Your Opera Unite Stories - How do you use Unite?
Since we launched Opera Unite, I've published two articles ( http://labs.opera.com/news/2009/06/16/ and http://my.opera.com/unite/blog/2009/08/19/getting-behind-the-vision-further-opera-unite-concepts ) looking at the future of the technology, but I'm starting this thread to discuss a slightly different topic, which is:How are you using Opera Unite right now?
Granted, we know that the existing Unite services are far from perfect, and the basic infrastucture has already been tweaked numerous times to fix various issues. That said, the services are still usable, and we're curious how you're using them. I have another blog post in the works to discuss some of the ways I'm currently using Opera Unite, but I'd love to include real-life examples from you, my fellow My Opera community members!
Some questions (you don't have to answer them all):
1. Which Opera Unite services have you tried and liked the most? What are some of the ways you've been using your favorite services?
2. Who have you been sharing/connecting/communicating with via Opera Unite? Were they impressed, and have they been motivated to download and try Opera Unite themselves?
3. Have you helped anyone else set up or use Opera Unite on their computer? If so, please describe.
4. Have you had friends access your Opera Unite shares via non-Opera browsers? If so, please describe.
5. Have you tried accessing Opera Unite shares via mobile phone or other devices? If so, please describe.
6. How has Opera Unite made your life easier in any way? Is there anything you're doing now (with Opera Unite) that you weren't doing online before?
7. Are there any unusual/unorthodox ways you've used Opera Unite?
Thanks in advance! I really look forward to hearing how you use Opera Unite. With a better understanding of what people do with this technology, we (and third party developers) will be able to design more useful services with the features you need. And keep those bug reports coming (use https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/ )!

Just to clarify, the purpose of this thread is to get examples of what people are doing successfully with Opera Unite.
Please feel free to use other threads on this forum for complaints about unresolved issues or discussions regarding what Unite can't do that you want it to do.

1. Which Opera Unite services have you tried and liked the most? What are some of the ways you've been using your favorite services?
Currently File Sharing, Media Player and File Upload are my favorites. I also use Webserver and Photo Sharing, but more for fun than for a real reason.
The Media Player service seems to be the most polished, but it lacks support for filetypes other than mp3. Music sharing with my friends is currently one main purpose of Unite for me.
File Sharing and Upload are used as a dropbox for data I want to share with friends or myself at work.
2. Who have you been sharing/connecting/communicating with via Opera Unite? Were they impressed, and have they been motivated to download and try Opera Unite themselves?
Mostly real life friends. Most of them liked the idea when I told them about it, some have already downloaded Opera and started using it, others want to wait for a release quality build. Some where indeed impressed, but some moaned about the service not working correctly.
3. Have you helped anyone else set up or use Opera Unite on their computer? If so, please describe.
I did with several friends. Setting up Opera is not the problem. But getting a Unite build that has actually working services is. So I told them which build to use (1708 was the best so far) and gave them tips for best settings.
4. Have you had friends access your Opera Unite shares via non-Opera browsers? If so, please describe.
Yes, mostly Firefox I think. I only had complaints yesterday, when a 180mb .zip download from me ended as a 17kb .html at my friends Firefox for some unknown reason.
5. Have you tried accessing Opera Unite shares via mobile phone or other devices? If so, please describe.
Yes, streaming music from my pc to my iPhone works just fine. This could by the way be one great use for Unite as it skips the limits of mobile memory capacities.
6. How has Opera Unite made your life easier in any way? Is there anything you're doing now (with Opera Unite) that you weren't doing online before?
Unite makes life easier as it takes away the need to copy files to memory-sticks, discs or whatever I used to use for file sharing with friends or taking data with me.
I wouldn't say I'm doing things I didn't before though. I just do them in another way.
7. Are there any unusual/unorthodox ways you've used Opera Unite?
I don't think so.
In a recent Unite-Blog post there was the idea to watch movies together with friends, with everyone at his own home. For some time, there will probably not be the upload bandwidth needed for this, but I already missed a feature like that for music (where it would be possible). I meet with friends in skype quite often in the evenings and a possibility to listen to music together would be fun. I would really like a music sharing service, where the admin can decide what music is streamed to the clients. A service like that should also have a possibility to control the music volume at the clients as for example skype doesn't have a volume control on it's own so the global volume of the pc is not going to help when using them together.

I make my twitter client. Only access from local Opera. Access over 20 times per day.

I also tried d.i.z's UJS Manager.

It's amazingly good.
