What did you think you were getting? It's an Alpha build. Its far from being released as a stable product. Its currently out for testing.
Companies release software for testing like this so that problems, such as the ones currently being experienced with Unite, can be worked out before they release it to the world as a finished product.
I disables the upnp option and forwarded port 8840, with no result.

It's a real turn off, I have just made Opera my default browser for the first time in a long while and then this had to happen. I hope they fix it soon because I'm feeling like ditching again
Maybe in the future you should stay away from beta's if you can't handle the bugs.

Yes we are, the cause is some bugs still present on the proxy, the solution is just waiting until we have a final version working with no major bugs, sorry for not being that helpful but we just need to wait until all problems with the proxy are figured out.
Making the browser "open" is not some magic way to increase market share. If that were true the myriad of open source browsers out there would all be swimming in users.
Anyway, this is not the thread to talk about this.

I'm surprised how a product deemed to be in the Alpha stage has nothing for users to report bugs. Opera need to make the browser open, if even a little bit and watch market share go up and up
You can report bugs here: http://bugs.opera.com/wizard
Opera is opening up the browser, just this week the Scope specification was released along with all DragonFly sources under BSD http://my.opera.com/dragonfly/blog/scope-protocol-specification

Hi Antonio . . . thanks for the quick reply, and I second the thought that Unite is a great product worth waiting for, and one for which we should all thank those who have conceived and made this project a reality. It is an idea that should have existed long ago.
All that said, I was wondering if you have any notion of the likely time frame we're looking at, from here to beta to final reliable release?

I really have no idea since I'm not the one that's working on the proxy, it's not even within my departement.

Hey, this isn't the first time I'm using an Alpha build product, my comment comes across as frustration because I like Unite services but above everything else I understand what's going on so be still.
going to home.szelmek.operaunite.com works from opera only other browsers (ff3, midori) gives 503 or "Connection Interrupted The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."
Tried to play with UPnP , restarting everything etc. localhost:8840 works of course. Also, I have forwarded port 8840 and still nothing.

I got the latest 1631, trying and posting from Berlin, Germany ...John D Barnett.
unfortunately it seems that either the proxy is still down
OR
my works security is getting in the way.
I get the 503 error when attempting to connect to my opera services and my opera unite status is "Web server error: Unable to communicate with the proxy server. Network may be down."
It might be nice to have a simple webpage to show us the actual real state of the opera unite proxy so that we don't have to play this guessing game.
