Opera 7.20 beta 11 for windows w/Google "Rads"
Here: (build 3118)[url]http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/ow32enen720b11.exe
Most visible change:
- Unregistered users have the choice between two types of ads:
1. Normal generic ads, like before
2. Text-ads from Google that are relevant to the currently visited page
If you choose the new format you will get text-based ads from Google that are relevant to the content of the page you visit. The currently visited page URL is used for finding the best ad and corresponding related searches. Google and Opera are committed to protecting the privacy of our users, and more information about the system (and the measures we take to protect you) can be found at:
[url]http://www.opera.com/adsupport/
Please surf around a bit with the new Google ads and see if you like them more than the old ones! They also take up less space on smaller screens
Other changes since beta 10:
Display:
- Fixed CSS first-letter problem
- Another fix for ideographic space
- position:relative causes float to not move line boxes
- getComputedStyle: Height/width and inherit fixes
- getComputedStyle: vertical-align property fixes
- CSS: first-letter fix
- Q and A fix for links in XML
- Made JavaScript triggered popup windows with IMG content work
- Fixed charset detection for generated content
- Fix for not returning inherit as a border-style value in gCS
- Embed was not represented by HTML element. Embed with liveconnect now works as applet and object
.. and a number of smaller fixes
Handheld/SSR:
- WML anchors now navigable again
- Setting correct LayoutMode when switching from SSR to handheld. Also switch to handheld for WML documents
JavaScript:
- Added option for allowing script to receive right clicks.. defaults to off
- Wait for currently executing inline scripts to finish before actually stopping when window.stop() is called
- Don't trigger ONMOUSEOVER events when re-highlighting current element
Other:
- Turning off support for Content-Disposition: Attachment until it has been more tested and tuned to do the correct thing in every case
- Turn off q-value when only a single accept-language is available. Some servers had problems with it
- Let fastforward send referrer correctly
- Fixed a problem with importing XML bookmarks
Transfer/Progress:
- Autoselect new transfer if list doesn't have focus and current selected is not in progress

Anyway...the Dropdownmenus on [url]http://www.blizzard.com are still distorted(you can see the borders). Looked ok pre 7.2beta3.
The dropdownmenus on [url]http://www.skandiabanken.no dont work properly(you cant extend the menus). Worked in the lates Opera 6 versions and in the first Opera 7 versions.

GENERAL: REALLY great idea, I find google ads often useful (relevant to the specified search), whether they are well targetted to specific pages remains to be seen. But they have to be better than the current banner-type adverts.
Olli Said: They also take up less space on smaller screens
The current box takes up the same space as the banner as far as I can see, is that a bug then?
Added horizontal panning support
Finally!!!!
Let popup progress appear inside any scrollbars
What was meant (I think) is that it jumps immediately ABOVE the scrollbar if needed ...

Yes, thanks for that. I normally have my progress bar inside the address bar, but I just tried it and it works as you explained.

They can only scroll vertically with the tweak in your wiki.
And I know the devs were playing with automating Synaptics ini files modification during install in the betas.

Edit: Never mind, I just saw non-troppo's post.. (That was fast, thanks!

When I installed beta 11, I was given a choice of skins. There was the standard skin, plus two windows skins: classic windows and windows skin.
What's the difference between the two windows skins?
The first windows skin was a normal windows skin and the second was a modified windows skinned that you were using so far?
Just guessing but that's the choice I got:
- standard skin
- windows skin
- windows mod skin
"Windows mod" is what I currently use. It's a windows skin with added icons for notepad, irfanview, ie and moz. I got a standard mod and some other mods too, but apparently Opera gives a choice of: standard, windows and the one u were using.
Edit: d.i.z. was faster.

But isn't the progress bar (no matter if there is a horizontal scrollbar or not) one or two pixels higher (thicker) because of that?

This is build 3118, for the interested. So far so good. I've got the Rads on, and they're... interesting, at least. /puts in his reg code.
They'll make my girlfriend happy. Down in AU, there's some sort of flashing ad that she can't stand, lol.

Stupid English language where one word means 2 different things even though they have 500,000 words. I meant bigger in height. Thicker.
I ment it's height is bigger. But let me see. Yep.
See it's 2 pixels higher (thicker). Beta 11 is on the left in the attachment.

Yepp, GoogleAd is the same size as StandardAd, but the space is well-used, so I do not complain. Especially if you have status bar located at "Top", so it is placed just below the buttons.
GoogleAd is simply great

Google Ads: So far great[1]!!! There is also a list of related searches to page you're on - really nice, like a 'related links' search built-in. This actually provides functionality for non-registered users, neat!
Interestingly, when going to home pages of large companies like Microsoft or Sun, the google ads completely disappear! I suppose Google has contracts with these Corporations to stop 'alternatives' appearing in the related searches.
Sadly, going to the IE homepage doesn't bring up any ads for Opera
[1]Wish: Registered users can remove the Ad's, but optionally keep the related searches box, additionally with a Pagerank for the current page, kinda like a little google info page for every page visited!!!

So basically, only after the page is loaded, one GET request is made, and around 4000 bytes of information is returned.
The question is, if loading lots of tabs simultaneously, does Opera only make One request based on the last loaded window or what?
Answer: When loaded in the background, Opera doesn't even contact the adserver at all, nice as it minimises any performance impact of this system when loading several pages.

That's correct. Only a page that finishes loading in the foreground asks for the Google ad. If you really want to see the ads for a background-loaded page, you have to reload it

Re: Opera 7.20 beta 11 for windows w/Google "Rads"
I'm a bit confused. Can someone please explain this to me?========
Re: Opera 7.20 beta 11 for windows w/Google "Rads"
========
Does this refer to the search field to the right of the address bar? . . . because in my Beta 11, the google search index doex not populate when I type, (as beta 9 did). I must misunderstand. Can someone please clarify for me?
