10.51 and Windows 7

I had version version 10.51 with a Windows 7 Operating System (Premium edition) 64 bits. It was an upgrade to 10.51, and Opera was freezing and crashing a lot. I reinstalled Opera 10.01, which worked fine. Then I tried a fresh install (not an upgrade) of version 10.51, and went to a few websites, and clicked on links. Quite a few of the links didn't open. So neither the upgrade nor the fresh install seemed to get version 10.51 working well for me. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled version 10.01. Which is where I am now -- with version 10.01.

My focus is on 10.51 with Windows 7 and 64 bit operating system. Maybe there's a problem with version 10.51 with Windows 7 in a 64 bit environment. I mean the clean install (not the upgrade) should have worked for me. Has anyone else had an experience with Version 10.51 with Windows 7 and 64 bit system. If so, what is your experience there? confused

Opera 10.5x works fine on Windows 7, so I doubt that the platform is the issue.

Are you using a proxy server?

Thanks so much for commenting on this. Not exactly sure what a proxy server is (though I did look up term on the internet)? I don't think I'm using a proxy server. I have one computer in a private home, and am using Comcast as my internet provider. They're a major internet provider in the United States.

By the way, I'm wondering if your Windows 7, Haarvard, is 64 bit? Maybe 64 bit makes a difference. That's what I'm using. If not, i'm puzzled at why my clean install wouldn't have solved problem of links not opening.

I did go after the clean install to

http://www.foxnews.com/

and links didn't open there. Maybe that page is not a good page to test on. At that point, I just got frustrated, and uninstalled version 10.51, and returned to 10.01.

When a few days earlier, I just did the upgrade of my existing Opera version 10.01 (as opposed to a clean install), i had the problem of freezes and links not opening on quite a few pages, not just the Fox News page.

I tried 10.51 again, this time with an upgrade. On the Fox page, sometimes the links worked, then suddenly they didn't. I had to go f5 a few times to refresh the page, and then a link might work, and then it would stop working. Something is wrong -- 10.51 doesn't seem to work for me.

I guess I'm safer to use 10.01 which does work, and see if others have a problem with 10.51, and there's an upgrade. I realize that for some/maybe many all is ok. But it doesn't seem to be for me.

Yes, most of us actually use the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

What happens when you click links? Do you see any error messages?

Regarding proxy servers, take a look in "Preferences (Ctrl+F12) > Advanced > Network > Proxy Servers". If you see anything filled in there, you are using a proxy server. In that case, checking the "use HTTP 1.1" option might help.

Nothing was filled in for me for Proxy servers. So I guess that means, I'm not using a proxy server.

What happened when I clicked on link (with Opera 10.51) was nothing. It was like clicking on something that wasn't a link. No error messages. Now with version 10.01, when my cursor is on top of a link, the cursor turns into a hand icon, to indicate that this is a clickable link. With version 10.51 sometimes that happened, but other times the page went dead for me, and no links were clickable.

It happened on the fox news page, but it happened on other pages too. Now sometimes a refresh f5 corrected the problems. Other times it didn't.

So it does sound like the issue for me isn't 64 bit windows 7 (as an explanation for why i'm having problems with version 10.51).

I think a problem may be that Foxnews.com site. Sometimes, it works, but soon/quickly, it locks up with version 10.51. It's ok with version 10.01.

I downloaded 10.51 to a separate location on my c:drive. And the Fox page quickly locked again.

Just to clarify: Are you saying that foxnews.com prevents links from working in other tabs?

I have 10.51 installed again, and tried a few different web pages. Generally the pages worked ok, except for the sometimes-freezes on the Fox page. I think there's (at least for me as I can't speak for others) something wrong with that Fox web page and Opera 10.51 (the problem wasn't there with Opera 10.01 and the fox page).

At times, I click on a link on the Foxnews webpage, and it won't open. Maybe the foxpage isn't fully loading. One can try reloading it with f5s and that sometimes solves the problem.

The foxnews page IS NOT preventing links from working in other tabs. I'm sorry if I left that impression. I'm trying 10..51 again. Disregarding the Foxnew page problem, and seeing if otherwise it works ok. I would definitely like this latest version of the generally wonderful Opera browser to work for me.
