Opera 7.50 Preview 4 for Mac available
Ladies and gentlemen, you're witnessing history. With this release, Opera Software marks the first time in its history that updates for all our desktop platforms based on the same code have been released simultaneously.Opera 7.50 Preview 4 for Mac is available for download. As usual, discuss the new version in opera.mac and in the my.opera.com Opera for Mac forum. Please do not distribute the download link directly, but link to the post in opera.mac or in the my.opera.com Opera for Mac forum.

=== Major Changes ===
* Improved OS Integration *
We're working hard to improve Opera's integration with Mac OS X. In this release, you'll see better Addressbook and Keychain synchronization, improvements to the Mac Native skin, and initial support for OS X Services.
* Continued User Interface Experimentation*
In our efforts to improve the user interface, there have been a couple more changes in this preview. The Personal bar has been reenabled by default, the Start panel has been replaced by a Search panel, and maximized panels and manage dialogs have been dropped in favor of manage pages/windows. There's also a new "New page" button on the Page bar that makes it easy to open a new page.
*Improved Opera Mail Resource Usage *
Opera Mail (the mail client formerly known as M2) has received lots of attention this time around. It should use less memory, require less time to start-up, and clean-up after itself better.
* Optimized Performance *
In our on-going effort to be "The Fastest Browser on Earth," this release should start-up and exit faster. Doing routine user interface actions like toggling and resizing panels should also be faster.
A detailed list of changes is available at [url]http://snapshot.opera.com/mac/m750p4.html#detail.

[url]http://blog.wilsonet.com/index.php?p=275I am glad to see that Opera is making an effort to produce a great OS X browser, but the UI has a loooong way to go.

To give a short reasoning for why the UI hasn't been "Macified" to a greater extent in this release: Opera 6. As you all know, Opera 6 on Mac had many flaws, and one of the reasons for this is that we spent far too much time making Mac-specific solutions. Therefor we have decided to go with stability and using as much of the cross-platform code as possible in this release, while making as many "Macifications" as we have time for in the process. We can't guarantee that the final version of 7.5 will be a perfect Mac application when it comes to UI standards and such, but we will definitely continue to make adjustments making Opera by far the best browser on the Mac platform in the future.
Keep giving us suggestions for improvements, the best way for you to ensure that Opera becomes an even better browser is to tell us what we have to change.

Have a look at [url]http://www.opera.com/support/tutorials/opera/m2/sort/#filters for info on filtering messages.
Are others having problems with images for Back, Forward, etc.? Maybe you put the toolbar in "Text only" mode. Ctrl+Click/Right-click on the toolbar and go to Customize toolbars. Make sure "Style" is set to "Images only".

Also I have read the tutorial on filters and it says to click on an add button that does not exist as far as I can tell. All I can do is add rules to the spam filter, but I cannot make new filters.

Regarding filters: You can create new filters by right clicking on any existing view (unread, received, sent, ...). Filters are not used to "filter" inside the spam view. This is done by rules.
Filters are used to show only the mails you put into a certain context (e.g. eBay related, family, ...). Thus you can set up rules for each filter and by activating "Mark messages as filtered" prevent those mails from being shown in other views (like received).
If you want to use a button for filtering in the mail toolbar open the Customize toolbars dialog (right click on the toolbar where you want to add a button). Then go to "Buttons and Fields" and switch to the category Mail. There you find a button called "Show in" with a small down arrow. Drag this button to the toolbar and close the dialog (do not click cancel, otherwise the button will disappear again).
Now when you read a mail you can click on "Show in" and decide where this mail is to be shown. You can create a new filter containing this mail with the first entry of the dropdown.

Right-clicking them where? If I am in a view, say "Unread", the only place "Unread" appears is in the upper left corner. Right-clicking there does nothing. The Mail -> Filters... windows does not look like the one in the tutorial. The only listed filter there is "Spam" so I cannot right-click "Unread" there either. Nothing happens when I right-click "Spam" in this window.
I have made a screenshot of the Filters window. As I said before, the only thing I can do in this window is add rules to "Spam." Please see [url]http://www.alteredsky.net/images/filter-screen.png for what I am actually seeing. The tutorial says, "Choose 'Add filter' to make a new filter or "Remove filter" to remove the currently selected filter." As you can see, there is no such button on the window I get. Therefore, the tutorial is not helpful to me.
>> Thus you can set up rules for each filter and by activating "Mark messages as filtered" <<
I do not know where one goes to activate this. It is not mentioned in the tutorial, and it is not obvious from the user interface. I clicked on "View" and "Label" as well as "Unread" in the upper left corner. Nothing in these menus says anything like that.
>> If you want to use a button for filtering in the mail toolbar open the Customize toolbars dialog (right click on the toolbar where you want to add a button). <<
When I am on the mail tab in Opera, the only toolbar I see is the bookmarks tool bar. (See above screenshot.) It will not allow me to add things like "Show In" on this toolbar. The bar in the mail view (with "Reply", "Forward", etc.) is apparently not customizable. I get no menu when I right-click it, and if I right-click on the bookmark bar and select "Customize toolbars" I cannot then click on the mail bar to customize it. That is where I would want to put "Show In", but it does not allow me to do that.
I do not mean to sound like I am complaining too much, but I am trying to explain clearly what my problem is and why it is not yet resolved. I do love Opera and Opera Mail, and I think you guys are doing a great job. Thanks for your attempts so far.

I do not leave the panels open normally, so I think it would be nice to have the "new filter" option in the mail menu or in the Filters window also. This works for now though. Thank you very much!

You should be able to e. g. right click on the Spam button and then customize this toolbar. And you should be able to drag buttons to this bar no matter from which toolbar you had opened the Customize toolbars dialog. As long as this dialog is open you can drag buttons to all visible toolbars.
