Changing font of Notes panel only

Hello!

One of the features I love about Opera is the Notes panel, which I frequently use to store bits of text and or make short notes. I also regularly make lists there of things I am watching in the main browser window, but as the panel uses Segoe UI as a font, it is somewhat tricky to make them line up properly. Hence, I would like to change it to a fixed-width font (say, for example, Courier New).

Now I know the notes panel font is determined in the advanced settings under Fonts -> Browser panels. Unfortunately that affects all panels, including the Download window. As Courier New is otherwise pretty ugly, I'd like to be able to only change the font for the Notes panel itself, and not any of the other ones. Unfortunately some searching has not helped in this regard, and I don't even know whether it is possible to do this.

So basically, is there any way of selecting a seperate font for just the Notes panel itself, perhaps through some .ini file editing?

Many thanks in advance!

No, and finding an attractive monospaced font is almost impossible. To be frank, you would be better off writing and editing notes in Notepad or whatever and pasting them back into Opera. You could also use a text editor with spell-check, which is currently broken in Opera notes.

Then it is as I feared and all hope is lost!

I've opted to go with Andale Mono for now, which actually isn't too bad for a fixed-width font. I'll have to see if I can deal with it popping up in various places I don't really want it to. Thanks for the answer smile

You might want to try Consolas, one the of new MS Vista fonts. I use it for writing code in nearly every editor I use, it's not ugly like Courier, and it is not only monospaced but exactly like a code font should be, a diagonal dash through the 0, the I, l | and 1 glyphs clearly different, brackets easily distinguishable and just barely a pixel higher and lower than other characters (so they "embrace" the expression). And a bunch of other often-overlooked features. Seems like MS really spend some good thinking on this one.

If you don't have Vista (I have XP, too), you can get this new font pack for free from the Microsoft website, if you one of their free Office Viewer applications (such as PowerPoint Viewer or something), the new fonts are bundled and installed with their Office downloads. At least, I think that's how I got hold of them. Otherwise I'm sure some google-fu will get you to a ZIP that just contains the TTFs.

But you bring a good point, I'm going to try and set Consolas for my Panel font right now, see how that works for me. The variable-width default font is nice for menu items and such read-only text, but they simply aren't usable when editing text (edit boxes input font discussed halfway through the page in that link).
