New Opera Unite services

First of all, for all users who believe that Opera Unite is just the small group of services included in the Beta: open your eyes. Those are only a small demo of what YOU can develop with Opera Unite.

Opera Unite is a platform with its own API, and very easy to deploy Web applications. Installing services is like using c-panel but a thousand times easier, for those tech guys that have used c-panel.

Now, I want this thread to be used for posting your ideas about new Opera Unite services (I will try to implement them of course, but feel free to try and best me).

This is my take on the suggestions:

A presentation tool
This is a powerpoint-like or google-presentations-like application where you can edit, publish and use your presentations from Opera Unite using any browser.
Bonus points: if using Opera to see the presentation tool, normal mode should let you edit your presentations, and fullscreen mode (F11) should use Opera Show to use your presentation in a conference.

A survey or exam tool
This is a tool to edit and publish survey or exams, with single, multiple or open questions. Users of the service can take exams, and the publisher of the service can see reports about the exams.

A to-do list
It's good to be able to see your to-do list from anywhere! Also, this could be expanded to be an issue-tracker.

A personal accounting tool
Keep your finances in Opera Unite (password protected, of course)

I wouldn't trust publishing my accounts to the Internet...

it would be nice to see a forum put together, that supports custom styling [external CSS files]. something that can be easily added to the web-server, maybe allow users to point to an image or type some text, then generate the HTML for them. just to make it a ridiculously lazy thing to set up and include.
I'm guessing you could use XML to sort the categories and headings or use a real database...

i think it would be nice, even if it was a custom server side API for Unite, to have basic add/edit/delete interaction functioning with databases, though XML is supported, and with enough JavaScript prowess AJAX can be used to do some good stuff. probably even make a forum board running entirely off AJAX, without the need for dynamic server side technology. just a heap of JavaScript to edit the XML and drive it from there...
I don't think i could do that by myself, but i would be willing to help anyone wanting to try it?

For the To-do list you could use the Notes panel in Opera and Link ( the synchronization feature of Opera ) to synch your notes across devices/installs

Decentralized Unite Discovery Service (DUDS p )

DUDS would basically let you list other Unite servers that you find interesting and share that list with others. Each Unite server in the list may be rated based on Personal Preference, Speed, and Uptime. Each Unite server's service may also be rated. For example, if a server has an active lounge, decent music, but horrid photos, you can assign 5, 3, and 0 stars respectively. A short comment may be added for each server.

Someone accessing your DUDS via HTTP will see your list of Unite servers, ratings, and their available services. A services and ratings filter would be available for easy browsing.

DUDS would periodically check your Share list and note if those Unite servers are up or down. These checks could be used to automatically generate an Uptime rating.

If a Unite server on your share list is also running DUDS, then your DUDS will add the remote DUDS' share list to your local Discovery List.
You can then browse your Discovery list to see if any are fit to be on your share list, kept on the Discovery List as "maybes," or blocked from future consideration.

If two DUDS servers discover that they are each others' Share List, those servers are marked as Mutual DUDS.
Optional: Notifications can be sent out to Mutual DUDS with certain events (starting up, shutdown, updates to Share List, etc).

Optional: If you wish to allow wider discovery, DUDS will send out your Discovery List if another DUDS requests it.

To prevent overzealous use of CPU or bandwidth, limits can be placed upon frequency and quantity of share list checks and requests.

Note: Share List could be implemented as just a specialized view of Discovery List.

Would this be a viable idea, or would it be a dud? bigsmile

Something to allow multisource downloads between other Unite users.

Yeah, a password safe like Keepass would be great.
So you can save all your passwords in one place.
It should be compatible with Keppass' database format.
