Scroll marker doesn't work (Opera 10.50, Vista)

I've enabled the Scroll marker in my preferences, yet it doesn't show up. I've already tried unchecking it and checking it again, and even checked opera:config, but with no result.

Newly installed Opera 10.50 on Windows Vista; I don't know whether in the previous versions it works or not. On Linux it worked fine.

No one because the bug report system is obscure and mute, you never get any feedback nor follow up on issues.

Nor in 10.54 Build 3423. But don't expect to, these are special branches (to fix security issues, or demo new features); probably no work has been done to fix the scroll marker yet.

With the proviso that I've never attempted to use the scroll marker before so don't know what it would look like if it were there: I can't see any sign of it in 10.60, Build 3445, Windows XP.

It doesn't seem to work, but you can still see it in settings. Scroll Marker Settings
The weird part is that the standard sking still has the scrollmarker pngs in there.

Anyone hear what has gone on with this feature recently ?

I don't think anyone from Opera has responded. I do really miss this feature - but it still appears in the opera:config.

Any news ?

It is impossible for you to see the status of your bug-report. You can only see if your bug is fixed when you test it with later versions of Opera and have a look at the changelogs (but they only show the most important fixed bugs).

Having checked out Opera 11 Alpha, this is still in the opera:config.

I wonder with extensions if this will just be quicker for one of us to build - and maybe Opera will just either finally drop this feature. I don't understand why they have it still ilsted in the config for 11 when it still doesn't work.

I am saddened. IMHO, it was such a small-yet-great feature in earlier Operas sad

It never worked well for me, even when it was working. I find it easier to select some text with the mouse to remember my place. The idea of marking your place on the page was OK, but it was not implemented well. A future feature should do it in a way that is much more reliable and usable.

In my rich text editor Jarte, I can just click the vertical ruler to set a bookmark, and navigate up and down through the bookmarks with a shortcut key.

I have add this feature request to the Desktop Wish-list

I aree with AleksOD.
At the time it used to work for me, I appreciated this feature very much. It's sad that, instead of making it work properly, they chose to delete it altogether.

I wish these forums* could adopt a voting system like Slashdot and Reddit because I agree with the sentiments on missing this feature which for me, also worked quite well. I've tried looking a bit but has no one written an extension to replace this - if it's even possible?

* (Yes I could probably go suggest it as a feature but it's probably too difficult to implement; besides, how would we know whether it would be a popular feature or not if the upvote/like system isn't available. wink )

Why does Opera keep removing useful features? Scroll marker and hostname/domain completion come to mind first. Have anyone from Opera Software commented on why this has happened?

Anyone can add a poll to their wish-list threads, and it can be more precise than just yes/no. Multiple selection polls are also possible.

It doesn't. The scroll-marker wasn't useful because it didn't work properly, so they removed it. Or it might be that the developers are seeking alternate revenue streams bigsmile

It was not removed. It is still there in Preferences, Network, Server name completion.

Right, it's there in the prefs, but the feature isn't actually active in the browser. Or so it seems. I type "example" in the address bar and press enter, I'd like to arrive at www.example.no, but instead I get a google search (I already have a truckload of ways to search google from within the Opera UI, such at the google search field RIGHT NEXT to the address bar!).

BTW, I asked damage92, who was an author of Slim Scrollbar extension, and he made an extension for Scroll Marker.
