importing address book from thunderbird (ldif)?
Hello: I have searched this forum & looked at the tutorial and not yet found this issue addressed. I want to import only my address book from mozilla thunderbird. I've already exported it as an .ldif (and can instead export it as a .csv if nec). But how do I import it to opera 10 (win), just the address book ("contacts"), not all my emails? Thanks.Opera can only export-import Contacts in adr format. To convert other formats, go here http://operawiki.info/OperaTools and search 'mail tools'.
Hello,
I have the same problem an cannot import contacts into Opera 10. On the link I found only Dawn which is a tool for windows. Is there available a conversion tool for linux too?
Regards
Peter

Thank you, I did as a replier suggested & went to the opera wiki & typed in "mail tools" in the "opera tools" window. This led to nothing I found on exporting/converting .csv or .ldif to .adr, but there were a lot of entries (only one if I put "mail tools" in quotes, but no answer there). Is there a specific entry in the "mail tools" [no quotes] that applies? Thanks
Dawn is the tool, but I clicked the links now too, it seems to be unavailable now.

Ok, this is a big usability issue for me. The lack of ability to convert or otherwise import into Opera 10, my address book from thunderbird, prevents my investigating further a real use of Opera. I have, as most do, thousands of names in my address book and using Opera is not something I'm going to spend time on if the Opera developers haven't allocated time yet on this obvious need, as I see it. (Yes, I know I could export mozilla.org address books to .csv or .ldif in linux, work in opera in linux & see what the fields are in .adr, make a script ... you see where this is going and I ain't gonna do).
I've also checked on security issues with Opera, & while I haven't yet checked with the professional web wizard living next door, my initial conclusion is that Opera is no better at security than FF, and may be worse (neither is great; no browser is particularly "good" at security, despite the IE8 hype). So I've effectively written off Opera yet again. They've fixed a lot of usability issues and the interface is sharp & clean. But the competition is killer, mozilla shredder is very, very good and the only advantage of Opera I see (disregarding the .adr conversion prob.) is the AIO convenience with the panels making things simple.
