We have 4 kb worth of client side storage (kookie) and 400 MB of cache and 500 GB disks.

It seems inevitable (at least here in the USA) that Internet Usage Bandwidth Caps are going to be instituted by the cable ISP's. Sadly, some of the caps they are proposing are quite low, such as 5 or 10 GB a month.
Unfortunately, that means that more needs to be done by browsers, and other Internet enabled applications to allow the user some visibility and control over how and when they use bandwidth.
We embed all kinds of media into web pages, downloaded from servers without any means of validating the file or protection from terrorists, pirates and gangsters (haha)
This costs big money for everyone involved, this while we already paid for everything, then Opera deletes the very files I downloaded.
Lets start with: Why ask me anything if I want to download a file? (torrent) I was even made to click on a link already, what is the big deal? Should I be scared?
I'm not buying any of the excuses.
"Yes, but this was how we got conditioned to claim things should work back in the 90's, so it should work that way, forever!"
If we can have client side sql injections we darn well can have torrents load embeded web content. We can keep every video/pdf/mp3 and html file offered via torrent networks. We can assign a few kbit of client side upstream bandwith for seeding. And bob is your uncle!
We are not cheap, the corporations are cheap. They are suppose to be that way and they are suppose to take away everything from people that they do not care about.
Everyone sits on Youtube and a hand full of other video websites, this is not because youtube is so cool but because the browsers are so screwed up. I want millions of videos on my homepage and pay nothing extra for it! I've already paid for the internets! Why refuse me this?
Should not do it for me, do it for the millions of children (pirates) who are being hunted down for having 3 seconds of copyrighted music in their video. Google cant help it, they are responsible for that what they have on their server. All they can do is delete the material.
But as the few big video sites are the only ones who can actually afford to host and stream such amounts of data the recording industry is having a field day.
They are not after the copyrights, they want to own the entire industry again and it is working! A 4 kb kookie is definitely not enough. There is no real-world motivation to download the same video file every time one visits the same page. Ahhh, and now we cant even get a proper open source video format for the web because everything is copyrighted. If we keep up this paragdm Adobe will own the internet sooner or later.
There is nothing sexy about browsing though hundreds of folders with hundreds of videos. More retro things cant possbly get.
It should be managed by the browser, and it isn't even hard? Is it?
The only problem I can see is when 2 different sites want to use the same file name the hash will fail and Opera can add an exeption to a very tiny database. All problems salved, we now have hundreds of gigabytes of fully functional cache that can scale with future storage technology.
Forget about what other browsers do, people can all download Opera and run it on every OS - to suggest other browsers should lead the way is nothing more than an excuse not to use Opera. Should leave that kind of thinking to non users.
Torrent support and Unite are already revolutionary but it needs to be implemented to work just as smoothly as accessing old skool servers.
I want to post only this on my homepage:
<embed src="http://h.gabydewilde.operaunite.com/file_sharing/content/STEAL_THIS_FILM_____TRIAL_EDITION.4729001.TPB.torrent" type="video/quicktime"></embed>
NOT this:
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8yIk8j4i-4s" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" ></embed>
I like youtube but I don't want them to own my interenet - because it is all mine!
Let me put it another way:
After walking messegners we had this:
1860Then we had this:
telegraph battery wagon Then we had this (US 350299)
Amos Emerson: 1885
Stubblefield radioWhich incidentally worked using Earth batteries.
stubblefield radio earth batteryThen came the Tee Vee

After that things got even more ugly...

then in 2009.....

Is the universe saved already?
