Does the problem persist if you restart Opera and the Unite service?

What's happened??

Same here. Whether I'm trying to access other users content, access my own using Opera or FireFox or asking friends to access my content, it's either a 503 message or a connection interrupted.

Sunday, 28. June 2009, 10:24:48

I have had the same issues as above...for me the service is very unstable. Sometimes it works with no problems but then other times it won't even start up. I hope it gets more stable in the future otherwise I won't be using it!

Same here. It's a pity, I just spread the word (and my unite-address) among my friends. They report back complaining that they can't reach me. :frown:

Yep, having the same problem. I actually haven't gotten Opera Unite to work once since I started trying. It looks and sounds useful. Too bad it doesn't work.

Just worked here a few times running webserver. Then went to saying 404 and then 503 again. Something very broken with proxies I think !

Looks like part of the problem is the proxies are very slow to allocate you a connection. Once you dont alter unite services for a while things been to work here for me at least

It's a real turn off, I have just made Opera my default browser for the first time in a long while and then this had to happen. I hope they fix it soon because I'm feeling like ditching again

Friday, 3. July 2009, 15:30:01

Yep same thing, has been from the start, just about ready to dump the whole shebang ! What is a surprise is that Opera would actually release such a clearly flawed product. But hey what do you want for nothing ? Your money back ?

What did you think you were getting? It's an Alpha build. Its far from being released as a stable product. Its currently out for testing.

Companies release software for testing like this so that problems, such as the ones currently being experienced with Unite, can be worked out before they release it to the world as a finished product.

I'm encountering the same issue. Anyone from the Opera development team paying attention to this problem? If so, what is the cause and what is the solution?

Friday, 3. July 2009, 19:59:35

I'm having the same problem. The status of unite is "Opera Unite error: The Opera Unite proxy server is currently not reachable. The network may be down."

I disables the upnp option and forwarded port 8840, with no result.

Maybe in the future you should stay away from beta's if you can't handle the bugs.

Yes we are, the cause is some bugs still present on the proxy, the solution is just waiting until we have a final version working with no major bugs, sorry for not being that helpful but we just need to wait until all problems with the proxy are figured out.

I'm surprised how a product deemed to be in the Alpha stage has nothing for users to report bugs. Opera need to make the browser open, if even a little bit and watch market share go up and up

Saturday, 4. July 2009, 01:27:40

The bug report form isn't hard to find. And the suggestion from Opera is to check these forums to see if the bug has already been reported. Unite has its issues and a quick browse of the forums makes it clear that the issues are known about. It just takes patience whenever you are dealing with any Alpha level software. I'm as anxious to see this work as anybody else. But, at least the browser itself is still solid even without the Unite proxy running correctly yet.

Making the browser "open" is not some magic way to increase market share. If that were true the myriad of open source browsers out there would all be swimming in users.

We need a bug report form withing the browser which can be accessed from the Help menu. Most of the open source browsers in the wild are not solid enough like for example Firefox and Chrome, so the lack of users is expected. Opera is very solid, has many features, been around along time yet not much is showing for all the hard work. I love Opera Widgets, but seriously they are not enough, people move to Firefox because they have allot more options, the add-ons make it so and they are easier to use than Opera Widgets.

Anyway, this is not the thread to talk about this.

I have exactly the same problem and I don't care. When they get this right it will be the solution to a requirement I have had for a long time. The fact that they are attempting to provide this solution is enough for me to want to stay with it, they will work the bugs out eventually. Well done the Opera team, keep at it

You can report bugs here: http://bugs.opera.com/wizard
Opera is opening up the browser, just this week the Scope specification was released along with all DragonFly sources under BSD http://my.opera.com/dragonfly/blog/scope-protocol-specification

Hi Antonio . . . thanks for the quick reply, and I second the thought that Unite is a great product worth waiting for, and one for which we should all thank those who have conceived and made this project a reality. It is an idea that should have existed long ago.

All that said, I was wondering if you have any notion of the likely time frame we're looking at, from here to beta to final reliable release?

I really have no idea since I'm not the one that's working on the proxy, it's not even within my departement.

Hey, this isn't the first time I'm using an Alpha build product, my comment comes across as frustration because I like Unite services but above everything else I understand what's going on so be still.

Just a quick note that it still happens to me today.

going to home.szelmek.operaunite.com works from opera only other browsers (ff3, midori) gives 503 or "Connection Interrupted The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."

Tried to play with UPnP , restarting everything etc. localhost:8840 works of course. Also, I have forwarded port 8840 and still nothing.

Even when the yellow exclamation point tells you that Opera Unite is not active Unite stays reachable with help of DynDNS from everywhere. I myself found the hints to DynDNS within this forum.

Yuppie...it's already running for ~5 Minutes, which is about 35 times longer then the time it worked in total during the last days. May I dare to spread my unite-links again?

Down for me either. Nothing works ... :frown: I got the latest 1631, trying and posting from Berlin, Germany ...

Friday, 10. July 2009, 07:54:57

I am having the same problem here also, I am using Comodo Internet security and also Open DNS . I can't see any problem with Comodo however I am unsure where it would show Comodo is stopping this service also not found any report on open dns that says it is blocking the server.

I got the 503 error (nor server available) whenever I launch the http link for Filesharing for instance from Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer. But it works fine from Opera itself...

edit: running the latest 1631 build.

I was having the 503 too and then I shut off The Lounge, and I could finally view the initial page. In opera I could use the long URL with the password at the end, and in IE only worked with the shorter URL. After that it was not posible to open folders or download files on either of the browsers. Very unstable.

Just downloaded opera unite and was initially very excited and eager to show my non opera using friends....

unfortunately it seems that either the proxy is still down

OR

my works security is getting in the way.

I get the 503 error when attempting to connect to my opera services and my opera unite status is "Web server error: Unable to communicate with the proxy server. Network may be down."

It might be nice to have a simple webpage to show us the actual real state of the opera unite proxy so that we don't have to play this guessing game.
