Opera 10.51 + new YouTube design

With the new YouTube design introduced yesterday, any interaction with the flash video player requires a click on the flash element first -> "Click to activate and use this control".

Yes, I know about the Eolas patent. Nevertheless this is VERY annoying and it didn't happen on youtube.com before the redesign.
Opera really needs to get rid of this nonsense.

Do you have Opera Turbo enabled? Preferences, Web Pages.

I don't see this problem here.

I confirm this. It's very annoying, but I'm sure they will fix this after the easter holiday.

Good grief! The tiny things that people complain about. One more click of the mouse to be able to stop and start the video.

Tiny but nevertheless annoying, and for those who watch a lot of video it means a lot of additional clicks and yet another habit to take...
Don't like it much either, but I'd say pther things should be fixed first.

I'm sure they won't because if they do, they'll be sued by Eolas. If you had paid attention, you would have known that this happens because of a patent.

If you paid attention, you would have noticed that this problem wasn't present before the YouTube redesign and Opera wasn't sued by Eolas either. Let me add that this forum is of limited use because of mindless fanbois like you, cluttering many threads with useless answers.

I must be missing something here.....Not only do I not have to click any more than I previously did on Youtube, but I don't even notice the big changes to the site that everyone is talking about.

This probably means your particular YouTube server hasn't been updated yet - as far as I know they do major updates like this one progressively, not all servers at once.

I'm experiencing this problem as well. I can see the new YouTube as it is redesigned, but I'm annoyed by the 'Click to activate'.

I think that this isn't a problem of YouTube, because other browsers (MSIE 8 and Chrome 4.1) don't require the additional click.

Is there anybody with the latest stable version of Opera who haven't experienced the problem?

You probably missed the same as I did. The "click to activate this control" popup doesn't appear on all videos.

Affect of the Enolas Patent on Other Browsers

In June 2006, Opera Software released version 9 of its Opera browser for Windows and other operating systems, with modifications similar to Microsoft's.

Maybe you should know that lots of us who have been using Opera for years have indeed paid. It wasn't always free.

Personally, I prefer to click - saves a large d/l starting when I only want to save it.

It's even more useful in other sites where there's a spurious Flash banner that's of no use.

Now, if Opera 10.5* would just stop the d/l on YouTube when I leave the vid and go back...

Is anyone having issues with text in Flash elements as well. In the YouTube player the time played/remaining, plus the resolution listing/selector, are almost unreadable, blending in with the color of the player frame.
I'm having the same problem with some elements in Google Analytics, and yesterday I was trying to play a Flash game where I had a hard time believing the text on some pages were really supposed to be almost the same color as the background - and sure enough, trying it out in Chrome instead, the text was pure black rather than a varying mess of grays.

Hell, even the text on the Adobe's Flash version test page, which I decided to stop by while writing this, is bordering on unreadable. I'm running version 10.0.45.2 by the way - I'm going to see if there's a newer version (edit: nope, seems that's the latest release version).

That's because YouTube worked around it on their end. Clueless much?

I'm talking about the huge fees they will have to pay to Eolas for their patent.

It's a problem with a patent held by Eolas which Opera has no choice but to work around by requiring a click to activate because they can't pay the outrageously high fees of hundreds of millions of dollars or so which Microsoft had to pay.
