Sounds like you just installed a fake anti-virus software (aka MALWARE). eek

Try google "remove System security 2009" to get instruction on how to get rid of it.

Good luck. wink

Remove your Mcafee & restart ur laptop. Then remove manually from programe file the Antivirus folder.. If u have reg cleaner software then scan & del the reg file mcaffe.. Otherwise it will get prob which new antivirus software you will install on it.. Better u download from www.avast.com & download the new version 5 free version & also Register on it. So, that they can snd 1 yr valid Key no. to ur mail id. Its, a good antivirus ..

Have A nICE Day smile

Virus scan disabled is a bad sign

good diagnoses

XP is getting old and there is no incentive for Microsoft to support it, It is actually to Microsofts advantage to get you to move to Windows 7. If your internet access still works the virus can be removed with effort. I have best luck physically removing the hard drive from the box and scanning the drive from another box using a SATA/IDE TO USB 2.0 ADAPTER/CABLE. If the internet access does not work you will need to reinstall XP.

Once fixed or reinstalled downloading Microsoft Security Essentials is prudent. The best security is keeping up with the updates. Never ever use Internet Explorer. And if a window pops up saying that you have multiple viruses never click, close the window instead.

Didn't they just discuss "scareware" on the portal blog?

Read this.
