I haven't though about this before, but that search field in the Speed Dial is pretty much pointless. When you have a Speed Dial up, you can search from the address bar, the search field next to it, or from the one in the Speed Dial page.

I'd love to see an easier way of removing it. An option for disabling\enabling it in the Speed Dial options (where you can choose size and background) would be great, and make a lot of sense seeing that the speed dial is in the Speed Dial.

i still think speed dial search very useful because it saves clicks i need to do to achieve task. it's about how friendly interface is, while you asking user to remember 10 search patterns and type them it can be done with simple mouse clicks.
search field as wide as any other column in speed deal, so there space for at least 2 more search fields if it 3x3 or 3 more if 4x3.

Easy "jork". preference> searches> edit the engine which is in speed dial> uncheck "use as speed dial search engine"

A long time ago, Opera's personal bar was on with several search engines by default. It's now hidden by default. May be you should try it.

I have added multiple search boxes to the Opera Start Bar for all my frequently used search engines - This way I never need to use the Speed Dial search engine - Infact I have so many search engines in the Start Bar, the Speed Dial search box gets hidden under it.
