Tabs opening automatically.
This is driving me nuts. For example, if reading a newspaper multiple tabs for stories of no interest will repeatedly open. I have no idea if this is the site or the browser but imagine there must be some tool to turn it off (like a pop up blocker). It's not just one site but all the main reputable papers in Australia. On a similar note, I have disabled sound and animated images in web pages but videos embedded in news articles still play automatically and jam my poor connection.
This are both particular problems with www.theage.com.au
Any advice appreciated. I have looked everywhere but I'm not too good at this stuff.
Thanks.
You can disable all plugins on the F12 "Quick Preferences" menu, that should stop videos. Alternatively try using Turbo mode (though I've seen one post about having troubles with that in 10.51, so it might not work for you).
Opera has a popup blocker, though it should be enabled by default - but that's also on Quick Preferences so you can see which setting is selected for yourself. (Default should be "Block Unwanted Pop-ups", and I didn't get any while I was at that site.)

F12 - at the top of the menu are the pop-up options. Your best bet is probably "Block unwanted pop-ups" - this means that popups caused by you clicking on a link (eg opening a help panel on a website) will still work, but (most) advertising ones won't.
A lot of websites are using Flash to embed audio and video on the page, and this is not affected by disallowing audio and video, because it is a different format. If you press F12 and un-tick "Enable plug-ins" then Flash will not run - but you might find this more of a nuisance as lots of websites use Flash in more benign ways!
If there are some sites in particular that have irritating Flash videos, go to those sites, right-click somewhere, choose "Block content", and click on the videos that you want to block. Any other media streams from the same server will also be blocked.
