Extremely disappointed with 10.51

Hi. This is my first post, although I've been a loyal Opera user since the late 90's. I began using it right before the version that was ad-supported, remember that? version 3 or so?

Anyway, I am extremely disappointed with the behaviour of Opera 10.51, because for me it breaks in the most elementary of ways: It doesn't load web pages properly, or it doesn't finish loading them. Breaks whole domains.

This is a little hard to explain, but basically some webpages hang before fully loading, like this image shows:

You can see how it says "Elements: 78/78" but it never finishes loading the page for some reason. It's stuck, I can't do anything in it. If I try reloading it, it gets stuck at the same place, or sometimes in different elements. This happens in many pages, gmail, other forums, digg, random pages like "askmen.com", etc.

This "never finishes loading" screws up the whole domain, not just that particular page. So if I get that problem, closing the tab, and opening a new tab and entering the address manually doesn't help.

This does not seem to have any rhyme nor reason to it. Sometimes websites that use cookies are affected, but other times simply a page that you visit the first time is affected (This one for instance: http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/04/iron-man-2-poster-shines-the-spotlight-on-the-black-widow-.html I clicked it from Digg and it never loaded. It's still hung on element 14/15 and shows nothing but the logo of the site).

Anyway, if anyone has any solutions for this, please let me know. This is the FIRST time in a decade that I've given up on Opera because it's un-usable. I only post because I care about it, but unfortunately I'm moving to Firefox until this is resolved. Which, trust me, it's horrible for me, I'm too used to Opera.

Right now I tried to use Google to search and it doesn't load, sigh. This is ridiculous, help.

I agree, I've been using Opera since 7.0 amazed me with new features and speed. All new versions have improved compatibility, speed and got nice new features; but 10.51 is giving me a LOT of compatibility issue's that make using Opera hard. I'm to mutch of an Opera fan to leave it all behind, but i seriously wanne downgrade back to 10.50 (that was great).

Try a clean install of Opera 10.51. Sounds kinda unlikely that Opera 10.50 could be better than Opera 10.51. 10.51 is the Version with more bugs fixed than 10.50 and no features added, which could relate to new bugs.

many of us have also been having these and other problems with Opera (me since v9.5)
its puzzling that a great browser like Opera can't seem to solve issues that other lesser browsers don't have
but no other browser comes close to what Opera provides - ie. features, speed, customization (menus; key shortcuts, etc.)
sure, there's been a lot of improvements in different areas, but still much left to do (ie. page-rendering)
so I just wait & hope that a great version will be released at some point in the future (soon?) with these issues resolved
sad

I have noticed this too. It's not often I encounter sites that won't load at all, but I it's not so uncommon that I find sites that is surprisingly slow at loading. It's fucking annoying to say at least. Wouldn't it be awesome if Opera could get better at loading\rendering sites? Chrome is pretty good at this (you click a link, and the sit just appears in the blink of an eye), and I really hope Opera can improve at this area.

Yes, I remember that. My friends thought I was nuts for using it.

I agree that this is a very annoying problem, but hitting the stop button is much easier than trying to use a browser I don't like.

Great another loyal opera user who has one forum post.

I have suggestion for you: how about cleaning up your tabs.....there is not way your brain can process all those tabs..

if site don't load try masking it as firefox or IE...via F12>edit site preference>network>mask as firefox/ie

"mask as firefox" seems to be working in some sites... it's a nice workaround, but still a bit annoying. Glad i can keep using my favorite browser this way, and i'm sure the OperaTeam will fix the issue's ive ran in to.

You are all very right about version 10.51 being "rushed" out the door in responce to Microsoft being forced to have a browser "ballot screen" for Europeon Windows so that it doesn't just default to IE8. With all new Windows computers sold in Europe giving the user a choice for their default browser that means that more people are trying out Opera which is very good for all diehard Opera fans. Unfortunately, Opera's efforts to be the "fastest browser on Earth" by using the GPU to process more of the graphics elements (Flash, java, etc.) has made for a very flawed version 10.50 and 10.51. I have finally thrown in the towel, un-installed my 10.51, and gone back to 10.10 to get a better working Opera. The first thing I did was press F5 to get my Speed Dial thumbnails back. Of all the glitches and flaws I've been putting up with I was dumbfounded to find that I couldn't refresh my Speed Dial, the thunbnails either came up wrong or never completed at all, no matter how many times I tried to update. I even updated my ATI Catalyst driver to the new 10.3 last week to see if there was a problem that it might fix but that didn't make any difference. That's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg of problems Opera 10.51 has so for now I'm staying with 10.10 until the programmers fix all the flaws.

Yes I have been having these exact same problems with Opera 10.51... so much so I just downloaded chrome. I love opera though - tabs on the side! why this isn't an option on every browser is beyond me..

Opera shouldn't start having problems just because there are 20-odd tabs open, or even if there are 10x that many. One thing I've always liked about Opera is that I don't have to worry about how many tabs I have open, over 50 is normal for me.

I've noticed some sites that refuse to finish loading myself. It's inconsistent, with sites loading correctly one time I try and not loading fully the next.

I wonder if it has something to do with IPv6 support.

Me too, Opera 10.51 is simply unusable.... On WinXP, the context menu (right mouse click on a hyperlink) simply doesn't work at all, that problem was already in Opera 10.50 and nothing has been done about it... Besides I couldn't find my bookmarks anymore etc. - I really hate when some designer decides to mess whole menues up, and then you need lots of time and patience to get more or less the old configuration back (like a famouse office product, each new version is worse than the older one): it should be the other way around, new "features" should be deactivated by default...
So back to Opera 10.10 !!!

Right,

the 10.51 screwed up my laptop PC so much,( se picture) that I had to uninstall it. That again removed all favorites and mails stored from the previous 10.10 version, which worked fine on the laptop, and still works fine on my other 3 stationary PC's

It is not a matter of how many tabs, but which ones. A single tab can freeze Opera, the Iron Man Link posted by the OP loads rather slowly, but it does not freeze.

Press Alt, then B for bookmarks. Is it really that hard to find the bookmarks?
