Showstopper. DSK-289440. Opera suddenly uses *all* available memory...
Hi,I found what, at least for me, is a huge showstopper in 10.52 build 3337.
Opera suddenly eats all the available memory in my system.
I think that the culprit is a background task because it does this even when I'm not using Opera and I have it minimized.
Maybe the jit, a garbage collector, no idea...
When this happens, Opera freezes for 2 or 3 seconds and then it uses all the memory of my system (2GB)
Then XP pages a big chunk of Opera memory and also pages all the opened apps, so *everything* goes to disk and slows down to a crawl.
This can happen with a few tabs opened.
I've been watching Opera memory usage with Process Explorer and I captured several screenshots with Opera virtual memory usage, working set memory usage, etc. that I appended to bug report DSK-289440.
I also could see which thread started this memory craze, it is Opera.exe. I appended a screenshot with the thread in action.
Hope you can fix this soon. Opera is simply amazing but this bug is preventing me to use it so I have to stick to Chrome for now.
I appended two screenshots.
Thanks and keep up the good work! :-)

EricJH,
Yes, it is a clean install, plug-ins disabled and thumbnails disabled.
I've been using Opera since version 6, alphas and betas, and never seen this behaviour.
It is a background task. It fires even when I'm not using Opera and I have it open in the background.
It does this with only a few tabs opened.
Best! :-)

I got this too, the virtual memory usage suddenly skyrocket and the memory usage gets low. Sometimes it will end with a crash.
Can you post the

EricJH,
I'm not sure yet, but it could be a url that runs a javascript program in the background to update stock quotes or it could be finance.google.com that also refreshes data with javascript.
Gianluca and Philry4n do you have tabs open with pages being refreshed periodically with javascript?
Best! :-)

Hi,
Here is the culprit:
http://www.eleconomista.es/indice/IBEX-35
This is a page from the best economy journal in Spain. It shows stock quotes in real time. A javascript code updates the quotes every second.
The page reloads every 300 seconds. Sometimes, not always, when the page starts the reload, opera freezes for several seconds, the cpu usage goes to almost 100% and Opera takes all the available memory in my system. XP pages most of Opera memory and all background apps and the system slows down to a crawl. Sometimes Opera does not respond and I have to kill the process. I have plugins and thumbnails disabled. Opera version is 10.52 build 3344. See appended screenshots with process explorer info in the first post or in bug report DSK-289440.
To catch the bug you have to load the page when the stock market is open (from 9am to 17h30 Spanish time). After or before this time the javascript code does not run.
Best! :-)
