Opera 10.50 Cache
In previous versions of Opera, if I wanted to keep a media file I had just watched or listened to, rather than download it again I used to go to the cache folder, and search for it -- easily recognised by its size. I've been looking at possible locations (in Vista) for the new cache, and have come up with a folder full of many sub-folders at c:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\cache\ and I'm wondering if this is it. Do I now have to search through these folders for what I want to keep, or is there another way to search for specific files to pull from the cache? Thanks.
There is no need to go searching now — there is a new cache manager in Opera 10.5

- Type opera:cache in the URL field (or select Cache, from Tools, Advanced)
- Select the media types you're interested in
- Find the domain you're interested in (or just list media files for all domains)
- Click List or Preview to list or preview the cached items for that domain

Yes, that is your cache folder. Just use a Windows search, and make sure you're searching within subdirectories as well.
And like smoke, we were gone...
What do the min and max fields do? Limit the size of cached items, or limit the size of the total cache? I've left mine blank, as they are in your example, but I'm not sure what their function is.

To save the file, try clicking on "list" off that screen right click on the web link, click "save linked content as" and save onto your pc.
I think that works, I just did it to a file and was able to open the content via VLC off my desktop. Still have the browser open though so not sure, but it did open up the opera download tab.
Tried getting something from a link off a site I looked at a couple of days ago, but nothing saved so I think you still have to save it before you close down your browser session.
Edit. just to confirm that, I shut down the session and opened up again, the "file" is gone from that list so save it before you shut down opera. [And I do have deleted cache on exit unchecked.] PS using vista, dont know if going into that previous history/session thing on vista will bring it up, I have mind set to not save on that anyway.
hope that helps

Anyone got further information about saving a file from the cache? The only options in the viewer seem to be to view it or see it listed.
Thanks for the info. That's what I guessed, but wasn't sure.
I'd also like to be able to delete individual cache items, or least items from a particular site, without having to delete the entire cache. Is there any way to do this?

Still trying to get this to work. I have the video I've just watched still open in a tab. I've opened up a new tab to opera:cache, found my video by clicking on Link beside YouTube, and right-clicked on /videoplayback, and its now downloading to where I'm saving it all over again instead of just copying it from the cache. Also, if I choose to view the video again by double-clicking the link, it opens a new tab and starts downloading it all over again rather than playing it from the copy in cache. I know it's still in the cache, because I can replay it in the original tab without it redownloading. Am I doing something wrong, or will I have to find another way to pull files from the cache.
It's worth noting that when I try the same thing with an image file, it happily opens the cached copy -- it only seems to do this with YouTube videos.

Agbeard - try rightclicking on it then Save Linked Content As. This way saves it from the cache.
Then rename it to whatever you think the clip should be called, and if it is a youtube file put .flv at the end because they are usually flv files.
you'll need a player for flv's like Gom Player, or VLC Media Player - see the folks at download.com for those

~~Good to hear you have things working A.
Mine shows the file in the download window, but actually saves it from the cache usually... unless I was saving a long time after the file ran.
