[10.52 b3344] Sometimes can't open downloaded files, can only save

Hi,
I have configured Opera to not use the Adobe Plugin for PDF files, but instead to download them. I then usually choose to "Open" then in the download dialog.

Here's my config:

Once in a while recently, when I click on a link to a PDF file, the dialog looks like this:

The "Open" button never gets activated, no matter how long I wait.

Only after canceling, waiting a while, and repeating the procedure, I get this as expected:

I sometimes need to repeat four times.

What gives?
Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks,
gibson

Same problem here.
Sometimes open is active, sometimes it's not.
Usually when it works the first time it does not the 2nd attempt.

In case Open is greyed out, its also impossible to interact with the window by keybard (ESC wont close the dialog, ENTER wont activate save, ...)

This also is not limited to PDF files. It happens with ANY type of file.

Still in 3363. I made a couple of screenshots a bit back, it also occasionally happens for other things besides the download dialog:

Certificate dialog:

This happens sometimes, not really sure why or how to reproduce. Observed most often with a non-standard port. It is possible to make the dialog go away by hitting the ESC button but the site will not load (equivalent to reject, I guess).

Insecure submission dialog:

1. go to https://www.vmware.com
2. in the search box on the upper left (also in the screenshot), enter 'vix'
3. hit search
4. the page turns grey and the dialog appears with enabled buttons. Click submit.
5. the dialog disappears and reappears again, with disabled buttons. It will not go away with buttons like enter/ESC. The page is still grey-ish.

Interesting thing about the last one: if you use the 'close tab' gesture with the dialog from step 5 open, the page will turn bright again and it is possible to navigate on it. If you repeat the steps, another dialog will appear on top of the old one.

Good point. I've seen that one as well. I hadn't connected those two in my mind yet.

Annoying.

Confirmed in 3366, identical to Gibson's report. Sometimes the open button is active, but usually it's greyed out. Sometimes reloading the page can re-activate it.

Did anyone report it?

Noticed something today: this seems to always happens when the page hasn't finished loading yet. Can anyone confirm this?

No.

Try a page with some download links in it and let it load completely before clicking anywhere else.
Usually then the first download link works just fine.
Then on the others you get that strange behavior.

Not how it happens for me.

I usually download one PDF from a page (eg manual or publication about something from the page on that thing). In affected builds, the page fully loads, I click the one pdf link (or right click + save linked content), and the download/open/save dialog appears with "open" greyed out as above.

Hm. Different here:

1. Let a page load completely
2. Click a link (pdf), the dialog shows up (Open/Save/Cancel working)
3. Click "cancel" or "save" or "open" (doesn't matter)
4. Click the same link again, dialog shows up broken

I've noticed this in 10.53 3374 (as well as previous versions) too.

I only recall trying to workaround it once - so I'm not sure if it's at all reliable - but hitting Esc on the greyed out dialog box and then hitting Enter again in the address bar with the .pdf will present a normal dialog box with working Open button.

Can anyone confirm if this workaround is any good the next time they encounter a greyed out Open button?

It got worse in 3386, now the save and cancel buttons on the download dialog are greyed out as well.

Did this bug by any chance occur when you opened something in background?

That is one of the ways to trigger it, yes. It also happens quite often when just clicking on the download link (which does not open in a new tab). So far it seems to go mostly ok on links which open in a new tab on left click.

I don't really know what you're aiming at with that remark but keep in mind that the thing on the vmware site still exists and the certificate thing probably too (I uninstalled vmware server because it managed to crash my server, so I don't have an SSL connection on a non-standard port with an untrusted certificate around anymore).

This is the workaround I've been using too.

Not necessarily, it just happened to me when trying to download a file from Megaupload in foreground.

I've only hit upon it now and then when opening things in background.

I tried a new installation and found out that it works perfectly.

So I did some testing (going through the .ini files leaving out customized settings).

What i found is:

The problem ONLY occurs (at least for me) if the progress bar is set to "pop up at buttom". Swithing to any other method seems to solve this bug.

I've had a separate progress bar since years, and i really want to keep it. So PLEASE, fix this bug!

Problem confirmed (Opera 10.43/WinXP/SP3) Last sloution can't be right - tried all different ways of placing progress bar - error still persists: "Remeber choice and ..." + Save greyed out, i.e. the latter not working with keyboard, but with mouse pointer - go figure

I can confirm the same problem. Reloading the address helps (Opera 10.53/Win7-x64).

Still here in 10.60 [3400]
I can reliably reproduce it on the Desktop team blog, when I click on the link to download 10.60 with the middle mouse key (as in "open in new background tab"). Happens every time. With the left mouse key everything works fine.

There seems to be improvement in [3409]. I can't say that it is fixed everywhere, but I found several examples where it used to beak and now works, and I haven't seen it break yet. Fingers crossed.

Seems to be fixed somewhat indeed. Still, the VMware search thing is funny. After you click 'submit', the dialog appears again, but with the buttons enabled. It actually shouldn't appear at all unless I'm missing something crucial. The page just loads as it should while the second dialog is being displayed and after clicking submit in it, nothing seems to happen.
