Opera Mobile 10 final
Hi everyone,We are proud to present Opera Mobile 10 final
And yes, it's free!
Download it from www.opera.com/mobile/download, or visit m.opera.com with your phone's browser, and post your feedback in the forums.
Important note: For those of you experiencing the "Could not initialize Opera" problem, or input lag, there is a fix available. Just download Opera again from the above links, and install it (no need to uninstall the previous build).
For more information about the release, please visit www.opera.com/mobile or the Opera Mobile blog.
We especially thank all our beta testers for helping us find lots of bugs, and hope to have your continued feedback going forward. Enjoy!
Best regards,
The Opera Mobile team
I have an HTC Touch HD (T8282). Until today have been using Opera Mobile 10 beta - everything was okay. Today I've updated my Opera to the final version and now receive the same message all the time: Could not initialize Opera. Reinstalled it several times, restarted the phone.
Does anybody have the same problem?
Thanks!
1) Go to settings -> System -> Remove programs.
2) If Opera Mobile 10 Beta is listed, click it and choose "remove". If not listed, go to next step
3) Go to the installation path for Opera Mobile 10 Beta 3. If you installed to device memory, this will be under Program Files.
4) Rename the directory Opera Mobile 10 to something else, e.g. OM10backup
5) Reinstall Opera Mobile 10.
Let me know if this works for you. Note that this will be a fresh install and none of your settings from beta 3 will be preserved.
Regards,
@Evil3000: It says English but it is actually multi-language (this will be fixed). Just download the "English Version" - it will automatically pick up the language on your device and show Opera in that language (for those languages where a translation is present - German is included).

Hi,
I downloaded and tested Opera Mobile 10 this morning on my HTC HD2.
Unfortunately It does not support multitouch.
I am very sursprised that it misses such an important fuctionality.
Navigation is therefore difficult on the HD2.
I reverted back to Opera 9.7
Sad and disappointed that the Opera team did not include multitouch. That's a deal breaker.
1. browse to Opera installation folder - profile - bream ( Program Files\Opera Mobile 10\profile\bream )
2. Find your local language translation file; "locale-ri-??.rsc" files where ?? is sort code for language (fr = French, ru = Russian, fi = Finnish, etc.)
3. remove / rename it
4. Make copy of "locale-ri-en-gb.rsc" or "locale-ri-en-us.rsc" (US english file)
5. And rename that to your local language translation file; "locale-ri-??.rsc" (see step 2)
And no annoying forced translation is used

But instead of getting a 800px wide view by default that perfectly fits the HD2's screen with nicely written and perfectly readable text we get either a crippled shrinked 1024 one, or some too-much-zoomed-in alternative, with no way to get inbetween.
Flash works quite well, but on quite a few sites I get a flash icon with a 9. And for video sites, the lack of zoom either shows you part of the video or the whole page with a little video screen inside. Why no "fit video automatically"?
Wonder what went through the heads of the developers. It's close to being great, but those 2 little things make it practically nearly unuseable. Flease fix that, too bad to do all that work and just miss the last but most important step to user experience...
Flash is nice, but not essential, zoom is... just allow setting of the wide and "zoomed in" widths (at least a 1:1 option), pinch & zoom, and optionally the zoom bar like the one that can be activated in 9.7, and it will be the perfect browser.
Alos, think of an option to automatically play flash content without the need to tap the play icon.

And does removing it make more sense? 9.7 does it beautifully for the many people who have the few phones that supports it. When you release something you do it for the future, not the past

9.7 is a different browser. Opera Mobile 10 is clearly a major rewrite with a totally new UI. Also, 9.7 is bundled with phones, so Opera was paid to integrate multitouch on specific phones.
So it's not that it was removed, it's that it isn't implemented in v10.

Why should they have thumbnails?
no multitouch
no pinch to zoom
Hardly any phones support this, so why spend lots of time implementing it all over again?
why take something away that was very usefull for a final build of something...?
Nothing was taken away. Opera Mobile 10 is not just an upgrade for 9.7, it has a totally new UI.

Speaking about integration on the HD2 there, with the favorites screen.

Because pretty much every new current and future high end phone has/will have it, maybe? Not keeping up would be pretty stupid. Those features have become standard now.

whatever dude, you carry on using 10 while i and probably quiet a few others go back to the better 9.7 build

10 is much better than 9.7, but it's a generic Windows Mobile browser, whereas 9.7 is designed to work with certain features on specific phones.

