Opera 7.20 Beta 13 for Windows available

Opera 7.20 Beta 13 for Windows is available for download. As usual, discuss the new version in opera.beta and in the my.opera.com
Beta Testing forum. Please do not distribute the download link directly, but link to the post in opera.beta or in the my.opera.com Beta
Testing forum.

Download Beta 13:

[url]http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/ow32enen720b13.exe (build 3139)

Changelog since beta 12

Display:
- Fix for images that sometimes didn't repaint when animation was disabled.
- Fixed PRE text wrapping.
- Missing scrollbar on b-zone.de fixed.
- Fix for crash on print preview of invalid document.
- Fix crash/freese on Print preview on [url]http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;250297
- Fix for blinking on news.walla.co.il

ECMAScript:
- Fix for to many onclick events when doubleclicking.
- Fix for ONBLUR events in forms.
- Focus and alert fix.

Plugins:
- WMP9 cached movie only displayed when reloaded.
- Fix for some QuickTime movies not playing in Opera.

File type handling:
- Find viewer for mime type using version identifier. Instead of stripping version from the type, we first look for viewer with
mime/type;version, then, if not found for viewer without version identifier.

User interface:
- Pressing . or / starts an inline find without a search field. 1 second timeout or force with Escape.
- Fix for starting with commandline URLs in SDI and "no windows" (an extra blank window would be opened).

M2:
- Fix (for new installs) for labels/attachment views not showing hidden messages.

Kiosk:
- Do not load m2 in kiosk mode if no-mail-links has been specified.
- Do not allow to change toolbars using drag-n-drop when in kiosk mode.

And more minor fixes.

- Fix for blinking on news.walla.co.il

OMG.
You are almost there(!), now the blinking is gone and clicking on the links is perfect but... when hovering on the affected area, the vertical text (I think it's an image...) on the left disappears.

See attachment.

This works on links as well, which can then be activated with the spacebar. And F3 goes to 'Next'.

Eat your heart out, "type as you type" fans :D

Jor, while waiting to download (bah, dialup!) - can the find-as-you-type restrict to just links? I think . and / should respectively search all-text / just links for more focus of the search

Saturday, 20. September 2003, 17:42:35

Can someone explain this . or / feature? I don't get it.

Hooray! bug #121243 is fixed! But #125206 is a problem again..

P.S. How do you get the next match in "find-as-you-type"?

non-troppo - nah, it's just a new way to access inline find (no more need for a search box, I can minimize my toolbar even further!).

Keyboard ini entry:
/ = Find Inline, 1

nant -- press / or . and type a word you want to find in the page. It will jump to and highlight the first match.
So it is inline find without the need for a search box.

cesium -- as I posted, F3. Just wait one second after finding the first match and you can use it.

. works, / doesn't (at least on a German [qwertz] keyboard)..

Edit: Correction - "/" on the numerical keypad does work, the one on the main keyboard (located above the 7 on German keyboards) doesn't

Thanks jor, didn't notice. But F3 doesn't work here...

Update: Nevermind, didn't wait enough time. But why the delay? F3 is not a legitimate character in search strings..

cesium -- are you sure you've waited about a second? Anything you type (including the function keys apparently) inside the one second period after getting your first succesful match is used for inline find, so you have to wait until it expires. Or press ESC before you F3.

Now that's interesting... "/" on the numerical keypad does work, "/" as "shift & 7" doesn't, but "/" as "caps lock & 7" does, although caps lock should't have any effect on other symbols than letters.
Can anybody confirm this behaviour?

OK, so I'm off to the wish-list to ask for specifying only links or all text. I still love this feature though!

By the way, vey neat special effects when you do the . search - brings up a small box with your search text, then slides/fades it out of view. I agree that it should NOT count F3 as search text, but as it's supposed function.

With links searching, it's become an instinct for me to press cltr+6 (focuses the links panel in my keyboard config), and start typing. Then tab(, arrows,) and enter to launch the right link

The problem is that how do you refocus the 'quick-find' in the links panel - after using it once to go to a link it still contains the old search, and ctrl+6 doesn't focus the quick-find again automatically. This makes it useless for extensive use. Maybe I'm missing a key command / customisation to focus the links panel quick-search (then you'd have to delete before making a new search). Anyway all of this is still taking many more more keystrokes than ". searchterm 'space'"!!!

BTW how come the option to disable the progress bar in the prefs menu has been removed???

Great job Opera folks.

The 'On the web menu' entries have all been prefixed with redir.opera.com for some reason.

I suspect they'll all become redirected entries in the next beta (or final?).

Beta 12 for Linux was just posted, and now beta 13 comes for Windows... It looks like you are competing witht he Linux group.

Downloading b13 now. Just noticed that download window in b12 still displays '?' at "Size", "Progress" and "Time" feilds. This was not the case befor beta 9 or 10.

EDIT: Damn, can't get beta 13 using beta 12 - download reaches some point at normal speed (56k modem), then then it just stops. At first attempt is stopped at 2.8 MB on the second run it stopped at 386kb. Will try diabling firewall....

EDIT 2: Bingo! Firewall (ZoneAlarm) somehow interfered with downloading. Now "Size", "Progress" and "Time" fields show the correct values. Will see if I will manage to complete the download...

EDIT3: However unlikely it sounds - it is the Ad blocking part of ZoneAlarm Pro that interferes with Opera's downloading! The file has been downloaded sucessfully now that AdBlocking was disable while the rest of ZoneAlarm was set to maximum security.

Quote from the changelog:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"M2:
- Fix (for new installs) for labels/attachment views not showing hidden messages."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What does it mean---"for new installs"?

Does that mean if you copy over your mail folder from your previous beta, that this fix will not work?

Problems still here at b13

Bug 126132: "Opera Problematical with HP installed screen fonts". This one's going to affect a lot of users - basically anyone with an HP laser printer.

Bug 124465: "Z key causes spurious crash"
In beta 12 and 13, I still get certain situations where a particular tree of website history causes Opera to crash when traversing back through the tree with Back / "Z" key. If I then load up Opera and go "continue from last time", going back will again crash Opera. However, if I start a fresh copy and go to the same sites, back will usually NOT crash Opera. Something in the "continue from last time" state makes the crash repeatable when it does happen.

Keep up the good work!

Seb
