I just reverted from v5 to v4.2 because it won't snap to links

Hi,
maybe i'm using Opera mini wrong, but I I just reverted from v5 to v4.2 on my Blackberry 8310;
in v4.2, when I scroll a page with links, the selection snaps to the links on the page.
in v5, i get a hand cursor, which I need to position precisely on the links.
I find v4.2's behavior more convenient - is there some setting to have the same behavior on v5?

thanks

There is no way to change this.
It is by design.

I missed the jump to link scrolling of 4.2 as well.

I really don't know why such a precise and efficient method of page navigation was entirely abandoned in OM5, especially in mobile view. For me, the lack of it significantly slows down general browsing and usability.

Hopefully jump to link will return in a revised version of OM5. Until then it's still the superb OM 4.2 for me.

I am missing that too, use to be a breeze to scroll through a paige, now its kind of a struggle, I would have gone back to 4.2 but it does not work on my OS 5.0.591

Not that I'm trying to defend Opera, but you guys should know that Opera Mini 5 is made mainly for touchscreens, with it's equivalent scrolling methods. If snap to links is so important, maybe you should stick to 4.2 I guess?

I mean, how does one do snap to links if it should do kinetic flick scrolling? Just like 4.2 isn't that good for touchscreen usage, 5.0 isn't good for non-touchscreen usage. Wouldn't you call it fair?

It is obviously not fair because 5 has more features than 4 like tabs an copy/paste.

Life is never fair. sad

Snap to links would only work on phones with physical directional keys. Unless Opera codes a version specially for touch/non-touch phones, a compromise has to be made somewhere.

Heavens, wouldn't it be awesome if you could like, *choose* whether you want snap to links enabled or not? Yep, I'm going back to 4.2 as well alas, for a number of reasons (posted elsewhere), including this one.

I pretty much made the genius decision to continue to use 4.2 with the release of OM5b2 when it became clear it's "one size fits all" user interface that seems to favour touch screen operation wasn't going to change.

A shame really because from my point of view, despite it's user interface failings OM5 otherwise works well on my phone.

As in the past Opera Mini was available for general download in basic and advanced versions for people with phones of differing capability, I would hope in the future that Opera Mini will be made available in specific versions for keypad and touch screen operation because one single user interface struggles to be ideal for both methods of input. That way the people with touch screens could have an even better, entirely touch screen version that doesn't even try to cater for key pads as well and those of us with key and D-pads would have a version that was as quick as it was before.

Missing the "Link Snap" feature in OM5 mobile view made me go back to 4.2.
On Keypad phones the mouse in mobile view makes it quite unusable...
So I have to stay on 4.2

As asked before I'm asking me to why it could not be possible ( as it was up to OM 3 )
to have an "Basic" and an "Advanced" version for Keypad and Touchscreen phones.

Alternatively to UI should be more customizable.

I don't care if i get banned Opera mini v 5 is simply not worth downloading in the first place . It has so many issues on so many phones that it's better to stick to v 4.2 it's still the best browser in the world . Opera mini 5 'STINKS' ! .

I'd stick with 4.2 if it worked on a 5.0 blackberry OS. Bad luck I guess, because even OM 5 has some serious flaws. And these flaws make it unusable.