I do consider multitouch and variable zoom as basic functions on a modern browser. Comfort of navigation shall be the main concern of the developers. Not proposing multitouch in year 2010 is simply unbelievable.
The technology was here (since 9.7 has it). So why remove it?!
Therefore, compared to my Opera 9.7 on the HD2 I have the feeling that this v10 is a regression.
Indeed, it is simply not useable: the size of the website is either too small (and therefore unreadable) or too big (and unreadable also!) and no way to adapt the zoom. Finally, the browser never scales to the right format. It just makes me crazy after 2 minutes.
The rest of the interface, the rendering and the speed are super good.
But the absence of these major functionalities is indeed a total dealbreaker.
As it is Opera v10 is just not convenient.
Also, Flash does not work either. Only from time to time.

Yep, same here, Ipaq214, "Could not initialize Opera" error. This was installation over the 10 beta3!

Side by side I would think that the Opera Mini beta was final and the Opera Mobile 10 was still in beta.

my connection is fine - tried in v old opera version i have and no probs.
any suggestions?? not very technical so need some help!
I have tried uninstaling, reinstalling, rebooting etc etc several times
Apart from that, I do really like the interface and features and unlike other HD2 users, my favourites do have thumbnails. Will have to live with it for a while to see if I can do without multitouch integration but having got very used to it, I can see Opera 10 being uninstalled within a matter of days. Shame.

For those using HD2s, in the settings go to zoom->60%. This will give (about?) 1:1 rendering, apparently the aliased images are such because they're enlarged a bit. This will disable zooming altogether too though, but it seems the click response of small links has been improved so if your screen is properly calibrated you should still be able to click on small links with no more than 1-2 tries.
I think that sort of workaround, although dodgy, does make it decently useable. If it didn't deactivate zooming it would be even better.
Thanks for this new version.
It is fast and I do like the new interface.
But as several users have reported on this forum I can barely understand the lack of Pinch & zoom feauture.
Almost all new windows phones will have multi-touch capacitive screen. So seems like a non-sense to remove this essential part.
I am now used to the pinch and zoom available on 9.7.
I finally uninstalled this v 10... Too difficult to navigate within the page.
Do you plan to put back multitouch in the next update?
Thanks
Great thanks for effort an indeed a great work which has been done.
-----------
I must say however that on these nice words my compliments finish quickly.
Honestly, OMobile for Windows is a pile of crap
compared to native OMini for Windows.
Why?!
All the problems I was refererring since 1st beta (half a year ago?!)
are
gloriously PRESENT on this "final" OMini 10.
So, pictures are never loaded at first time, you have to reload everything to
see the real look of the page.
Of course banking in my Bank is still DEAD, however
OMini does that for years.
My Bank still does not see the browser's actions properly.
I did a fresh install to be shure it's not an upgrade problem etc.
Upload on Blogger is fucked up too.
It's also quite laggy when zoom in!
So summing this up:
half baked, not improved 5,3 MB of basic problems.
There's no simple reason to use it over OMini.
Honestly? A great great shame for Opera company.
(Opera user for 4 years or so....)
P.S. Who gave you the right to decide
FOR ME what language I use in browser??!!
16. March 2010, 18:20:11 (edited)
But Opera Mobile disappoints me more and more. Still no flash working properly (why Skyfire can make it and not Opera ??)
Also, why most of the time my HD2 is recognised as a mobile (especially by google) and gives me mobile-view pages . How can I disable the mobile view? Hey, I don't want it. I want the REGULAR Internet view. No setting for that?
****
This version is also slower to load, slower to render, and slower to display typed text.
It looks like text selection finally works, but unless you fix the zoom, I can't use this version.
It never happened before that such non-ready, badly working
software is released by Opera as finished!
Never ever, whether it was Opera for desktop
or Opera Mini!
How the hell is that possible
that OLD Opera 9.5 can do MORE than Opera 10
few years later?!
This is something I really don't get.
Was it really SO HARD to make upload
on Blogger work??
The non loading pictures issue
is constant,
Opera are you listening
or you just don't care about this browser anymore??
I'm really surprised.....
Sadly I have to come to this conclusion: This v10 is just a big step backwards...
The website never matches the screen, and if ever you need to zoom you have to go to settings.
Where is the smart zooming feature from 9.7 version?
Recent devices are multitouch. And Opera wants to ignore this feature?
I will go back to my old good v9.7 until Opera decides to upgrade v10.
This product is obviously not finished.
I have the laggy typing too. When I type the text is displayed too slowly.
How can Opera come to say that's a final release?
I think there is any changes to the zoom levels. In beta 2, and 3 100% Zoom was really 100%, but now in final - 100% now has a much larger zoom. And a 200% is a huge. Everything else is perfect.
I second that, on My iPAQ 214, which is high resolution (VGA) device as well, everythin is twice as big compared to beta 3, things are bigger on zoom 60% in final than on zoom 100% in beta 3, so generally things are too big and wasting screen, why such a big change in the last moment? So I say bad work
