing this?

Looks like this is a bug, and one that should be fixed. Please file a bug report, and submit the bug number back to this thread.

typing 12 only returned an error for me...
You tried to access the address http://0.0.0.12/, which is currently unavailable
I tested 10 and 11 and they worked fine.

Obviously resolved. I'm surprised; but not in a "bad" way… (Pretty fast response, eh?) But I never expected typing a Speed Dial number into the address field to "launch" that associated URL. I fear we're approaching the circumstance where –when we type something– we'll be disappointed, when the software doesn't guess what we meant.

Folks, please remember: Every time you don't have to say what you mean is someone else's chance to say what you meant. You can't always take it back.

can't say it's anything of an improvement if I've got to type a number in my address bar to open a page...
the options of Ctrl+1-9 is much quicker so for me that's how it will stay...
I can open my bookmarks and click on my link by the time I've typed my number in and hit the enter key.
sure I can have the speed dial open constantly but I still prefer my quick keys to open my desired page.

Ctrl + number is really very practical.

The only thing that's missing to make it perfect is something like Ctrl + Shift + number to make a speeddial entry open in a new tab smile

Shiftless: In Preferences… > Advanced > Tabs, uncheck Reuse current tab; and, in opera:config's User Prefs, check New Window

Thank you, but that has pretty unwanted side effects.

E.g. when I open 1 tab and then choose a bookmark from personal bar, a new tab is opened instead of the current tab.
So in fact I do want to reuse current tab.

btw: what exactly is "New window" setting? The name is not very clear...

EDIT: OMG, checking "New Window" in opera:config is apparently the same as UNchecking "Reuse current tab" bigeyes

Please, change that, as it's really really bad UI design!

Set the Enable Drag value in User Prefs in opera:config to 255, instead of the default value of 247… Then drag&drop bookmarks from Personal bar to current page to open there; click to open in a new page.

This strikes me as so natural that I've forgotten what it was like, before… For example, the arrow in a circle that has <http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?mode=last&id=278542> as its address: Click, tug (i.e., drag just a bit) and drop, opens the last post in a new tab; for links anchored by text, tug down a bit…

Oh, thank you, didn't know about that Enable Drag pref, and still don't really understand it.
Gonna do a little search to find out what it's actually for...

However, I'm afraid those changes would alter my browsing habits more than I want them to be altered right now,
so I'll keep it in memory but not apply it for now.

But thank you anyway!

Will try to get the easier approach with custom key shortcuts to work

Understood. I can only say, try it: you'll like it!
But I definately agree, the New Window setting in User Prefs via opera:config is less than perspicacious…

Once upon a time, documentation would include the effects of various combinations of bit-values for such things…

I'll certainly give it a try, just not now smile

Any idea where I can report this "New window madness"?

Hmm, yes, a better explanation of some settings in general would be really appreciated.

I've just encountered this exact bug in 10.00b2 build1615. using ctrl+9 works, but entering 9 in address line goes to http://0.0.0.9.

I'm using 10 beta 2 b.1631. On my primary machine, Opera shows 12 speed dial links, as it should, where on the site and on my other machine there can be seen 9 only. Changing the showing total links to 12 on the secondary machine gives you 9 correct and 3 empty ones...cry
